Strategy to mitigate the AnxietyYou've got this! Persistence and consistency are key! | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/07/24 08:58 PM
Strategy to mitigate the AnxietyYou get motivation by realizing the best time to start working out was yesterday. The next best time is today. I was never big into working out before being blindsided about 6 months ago. I was in a bad bad place for a while and now in the gym 3 times a week and each and every time I feel so much better after my session. Remembering that feeling is what motivates me for next time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/07/24 05:56 PM
One and a half year marriage ended abruptlyI am about 5 months out from a complete blindside. Hindsight is 20/20 and I probably should have seen some signs but I didn't. I have taken count of what I did in the relationship that should have been improved upon no doubt but I never expected anything was bad enough to elicit a divorce. I loved her with all my heart and that wasn't enough and that's ok. Try to stay amicable if you are able. I was able to in my divorce and that helped limit expenses and more emotional turmoil tenfold. You are … | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/06/24 02:51 AM
Wife (F30) leaves me (M30) 6 months after marriage, where do you start?I am really sorry you're going through this! There are a lot of parallels to your story and mine. We were together for 13 years, married for 10. I was like you and was 1000% confident that she was who I would get old and die with. I got blindsided and had to beg for any reason. I got the same communication, tired of not focusing on herself, arguments from 8, 9, and 10 years ago. This was all news to me. You will drive yourself crazy trying to analyze every little situation. I am 6 months out and… | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/06/24 11:41 PM
Its never enough. We got another one over here boys! In all seriousness though, I am continually amazed at these similar stories. We were together for 13 years and married for over ten. Some ups and downs but divorce was not even an inkling of thought in my mind. In one of the final arguments she even brought up something that had happened almost a decade earlier that I had completely forgotten about because I thought we both had resolved the issue and agreed to work on the things presented. Apparently that was f… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/05/24 12:06 PM
Emotionally StuckYou are completely correct and I think that is what happened. There were some signs but no big event that I can point to that says this was it. Perhaps it was death by a thousand cuts but that was never communicated to me. Regardless, I can only control my reactions and response to the hand I've been dealt and I'm working on doing just that. Thank you for your insight! | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/05/24 03:26 PM
Waves of sadnessWelcome to the club you never wanted to be a part of. You are super early in the process and it's going to continue to be extremely rough, but will slowly get better with time. This too shall pass. I was blindsided in January of this year and exactly in the same spot as you. I had to take a couple weeks off of work because I literally couldn't focus and sobbed more in those two weeks than in the past 30+ years. Do not feel bad about crying, feeling your emotions, grieving, etc. It is all part of… | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/05/24 03:21 PM
Emotionally StuckAre you me? Very similar feelings and circumstances minus the children. I've been separated since January but continually get waves of "wait, how did I end up here?". I've done the ruminating, self blame, blaming her, etc. At the end of the day we can only be responsible for ourselves and we will never know exactly how things all went wrong. I so desperately want a solid, exact reason for things ending but I know that's not how this works and I'm never going to get that. We were together for 13 … | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/05/24 07:23 PM
Took Her Less Than Two Months To Find Another ManWow that is rough. I think you would be crazy if you weren't upset about that! One consistent thing I've noticed about my story and a lot of others on this sub including yours is our absolute loyalty. This makes the cognitive dissonance of placing those values on someone else very difficult to deal with. We never expected the one person we put absolute trust in to betray us because we would never do that to them. Practicing and understanding some concepts about stoicism is very helpful and while… | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/05/24 09:56 PM
Ex is saying she’s depressedYea I would say time to cut any contact except for dealing with your child. Sounds like she is still wanting to get some sort of emotional value out of you while not giving any back herself. She has already proven to you how she feels about you. Focus on you and your child. Not having to deal with that will allow you to push forward and make quicker strides. | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/04/24 02:17 PM
Exhausted working on myselfI totally get where you're coming from. I'm a few months into the process and I have days where I feel like I'm doing great and I'm checking all the boxes and then there are days or a week where I'm just not. I may miss a day at the gym or just lay on the couch after work. Not pushing forward every day doesn't negate the progress you've made and will make. Take the time to be sad. Feel those emotions but don't let them fester too long. It's important that you get back to improvement but it doesn… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/04/24 12:35 PM
