Except gays aren't feminine, they're infantile. Their misunderstanding of social norms and cues seems strikingly similar to a young child before they grapple with the gradual realisation of social expectations that most children experience during puberty - particularly concepts such as handling social rejection without narcissistic fury; adaptation of peer group norms; and that people have no time or concern to give them special treatment or allowances because they have their own problems and concerns.

This misunderstanding leads to Exaggerated Performance as a way to gain attention - what you're misreading as 'femininity'. Gay guys aren't feminine. They're performing a grotesque exaggeration of femininity to gain acceptance with the female caregivers who reward their sissy mannerisms during childhood, as straight men and father figures have no time for children who will avoid hard work and the possibility of failure. Gays prefer the comfort of what is easy: dad will expect you to do hard, physical things that run the risk of hurting yourself, and, as such, never challenge themselves and develop emotional resilience. Easier to run to a female audience who will celebrate them for simply existing. You have to earn respect from male peers and you don't gain it by demanding special treatment and saying that everyone has to like you.

Gays are also heterophobic and misogynistic. Their reaction to female sex organs is exaggerated and, once again, purely infantile. "OMG, pussy, ewwww fish...." blah blah. It's the response of a child in the playground thinking girls have 'germs'. Fuck knows why women think such savage misogynists are their friends, but I expect two narcissists using each other of an audience largely engage in parallel conversations, never truly interacting with each other. Think about drag sometime: what else is that but a monsterous parody of what gays think women are?

Note classic 'gay face': exaggerated eyebrows, wide eyes, open mouth. Toddler performance. If it's not that, it's the disingenuous smile: straight line, both teeth showing, no corners turned up, unraised cheekbones, non-crinkled eyes. Social misreading of how adults smile due to a lack of empathy for others, and strikingly-similar to babies.

You'd be surprised how common that one is amongst gay guys. I've noticed as Millenial Girls have become so socially-awkward, they're not quite sure how to smile normally either, so you're getting duckface or miley cyrus tongue in every profile shot.

This basic difference, adult vs child, is why gay and straight men will never truly get along - men mature later than women, but to far greater depths, and the alpha ones are simply too far from childlike thinking to be able to relate in any way to a gay guy. Women simply have more in common with them, because their higher levels of oxytocin means they're more nurturing of children.

From my experience, no matter the claim of being her 'bestie', you always have to deflect the inevitable "You know if you just shut your eyes it feels like a girl doing it. Have you ever tried it?" conversation from your girl's Pet Gay. My response is simply: "If you think it's that easy, why don't you shut your eyes and fuck a girl." Cue standard hysterical "OMG VAGINA EWWW!" response.

Childlike misunderstanding social cues. That's all it is. It's why they read everything as homoerotic. A bunch of guys with their shirts off is erotic to them, so it must be to the guys with their shirts off too.

"You don't like me? What! You have to like me! I'll MAKE you like me!" < runs off to the teacher

Think about how a gay pride parade resembles a middle school pageant: untalented people performing for a largely bored audience, and expecting applause for doing so.

Adult men thinking taking drugs and dancing all night isn't an embarrassing and immature lifestyle when still in their fifties, when they should have developed healthy adult relationships and nested and outgrown the need for it.

Children, not women.

If you can't relate to your 'own people', you're kind of stuck. You're not going to be able to toughen them up, because most people are lazy, and are going to regress to whatever takes the least effort to achieve affirmation. Why are they going to work to strengthen themselves, when there's a whole industry that will tell them they're strong and brave for simply existing.

Also, stop to think that gays have a prescribed role in society for a reason: men who banded together could be very powerful, particularly if they have no interest in the concerns of women. As such, masculinised homosexual men would be a very real threat to those in power, which is why the gay cliché exists: marginalised, subcultured, effeminate, weak, superficial, self-obsessed. That's exactly how they want you to be.

Wow. Did you come up with this "children, not women" theory yourself, or did you get it somewhere else?

Its fucking spot on. It explains so much.

I have a gay friend who is extremely masculine and he literally hates how feminine his gay peers act, he thinks its disgusting, and we've talked about it extensively. But your perspective, that gay men are basically acting like children, has never even come up.

Just long-term observation. My line of work means I regularly interact with many gay men and certain patterns of behaviour honestly are definitely stereotypical - gay guys will admit this amongst themselves, but will vilify homosexuals for pointing out the same thing. I suspect others in the psych / social work / drug counselling etc field who allow themselves to think outside the box probably have come a similar conclusions, but it's a conversation that society isn't mature enough to have, because any criticism must equal hatred, even if there's no hatred in my words.

