The severity of misogyny online is at a higher level than the severity of misandry online. So while I will try to prove my hypothesis right, I want to know what you guys (and girls) think about it. Do you agree with it? I might be wrong, but I'd be a bit surprised if this specifically was true. it's not terribly hard to find women making extreme statements like "i'd abort if I found out my kid was a boy", "all men are dangerous, and often want to control/oppress women", or just people condoning …

I know this is like a year old, but I just wanna mention that "I never brought up rights or law because if we played that game, women would always win" is a highly contestable statement. it's great that you two were both talking in good faith, but there's a lot here that im surprised no one here even expounded on. There are MANY rights men lack that women don't (and im sure there are rights women lack as well), even if we're very strict with the criteria. Circumcision, rights being denied withou…

Yeah, that's the male experience. I mean, getting jumped isn't totally normal, but that lack of emotional, or physical concern you can expect is. You captured it all so well, I'm surprised someone like you didn't notice it before you transitioned. I always assumed all this stuff should be super obvious (i don't mean this in an antagonistic way. im just surprised at how surprised you were)

This isn't necessary racist tho. Some people get nausea at the smell of cigarettes, or medicine, or cleaning products, and some people don't. Im sure theres plenty of foods that would put off my senses, but that wouldn't imply my thoughts on the demographic commonly associated with the dishes

outside of "men simply were" before, I wholly agree. I don't think that's ever been a thing.. anywhere. Yet.

I like this answer. My current partner has PMDD, and I never even noticed any other partner have their periods, but for him, they will literally writhe in pain for hours if they miss their painkillers. Periods are definitely no binary..

I don't doubt you, but I've never once observed it applied to a woman in my life (at not that I can remember). Maybe it's a country or language thing, but I just wanna say that such a media consumption sphere exists, and OP might not have been knowingly biased when they wrote that

to quote him: "what harmful thing did femininity teach you (he meant "do to you". he's polish and english can be remiss at times)? do makeup to other people" so, yes. they think femininity has zero negative effect on people around them. As to how they think masculinity teaches boys to treat women? Well, that was the aforementioned "masculinity teaches men they're the master of a house, who gets to be served meals and to fuck whenever he wants and to value women just for their service to them" Ha…

wow. My conversations with my boyfriend regarding toxic masculinity are just him attempting to actively cycle a motte and bailey, as if I have goldfish memory. "I always thought it [toxic masculinity] made it clear that the focus was to highlight how men are hurt by being made to conform to masculinity". Okay, well.. is it clear Im trying to highlight the how black people are victims of self harming aspects of black culture with "toxic black culture"? also, if its about the victims.. where is to…

Yeah, the transition from conservative thought to that of feminists is surprisingly natural. it just builds further on the actor/acted upon perception of men and women respectively. I guess I am up to the task, but um.. Even something as simple as patriarchy theory, he can't see. He really thinks only niche , radical feminists actually believe in the patriarchy theory, and that only niche radical feminists censor other movements, and consider their movement to be equal to egalitarianism. I don't…

I definitely don't think men have it worse. I guess I would say anyone who doesn't conform to their gender role has it worse, or anyone who does conform, but is in conflict with their personality in doing so.. I think he'd support me against violent women, while spinning it as if it were a one off case, and then going on a tangent about how much worse women must have it Also, Im think im pretty much opposite to you in what I want. I don't care so much how they behave, as long as they can introsp…

I agree! I think assuming near parity was hasty of me.. So far, a lot of reasons for why a 1:2 ratio mtf homicide ratio might be a problematic figure were discussed, but with a different perspective, I might see evidence just as condemning that supports that men really are probably the majority of offenders. I would never venture that an increased tendency for men to commit homicide in intimate relationships is intrinsic to the male gender (at least in terms of non-physical characteristics), but…

I'm specifically trying to avoid statistics on just any violence, and focusing on homicide to avoid problems like this.