Divorce has left me wanting to dieHey man, I get this mindset completely. I have very similar hopeless thoughts. I do not have any kids and so the pain of knowing you have to stay attached for the future has to be extremely tough. With that said, we don't have another choice except to stand up, brush ourselves off, and push forward. I've spent plenty of days in bed crying and thinking how could this happen to me? How could she do this to me? The self doubt and blame comes in waves and thinking about her moving on is torture. How… | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/04/24 04:10 PM
Ex moving in with new boyfriendThat's rough. I am dreading the day when I find out my ex does something similar. The ruminating and thinking about it are not productive though as I'm sure you know. I think a very valuable lesson we get taught through this whole thing is that we can't control anything in this life other than our actions and reactions. As soon as you feel yourself spiraling, take a moment to center yourself, embrace the emotions and then let them go because there isn't anything you can actively do about it. Try… | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/04/24 09:43 PM
| -1 | God and DivorceI don't believe God necessarily "puts" us through anything. That is the tricky part of free will. Our actions have consequences and we can't control others. I believe He knows all these outcomes and what is going to happen and desires us to grow from them regardless. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/03/24 12:03 PM |
God and DivorceGoing through the process myself. My wife was even a worship leader for many years until she left the church. My faith has never been tested this hard before. I believe God desires reconciliation above all else. We are also told that if an unbeliever is walking away from that covenant then we are not bound to the marriage anymore. Perhaps this is the feeling God is putting on you? I have told my wife repeatedly that I would remain faithful as her husband until the papers are signed as I feel tha… | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/03/24 01:30 AM
What's the first step? I don't have anyone to askHey man, first off I want you to take a minute and breathe. Focus on today only. What are some measureable things you can do to improve your situation at all, even the tiniest bit? Could you call a family member or friend? Start that slow process of rebuilding those relationships. Reaching out to people shows initiative and it's greatly appreciated. Can you ask your wife to explain the finances? Is there any possibility for you guys to be amicable if you are both not happy? You mentioned having … | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/03/24 02:25 AM
Just Like That, 26 Years.First off, take a moment and pat yourself on the back for sticking it out that long and willing to continue sticking it out. Us men take our word and our vows extremely seriously. This alone makes what some women do unfathomable. I am in the process and only have about half the time married as you so I can't even imagine. It is the toughest thing I've ever had to do. I focused on providing and making sure she wanted for nothing and also worked on being better emotionally when she mentioned she n… | /r/Divorce_Men | 20/03/24 02:17 AM
Struggling 3.5 months in.Agree 100% on the world view changing. This experience has challenged my beliefs more than anything in my life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/03/24 01:57 AM
Struggling 3.5 months in.My heart breaks reading this story. It is very similar to many others on here and my own. I have been ruminating so hard over the last couple of months trying to rationalize throwing away over a decade of our lives because she just feels like it and doesn't want to work on it. That's just the difference between men and women I suppose. The hardest part is accepting that you are completely unable to have something you desperately want. I am a little behind you in my journey but hope there is some… | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/03/24 04:57 PM
Why…….Yup, read about this OP. Helped me understand my feelings. Feels like going through withdrawal from hard drugs. | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/24 11:12 PM
Why…….Similar situation here. Thought everything was going pretty damn good and then one day after bringing her dinner she looked in the face and said she was leaving. Left me in our living room on my knees begging her and barely shed a tear. This was after 13 years of being together and not really any discussion of divorce previously. I've gotten some minimal explanation about how she fought for our marriage alone for years without me apparently doing anything. This makes you feel like you are going … | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/24 11:08 PM
Mentel state has gone to shitHey man I'm feeling the same way. I'm about a month and half out and was doing better until this week. I'm typing this from my parents house as well. It has been such a roller coaster and I so desperately just want to stop ruminating and try to move on with things. Adjusting to this new routine has been terrible and I constantly have a pit in my stomach. Try to focus on each day and that's it, that has been helping me a little bit. Thinking about you brother. Keep fighting. | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/03/24 11:08 AM

Going through divorce loosing my kids and wife just need some to talk toHey man, first off I just wanted to say welcome. You are among friends here and this is a safe place. Feel free to post as much as you want to vent, get ideas, etc. It is the darkest just before dawn. You're going through it right now and it all looks bleak. Try to focus on what you can control and only worry about today. Sleeping in your car is going to suck, but at least it's better than outside. If you have the funds and are near a gym maybe try getting a membership so you can at least get a … | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/02/24 02:54 AM
