I agree, Mohammed actually changed the prayer direction from Jeruzalem to Mecca after the jews weren't as loyal to him as he expected them to be, he promised his followers many things and even changed parts of the religion of islam when it suited him, and he got away with it. He knew how to motivate people.

They fought in name of their god and to spread their religion, i believe the promise of virgins in heaven was only a minor reason they fought for Allah and Mohammed, as for their succes, the arabs were great fighters and their unification under one religion made them superior in military force over the declining persian and byzantine empires wich had exhausted their military by fighting eachother for decades prior to the rise of islam.

Go 3 times a week the first 2 weeks then go every day if you are able. Start counting your calories, half the work is done in the kitchen. Only drink water and take a bottle with you to the gym, most other drinks are full of sugar and its not that hard to drop them and switch them for water. Try to get 1.3 grams of protein for every kg of bodyweight, youll need it to build muscle, buying protein shakes is an easy way to get those. Just go for it, get the gym membership asap, no excuses.