You should really be getting more upvotes for this. This is an equality focused subreddit. If we focused on pragmatism in the current day, we might as well all just embrace the feminist overlords too. There are no practical benefits to being egalitarian when it's so out of fashion

of the facets of conventional attractiveness, physical attractiveness is a much smaller component for men than it is for women, in general

Sorry for the simp, but you and tintelfroot are the one two people I (so far) consistently wholly agree with on this sub ..I would add that a woman's inherit worth, if defined by the quality of how they get treated, isn't entirely fixed. There's some general chivalrous rules that apply to about every woman given a tradcon society, but conventional attractiveness goes a longer way with how much intrinsic worth, and quality of treatment (at least from straight men) they'd receive. ..At least the u…

I've had about 6 long term relationships, and 3 of them ended in false accusations (out of learned paranoia, I even took a dang video of the last one, just to prove they're lying. Oh, yeah, and one tried to have unconsensual sex with me. Now my dad thinks I hit my partners, and I've lost friends over it, because they just take my ex's word for it.. Another time, I was extremely paranoid about morning after birth control, and they REFUSED for days to take contraception. I had to beg.. for days. a…

i believe and i could be wrong but studies have shown that women have an in group bias while men have an outward bias (so towards women) i.e women are wonderful effect I mean, if women are the only ones anyone can be emotionally open to, it also agrees with my theory that the issue is not that women have in-group bias, but that men are indirectly conditioned not to. one could argue that this takes place due to the male disposability effect which is very popular with the neo/hyperfeminist crowd T…

The tilt I think you're referring to was kind of central to the point I was trying to make tho.. Also, real world human relationships are just another standardized gendered construct. Maybe if we had more laws that ignore people's biases to subscribe to them, it would be less likely that they do. You seem to want either no solution, or one that conforms to current societal bias, just as I did, when I said it's a good idea, despite less women being in some very good, yet male dominated fields (to…

If a lower class latino man has an unwanted pregnancy with an upper-middle class white woman.. remind me again what happens? You do have a point tho, but you're comparing that point against absolute fairness, and not against the current generalized fuckworth of a system that's currently in place

I haven't read the book, but I assume that it's a comparison between boys who generally subscribe to gender roles/notions/stereotypes (unless they're all with us here on this subreddit) with and without male role models, and it's impact on them is measured in their outcome when introduced to a larger world that also subscribes to gendered everything..?

I think assigning traits according to gender is weird, and that male role models are just as obsolete a concept as female ones

Just wanna add that from my personal experience, most male culture seems to also frown on men confiding their feelings with other men. At least we've always still got cats, and concerned, androgenous potted plants.

Just, to address only your first point.. Not every guy rates women/people on their looks. I'm sure I never do, and I certainly would hate knowing if it were happening to me. As little as people like to talk about it, I think attractiveness is an obvious system of discrimination in society, and some people really do do their best to not participate in it

I'd say it's a lot of things. Most people don't really care about equality or try to think empathetically in any capacity at all. They're mostly self-serving, and subscribe to popular culture to that end. Feminism is popular culture. Women are conditioned to tend to have in-group bias, and men are conditioned to not, so advocating for themselves is relatively much easier. It's socially acceptable for women to complain, and socially unacceptable for men to complain, in line with gender roles. Sub…

You don't think you just wanna be an egalitarian, as opposed to a masculinist? We're of the opinion that it's gender roles that lead to gender inequalities, so, women are (or at least "were") more or less equally affected. well, obviously how bad it is depends on how much an individual's personality conflicts with their assigned gender role but yeah... "masculinist" kind of sounds like almost the same regressive thinking as feminist to me

I'm so glad you brought this up. There's so many societal constraints from gender roles/biases, and men's advocates often just talk about the larger, more systemic and legal ones. We can't even just passively look at people, let alone women and kids on public transport, or in general, even when we're just trying to mind our own business and not interact. Being seen as a danger and a threat by default is dehumanizing, and absolutely a male disadvantage that I think needs more attention than it ge…