Really lowHey man, you've got one friend at least and he's typing you this comment right now. This whole process sucks. Plain and simple. I'm about a month in and a roller coaster is the perfect way to describe it. I'll have good days and then days where I just stare at the wall in disbelief. Everyone's healing process is different so don't feel bad about what you are going through at all. Cry to this sub all you want, that's what it's here for. We don't have a lot of outlets and safe havens as men, but t… | /r/Divorce_Men | 27/02/24 02:12 AM
Word of encouragementI'm about a month into separation. Toughest thing I've ever had to go through by a longshot. Understand that it is normal and ok to have these feelings. We have all mourned the loss of what we once had. I also struggle hard with thinking one day she is just going to wake up and it will all be different but I know that's not going to happen. Focus on yourself and your child. Turn the negative energy and pain into something more positive. Motivation for the gym, hobbies, etc. Thinking about you br… | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/02/24 10:20 PM
Kill myselfHey man, all the things you are feeling are normal. Do not let anyone invalidate those feelings. I am much fresher into this experience and it hurts like hell and I was married about half the length of time you were. An important lesson I'm still learning is that my ex is not the same person anymore. I loved her when she was that person I spent 10 years with but that's just not the case anymore. These people are not our whole lives even though we pour everything into them. It is insanely hard to… | /r/Divorce_Men | 22/02/24 11:49 PM
Starting overMarried for over 10 years and my ex blindsided me with the divorce. I would have never guessed it was coming. I am 33 and have had all the same thoughts you have. I've been doing a lot of soul searching and reflection these last few weeks. With the support of this community and using the recommendations provided here, it does get a little easier each day. You have a life ahead, whether that's 1 year or 50 years. We have both seen that we can't control or worry too much about the future because i… | /r/Divorce_Men | 14/02/24 02:35 AM
SupportI get it brother. I was a worrier before this whole thing happened and now I have to consciously stop myself from having a panic attack about everything. Each day gets a little better and only focus on what needs done then. As we have seen worrying about the future isn't worth it because it turns out vastly different than we expected. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/02/24 01:35 AM
She's not stupid. She's not powerless. She's evil.I feel this tonight hard. I keep sitting here in disbelief that the whole thing happened. All the morals, vows, ideals that I thought she held dear were ripped away in an instant. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/02/24 01:09 AM
SupportThis forum has been a great support for me personally. Try searching through and reading various posts to help you gain some better insights into all of the challenges and ways to deal with this situation. All of our stories are different but share a common theme and the steps to recovery are general enough to help you through it. I started by being very mindful of what had happened, listening to audio books, and taking it one day at a time. You are not alone in this and you will persevere. | 5 | 7 month separationHey man, I'm pretty fresh into the process myself and I've had a roller coaster of emotions. I totally understand the longing for wanting someone else to share your day with. I think it is helpful if possible to move that to a friend or close family member if possible. Is it the same? Absolutely not, but it does help. Another option is to start journaling. Write down things about your day, thoughts you had, and feelings that occurred. Do this each day and then go back and see how your feelings a… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/02/24 02:00 AM
Todays been a bad dayI know the feelings man. One day I think everything is feeling pretty good and then bam, I'm hit with a wave of anxiety and dread. Congrats on the interview and the other job. At least you have something solid to look forward to. Focus on that victory and move to the next. These small wins really help if you are mindful of them. You'll get things back in order, and remember there are lots of men here going through similar things and are here to support you. | 4 | How do you get a sense of worth back? This is an extremely difficult time. One of the hardest challenges you will ever face in your life. I am also fresh into the process and have asked myself very similar questions that you have. I loved this woman unconditionally and was planning on being there until the end but she had other plans. It is important to take note of the things you did to attribute to the marriage ending. Self reflection is a powerful tool for moving forward and will help you going forward. | 4 | Why aren’t we even given a chance?I'm early in the process as well man. There was nothing more that I wanted in the world than to be a faithful provider to my spouse of 10 years. I had no idea how close to the edge she was and that was that. Focus on yourself and start doing some things to take care of you. I'm sure you've read the suggestions here but they do actually help. You don't have to believe the macho man stuff, but being kind to yourself and realizing that there are things in life we simply can't control is very import… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 11:56 PM