They really have such low resilient personalities that they are meaningfully and genuinely traumatised by trivial things in their life. It's fascinating, but absolutely exhausting to interact with on a day-to-day basis because they exist in a state of self-focused constant heightened drama, they honestly show no empathy for others around them and you function as nothing but an audience to them, which makes them highly-unpleasant.

A conversation I recently had with one of the male nurses, who'd had a kidney stone and was sent a letter saying he needed to go in for a biopsy:

Him: "Oh my god. I'm going to die."

Me: "You're not going to die. It's just a simple procedure. Day surgery. You'll be in and out."

Him: "I'm going to bleed to death on the operating table. Oh my god. Who is going to look after my dogs? Oh my poor babies!"

Me: (talking him off the ledge) "It's a basic procedure. You're overreacting. It's not that big a deal."

Him: "I have to contact [his fag hag]. I'm sure she'll take my babies."

Me: "You're catastrophising. You're wasting energy on a highly-unlikely possibility. Deal with what is, not what mightn't happen."

Him: (not listening - classic gay parallel conversation, you're talked AT not TO) "Specialists are usually Jewish aren't they? Oh my god. What if he sees my Muslim tattoo?"

Me: "What?"

Him: "Oh my god. He'll be totally Jewish, and he'll murder me on the operating table. I'm going to bleed to death and he'll make it look like an accident, just because I have a muslim tattoo."

Me: "Calm down. What you are saying is insane. You do realise that don't you?"

Him: "No it isn't! You're an unfeeling, selfish bastard. How can you not be scared for me? I can't talk to you anymore. You're a cunt." And off he flounced.

BTW, his muslim tatt says, I shit you not, 'Strength'.

I wish I could say this kind of batshit thought process was an aberration, but, no. They just seem to be that hysterical. And he's old enough to have lived through the AIDS crisis. How did that not toughen him up?

Incidentally, I learnt to not catastrophise due to fighting spinal cancer when I was younger. He never knew, because he has never shown an interest or empathy in those around him to ask. I'm just a 'breeder' to him, women are just 'fish', everyone is evil for being a 'homophobe', even though he's obviously-racist.

One other gem from another gay staff member. I heard him say to one of the female nurses: "How are you? Not that I actually care, but I've been told it's polite to ask." He then proceeded to talk AT her about some upcoming party he was going to on the weekend.

I don't think Homophobia is a real thing. People just don't like selfish people who lack empathy. I can see how this will destroy solidarity in any male group if one person puts themselves ahead of their brothers and expects them to carry them - hence, exclusion by the pack.

Little kids: me me me me me. For a strong, resilient alpha man, interaction is a matter of patiently-tolerating bratty kid behaviour. If the OP wants to hang with straight guys: be resilient; don't expect special treatment; show enough empathy to put the interests of the group before yourself; be reliable; be honourable; don't sexualise everything.

I'd be curious to see if this occurs in cultures where stereotypical feminine behavior doesn't look like it does in our culture, and if so, what does it look like.

Well put, this is the second sidebar quality comment I've read today.

This right here is really good and I approve.

[–]icanteventhecat2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Interesting theory. However, I speculate the vast majority of gay/bi men are still in the closet and blend in seamlessly. Many specifically do not want to be associated with the "flamboyant queen" stereotype. In fact, the more masculine they are, the less likely they are to come out.

[–]CosmicSignificance[S] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Agreed, in fact this is implied in my explanation. The gays you don't notice are more likely the ones that have more engagement with straight men and masculine activities. This could just be because of the way they were brought up or the nature of their hobbies, especially when they were younger. For example I know of 3 would-never-have-guessed it types that all play/played on a rugby team. You see a softer version of it in video gamers as well, but a strong gaydar can pick up on it. Gays can easily hide among nerd culture, it is probably the safest environment of all.

Gay men are attracted to masculine men? I am thin, 5'5 and have a baby face... I wish i got hit on by women as much as I do from gay men.

[–]Ausfall0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So what you're saying is that gay men befriend women easily, spend more time with them socially and through that are infected by their "girly-ness" by osmosis or something?

[–]CosmicSignificance[S] 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yes, that's pretty much it.

[–]WhyNotThough0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

interesting, I have read an article regarding the homosexual male to lack a masculine figure during mental development (masculine father figure). Resulting in a chase and attraction toward masculine men.

There was much more to this, this is just extremely simplified

[–]mccdizzie0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Jack Donovan writes very interestingly on charicature-feminine gay culture. He's a spill blood kind of guy so I usually like his work, and he is himself gay.
