For context; M(32), together for 15 years (married for 5), make £35k, no children. This is me right now. I have just had the conversation to say I’m leaving the marriage. What makes this incredibly hard and painful is, that she has done nothing wrong in all of this. There is no other woman, or other life, or any other reason aside from me being profoundly unhappy being married. I have many faults, I don’t communicate effectively and people please to a pathological fault, I think I’m probably ase…

It’s good to ventilate these feelings on this forum, to act as a barometer for your emotions and situations. Brother, it’s only natural. You once had feeling and connections for this women, enough that you had children etc. I’m glad things are amicable but remember that things ended for a reason (which I am not privy too) but nevertheless, ended. I’m proud that you are being there for your children; that’s powerful and something to continue. But I also wonder if you need to do activity for yours…

Wasn’t expected to feel targeted today 😂. I joke of course but reflecting that, as a nurse, I am petitioning my wife for divorce shortly (once shit is in order). Keep you heads held high Kings

I guess there is no right answer in all of this, which is why I was wondering what others felt. It’s helpful to remind myself of my values; so I have my answer which is to wait a brief period to enable things to level out a little. Thank you :)

There’s a lot of good advice going on here from other comments so I won’t echo it again. I will say three things; Completing suicide increases the risk your children will do in later life. I say this not to hijack you but help you realise the impact on a familial death. I see this on my work. Time and occupation. Create some distance between your divorce by working on yourself through occupation or hobby. Release those endorphins. And finally, living well is the best revenge. Show her how you’ve…

I feel you bro, similar but not as intense situation as yours. Wife has health anxiety and demands significant resources from me, all the whole I’m doing everything. I am about to file for divorce in a few weeks once I got my ducks in order. Keep your head high brother, the healing will take place now :)

This is what I needed to hear thank you for your wonderful advice. Got some pointers to deflect attention away from me, in addition to guidance on navigating the mandatory questions of why. I know things will get back to my wife etc so I will be cautious with what I say and on what modality (text, email etc) I have already primed my sister and brother for support but I want to gather myself, information, documents, and such before I commit. Will keep the forum updated as and when :)

The in laws will be on my case, trying to intervene and repair. Do you have any tips with them? Like limiting contact and such?

Thank you for your insights. I’ve done some reading in what to expect, how things will change, and how to protect myself. I hope you are keeping well

Currently edging closer to the option of divorce. I’m so demoralised, decompensated, and unappreciated that I fantasise more often of living alone on my terms. The thing that stops me is my stupid brain guilting me for ‘hurting’ her; also, I’m so tied up and integrated into her family, the fallout will be catastrophic. I know I can live independently, have been for many months looking after her, the house, my health, and job. I just don’t know how to initiate it

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