Broken and confusedPlease do if you find it, I am taking any sources of support or items I can use to help this process that I can! I have had several friends from our mutual group reach out to me and be extremely supportive which has been very nice. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 03:21 AM
She filed today I’m lostTake a deep breath and splash some cold water on your face. Pick out a few sights, sounds, and smells you can identify in your environment to ground yourself. This is going to be possibly the hardest thing you've ever had to do in your life. I am also very fresh into the process and never dreamed I would be having to figure life out again. I did not have any children so I cannot imagine that extra pain, but I'm sure they will appreciate utter honesty. Tell them the things that caused this and al… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 03:16 AM
Broken and confusedThank you for the suggestions - I will take a look at that book. I agree the best part will be using this experience to my advantage in the future. I have no choice in the matter so I have to use it positively and productively however possible. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 03:07 AM
Broken and confusedThank you so much and you guys are right. We are both going to come out of this as different people. I have to make sure I come out of it as a better man. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 03:03 AM
Broken and confusedThank you for the excellent advice. I am going to attempt to stay with family for a while so I can break my old routine completely. This will require a longer commute for me to work but I think that will be good as well. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 03:01 AM
Broken and confusedI will not be reaching out to her with those types of questions any longer. I have told her several times I am here to talk and asked her how she's been because I still do care about her despite what she did and she completely ghosted me. Further communication will just have to be about the logistics of the divorce and that hurts so much because she was my best friend. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 11:18 PM
Broken and confusedBetter communication mostly. I am the type of person who needs time to process my emotions and provide an articulate response of how I'm feeling. She was very much the get it resolved immediately type of person. This weekly check in was my solution after taking a serious look at how I communicate to try and provide better updates to her and not dwell on things too long. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 11:05 PM
Broken and confusedThank you for the kind words. This community has helped immensely in my early journey. It does hurt like hell but I'm determined to come out of this stronger even if it is the last thing I ever wanted to do. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:55 PM
Broken and confusedGod bless you as well brother. Life will chew you up and spit you out. We have to focus on the good parts and keep pushing like you said. Keeping the negative thoughts from consuming is a monumental task, but if we can leave this world in any small way better despite the terrible hands we were dealt then I believe that is a life truly well lived. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:53 PM
Broken and confusedPets are a huge plus for sure, basket cases or not haha. A dog really will love you unconditionally and there is something to be said for that. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:49 PM
Broken and confusedOur walks and experiences are all different and you have to be true to yourself and protect yourself at the end of the day, no matter how that looks. Pouring love into your children is an excellent outlet and they will be more thankful for it than you will ever know. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:46 PM
Broken and confusedI'm trying man. I have been taking the dog on long walks in the woods and making sure I express feelings via various outlets. Just taking it one day at a time. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:44 PM
Broken and confusedI am working hard to not let it ruin my view of people in general. I know there are plenty of good people in this world but it is scary to think how different someone can become in an instant without you seeing the signs beforehand. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:33 PM
Broken and confusedThere was the large argument I referenced in my original post and looking back now that was probably the final nail. I knew it was a serious argument which is why I initiated the steps to not let it happen again. I fully trusted this woman and I sincerely hope I can do that again in the future because it really is a beautiful thing when it is good and both sides are on the same page. I will be changed by this experience and be much more protective of me though which will require much more work f… | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:31 PM
Broken and confusedYou are right. My love and commitment to her was absolute though and I expected the same from my partner. I was certainly blinded by that value and that will be one of the hardest things to understand and rationalize. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:24 PM
Broken and confusedHindsight is 20/20 as they say and there are things that probably were signs, but they weren't anything I realized in the moment. I was 100% committed to this woman until death. Short of cheating/infidelity divorce was never a thought or option for me. I thought we could work through any issues and in turn be stronger together. So we're there signs? Most likely. However, I was not able to recognize them due to my personal commitment/values and my apparently flawed view of who I saw her as. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 10:21 PM
