Case study: Samuel L. Jackson. Never been in any kind of trouble with the law, well spoken, very successful. He had a very good family that taught him right from wrong, went to school, and has a good set of values where he respects people even if he's "above" them. Of course not everybody is going to be as successful as a world famous actor, but even with a few basics the average black dude would be much better off. If you don't care about family, your parents never gave a fuck about you, and yo…

Yes, but it will never be the same as your male friends and don't expect to break the sex barrier. Women's friendships with men are based on a series of variables that are subject to change, things like how much attention they get, what you do for them, etc. My best friend in college was a woman, but she was far from my "best" friend. We basically teamed up and creamed all the group projects, had lunch together, etc. As soon as college ended we went our separate ways. In essence, the variables s…

In a democracy, every voice is supposed to have value and influence decisions. The fact that people try to infiltrate and pull dumbass influence ploys makes that system a bad idea, at least for the leadership, because it means all the losers that take the website too seriously will want to get in on the action. I don't think anybody wants Miss John Snippedcock having a say in TRP's direction. I don't think I've ever seen a questionable case of modding here, which is remarkable given the size of …

It should be noted that this is only possible because Kathleen Wynne, the Premier of Ontario (think State Governor for you Americans), now has a majority government in the provincial legislature. The Liberal Party was able to push this through because other parties do not have enough seats to overturn their decisions. In essence it's a dictatorship unless the politicians vote against their own party (hint: they never do). She also never mentioned this overhaul of the education system during the …

I've reported on this in the past in Ontario. The groups involved are heavily entrenched and run a business of sorts. Basically they rely on studies and reports to make their living doing security and policy consults, talks and presentations, and various other work with a variety of public and private sector organizations. Contractors make a killing installing security devices, and somebody without technical skills can make their money doing talks and conferences if they market themselves well (…

Does anyone have any insight into the actual business model they're operating on? Money in the writing business, at least in internet content creation goes like this. Profit = number of clicks + subscriptions / effort invested The higher the number of clicks or people subscribing, the more money you get. Investing in higher quality posts is a risk, because while a huge number of people might access your work you could have done two or three works of lesser quality and made more money. Would you …

I have words, but still cannot express the discomfort I feel at having read that. I would like to take my click back and have that unread from my mind. How dare you violate my mind space like that Could it be you're... triggered?

A skit on Chappelle’s Show once centred on Dave Chappelle about to spend the night with a lady friend. Before things get out of hand, he turns over and produces a stack of papers instead of a condom: the Love Contract. He insists this woman must agree to the terms and conditions of their up-and-coming encounter and sign her name here, here and here. I never thought I’d live to see the day where comedy and parody would become reality.

There's a weird disconnect in the realm of the media. Not many readers actually want to see Hulk Hogan suplexing the pussy, but the reptiles from certain media sources will staunchly defend their right to host that... material. But as soon as material that readers want to see shows up, stop the fucking presses. It's misogyny, criminal, horrific and shameful. It's just plain strange to me that that's how this works.

If the woman was equally drunk and she was judged to be incapacitated to the point of not being able to make a proper decision, doesn't that also mean she is equally guilty of raping this man as he is of raping her (according to the "verdict")? If they raped each other, does that mean both of them should go to jail or should they just shake their heads and admit this was probably a bad idea, say they both made a mistake and get on with their lives?

Old traditions usually have some of these little tidbits in them that go against what we came up with in the "enlightenment." While a lot of people will slam literature like the Qur'an and the Bible, there's things in there that you can learn from. These beliefs didn't survive for a couple thousand years for no reason and even if you disagree with a lot of the content about religious stuff, you overlook the wisdom of previous generations at your peril.

The "cases" for these shows are real in the sense that you describe, but the producers are the ones who determine who gets on the show.

The more you hate something, the stronger it gets. By assigning something so much anger, hatred, outrage and so forth, you give it power over your emotions and actions (you type out an angry rant instead of closing the window and saying "hah, what a fucking psycho").

Craig Hutchinson sabotaged the condoms his partner insisted he wear in a bid to impregnate her and thus encourage her to stay with him, prosecutors said. This plan sounds well reasoned and thought out beforehand.

Many men are feminists according to feminism's original goal as an ideology, that being equality for women in the 50's era of a male-dominated society: things like women being able to vote, hold public office, run their own businesses, and so on. Saying "be a feminist" turns people off, because they think of the new age feminist bred on SRS and tumblr shrieking "check your privilege!"

Depends on your area. Keep in mind that women who can't get dates in real life go on okcupid and other similar websites for a reason. Often it is too late before you discover what that reason is.

I saw this thread and knew it was bait, but I had to reply (I posted before I saw this thread was posted). It always bothers me the condescending tone used by feminists in this kind of situation. Their line of reasoning more or less is "women can't handle it because they don't have the mental strength men do so we need to protect them". That kind of callous remark on behalf of people who are (presumably) in defense of women... it boggles the mind. I'm not cynical enough yet to dismiss women in t…

If you have to set up a straw man and then knock him down with the force of over 9000 kilosagans of internet bravery, you really have nothing to contribute to the discussion and in the end you're just derailing the thread, distracting users looking for legitimate discussion, and being a douchebag. If you don't understand the topic, then read more about it before talking about it. "It is better to be silent and thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."
