Well, you knew this one was going to rattle the hornet's nest--but I agree with OP. There are many good points here, in opposition, but IMO there is something fundamentally unserious about video gaming, something that doesn't apply to chess, gardening and so on.

Yeah, I could tell that was the point you wanted addressed. Good on you to keep pushing for exactly that on the sub. People have an astonishing ability to miss the central point that's being discussed, and/or an inability to stay focused on it. (One of my pet peeves lately.) That's why I responded. Hi, I have always done that too--look at and away while speaking, strong eye contact while listening. I am a good listener, so I think that accounts for the latter. I have come up with the same two theories for the former: 1) Looking away while speaking allows me to concentrate on what I'm saying, and marshal/organize my thoughts. 2) Lack of confidence. I do it with both men and women, so I tend to think it's 1), but I wonder if women think it's 2).