Broken and confusedIt's rough for sure. Your story sounds awful as well with that stringing along. I truly hope I can be in your position someday. I think I have a good plan to work on myself and focus on me for a while. I just need to work hard at not ruminating in the bad thoughts and worrying about things I have absolutely no control over. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 09:24 PM
Broken and confusedWow that is an extremely similar story. Thank you for posting this. It is by far the most pain and hurt I've ever felt. My biggest issue is letting go of the "we" like you mentioned. I am so mourning my daily routine and comfort that was ripped away in an instant. I am thankful for a good support group of friends and family that I've told I will be leaning on heavily for support. | 3 | First Divorce. Advice? You made a good move posting here. There are a lot of stories and methods of coping that have been very helpful to my very early journey. Know that you are not truly alone in this and all of us here have had similar feelings and emotions. Our stories may be different but the hurt and pain are universal. I would advise getting outside, seeing friends, doing a hobby you enjoy and exercising. Don't feel bad about not knowing how to process your emotions. | 3 | Broken and confusedI have been able to surround myself with family this last week and that has helped a lot. Haven't sobbed into my mother's arms like that in many many years. Therapy is scheduled and I'm looking forward to that. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 08:52 PM
Broken and confusedOh I've cried more in the last few days than I have in my entire life. I am working on framing things in a more positive light and realize there will be good days and bad days. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 08:51 PM
Broken and confusedThese are very valid points and yea the email really threw me for a loop. She listed our pets who I had assumed we both always treated as our children as line items on a list. She is being amicable about how to proceed with splitting things and I have agreed to them, but I am under no delusion that it can't turn ugly very quickly | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 08:07 PM
Broken and confusedThat is incredibly rough. You would think getting through those rough patches would make you both stronger together but it seems some women hold on to everything and pile up all the hurts like points on a scorecard and one day we finally hit the magic number. Thank you for sharing your story. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 08:04 PM
Broken and confusedI'm sorry you are having to go through this as well. I am thankful we had no children (I can't even imagine that emotional trauma on top of everything). I am starting to have the same feelings as you with accepting it and being happy with the effort I put in. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:39 PM
Broken and confusedYea she has had this planned for a while with how quick she did it. It makes it harder being so oblivious because had you asked me a day before it happened if we would be together forever I would have said yes without a doubt. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:38 PM
Broken and confusedThose are excellent points. This was my fairytale and I was 1000% sure it was hers as well. I'm trying hard to focus on myself and use this experience to grow even if it hurts like hell. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:36 PM
Broken and confusedIt is so strange how it happened so quick and with me apparently being so oblivious. The mental gymnastics I've tried to do to make sense of it just don't add up. I have to accept that there's no logical answer and just accept it for what it is. One of the hardest things in life is thinking you know someone so completely and then they turn out to be nothing like this vision you had. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:33 PM
Broken and confusedThis has absolutely been the hardest thing I've ever had to do in my life. I have used a lot of the suggestions in this sub already and will continue to do so. There has been no begging after the first night trying to try for some reconciliation. Her entire tone is different and cold. I know she's not the same girl I fell in love with over a decade ago. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:31 PM
Broken and confusedReally appreciate the message and support. That Star Trek quote is fantastic. There have been nights I've gone to sleep thinking how lucky I was to be so lucky with the life I had and was excited to grow old with this person. That plan has been thrown out of the window now, but a new plan will be formed. I'm never going to pretend I was a perfect husband but I truly thought we resolved our argument and moved forward together. | 2 | Broken and confusedThank you for the message. I have a solid support group with my family and talking with some mutual friends about what happened has given me some validation as they were completely floored and didn't think in a thousand years this would have happened. It feels weird and liberating at the same time to be able to focus on myself more. I just needed to focus that energy effectively and push forward. | /r/Divorce_Men | 30/01/24 07:23 PM
| 5 | Broken and confusedThank you, I tried to send a long email the night it happened in hopes of a reconciliation but she didn't even respond to it. I have since then just been polite and responded to her document about splitting assets. I've told her I accept and respect her decision. I am fairly confident there wasn't an affair and she has said as much when I asked explicitly but with the way she acted I have no way of knowing what the truth is.
