My husband and I both had pretty high n-count when we met. It never once bothered him or me. We just clicked immediately, and got married within a year. Married for two, now.

Feels true. I don’t like it. 😔

My best guess is that I’m not really playing the field as widely as I should. I tried the Surrendered Single approach of going on dates with anyone and everyone, but I got burnt out on it pretty quickly. It’s tiring to meet new people and have similar conversations over and over and disheartening to continually just .. not be interested in or compatible with so many people. The last guy was.. idk. I’m not sure what went awry. He’s had a 7year LTR before, so I thought that was indicative of an op…

Oh. This makes sense. Thank you for the analysis here, you really made this issue seem way less complex/confusing. I feel a little ridiculous for not reaching this conclusion myself.

Thank you for sharing your story! This is both the answer I wanted and am afraid of. Dating is exhausting, why can’t perfect men just fall in our laps? 😝 I, like many women, am very good at desiring the wrong men, almost as if their desire for bachelorhood is a turn-on.. it’s not great!

I love this idea, that even women who swear like sailors and aren’t particularly “ladylike” can still be very feminine. I think a lot about my mother and grandmother - neither are particularly “soft” in their approach to life. Granmama loved her bourbon and had quite mouth on her, but she also had this artistry to everything she did, a presence in any room, a way of talking that made you feel like you were very intimate with her no matter who you were.. and then my mama, who is scary smart, a hi…

I can’t recommend Marshall Rosenburg’s book Nonviolent Communication enough. It is great for not only learning to express oneself better and mediate, but also can help one to really logically sort out emotions inside of oneself. I think a lot of what you’re describing is a miscommunication or failure to communicate, so it seems like trying to open up those pathways might be a good step.

A mani-pedi. A massage. A trip to the bathhouse/sauna time. Brunch with my girl-friends. Reading something other than self-improvement books - maybe a silly romance novel!

I feel all shy and flutter-hearted around him, it’s really hard to just be a friend. I get all tongue tied and stupid. 😭

I get your meaning.. I just really don’t want to think of myself as a bootycall, I guess is the real reason for protest. It feels bad.

I work in a high end restaurant, everyone smokes and drinks - it’s just kinda the culture.

So, I ended up talking with him today. He basically told me that he got burned really bad by his 7-year relationship that ended earlier this year, and he doesn’t feel ready to be vulnerable again. I said that I was sorry he got hurt, but that I am looking for something more. He didn’t really say anything to that, just kinda nodded, and then the conversation got interrupted. It still feels unresolved but I think I got my point across so the ball is in his court.

We haven’t gone “out” on a date, but we don’t have sex every time I go over to his house.

Yeah that’s really the worry here, I like him a lot and am feeling stuck on him. I tried to test the water maybe a little too forwardly, but I asked him if it was normal for people to get feelings after seeing each other for a few months, and his answer was “It wouldn’t stop me from seeing you if you’re trying to say you’re catching feelings,” which was such a great non-answer .. I feel like I’m going crazy a little.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
