Sure. In a descriptive sense, because most people consider a linguist to be someone in the field of linguistics, then yes, I am a real linguist. Also pretty much any credible linguist follows descriptivism. Kinda like asking if a "real physicist" is someone who believes F=m*a.

Linguist here, if the entirety of the planet uses "American" to refer to citizens of the United States, that word means citizens of the United States. Dictating what words should and should not be used is not only ridiculous, it's futile. People have been trying to get us to stop splitting infinitives and saying "ain't" and nobody gives a fuck. I can't speak for all of those questions but as a linguist, Proto-Indo-European was a hypothetical ancestor language, the term for its descendants is Indo-European languages. Not all of them have masculine as the default gender, hell, some, notably English, have lost grammatical gender almost entirely. Grammatical gender has literally nothing to do with sexual gender. You're right about confidence. The knife I had at the time was a seax, the first knife I made. I still carry a decent size knife wherever I go, even if I don't loiter around in bad neighborhoods. Hope I never have to use it.

True, but regardless of how it's done, it's nice she acknowledged that men should be able to feel vulnerable in the first place. The way she worded it seemed to imply not that men should express emotion the same way as women but more that they should be listened to the same way as we do to women.

34 hours. Half a day longer than the previous 30.4. I too am only awake for 8 hours a day. "But it implies 8 hour workday!" Generally speaking maintaining a good edge should only consist of stropping and occasionally sharpening it, but they don't make them like they used to. Mine is a WW1 era F.W. Engels and requires nearly no maintenance whatsoever. Cleanest shave I've seen. Not sure I would trust shaving my own head with a straight razor though, sounds like a great way to look like Freddy Krueger from behind.

Idk, $20-30 on a probably 100 year old badass straight razor and you don't need shaving cream, blades, or even electricity. I've probably saved a (relative) fortune on shaving and it's a lot cooler than everything in the first place. I vaguely remember someone saying "why shave like your grandpa when you can shave like the Romans"
