Hey, thanks for the nice note! I'm 21 now. I was a painfully shy kid until about 14 when I was in high school. I made a couple of friends who I sat beside in a couple of classes and gradually assimilated into a group of 6 or so really good friends. My last two years at high school were great, I had this really close group of friends I liked and got on very well with all sorts of people in my year, from the jocks, the quiet smart people, the tough guys and pretty much everyone else. I guess it wa…

Yeah good idea on creating memorable social situations - if you're the guy who stops and talks in the smoking areas and in the corridors then that's all you'll ever be. I get invited to some of their parties but they always seem like a closed sort of thing within this extended group. Most of these people know each other from college residences since freshman year so are all really close which makes me feel like a bit of an outsider. I spent my first two years at college hanging out with friends …

Yeah I'm fairly ok with all that but I probably should have explained if we both are stationary, say both in different groups of friends. I'm with my friends, she's with hers and I catch her eye but I don't feel like walking 20 or so metres over to her group. Never sure what's the best way to show interest and breaking eye contact after a second seems dismissive on my part.

Thank you for going into this much detail for me. The lesson of this story is very valid. I will take your advice and use what I've learned on this subreddit and give it a go. Your story has really motivated me, congrats on having the balls to do it. And yeah later on in your life you're not gonna regret the time you asked a girl out and failed but letting all those chances slip by. Grab life by the balls.

Yeah I'm gonna try prevent this crush from ruining my real game. This is great advice. the more I fantasise about it the more emotional baggage I carry and thus become more nervous and fear rejection more, because I've spent so much time thinking about it. Just need to set myself down and focus on reality.

Thanks for the advice, albeit simple. I have to just forget about it all and start talking to her again. I had no problem talking to her at the beginning because I didn't realise I liked her.

To be dead honest, I've always been a Beta to the core. I lack the ability to be socially manipulative or dominant (always very submissive) and have always bitched out of stuff like this. I can't really joke with people as I have a fear of offending them. These are sides of my personality which I hate.

Yeah it's bullshit, why does the brain make all this shit up that isn't real? Often when I find out a girl likes me, it kind of turns me off her a little bit, how does that work?!

No the situation is complicated.. I am her supervisor for a society in college. She's a great worker and is always enthusiastic. I feel that because she is my subordinate, I am somewhat taking advantage of my status if I try hook up with her, adding to her elusiveness. Besides, if I get rejected by her it will be hell'a awkward at our meetings.

At this stage, I am meeting these feelings with regret. When I like someone my game goes out the window. Too much on the line! And I morph into Socially Awkward Penguin. Whereas girls I have no interest in, I am incredibly laid back around. Scumbag genetics.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
