I wish I've never been born. My birth was a mistake. I see my life as a trap.

That way they leave me the fuck alone. My experience is the exact opposite. I wasn't left alone because I'm a male. My childhood, teenage years and early youth were accompanied by constant violence, which wouldn't have happened if I had been a girl. In my adulthood, the violence has decreased, but it hasn't stopped completely. I never feel safe around other people, especially men.

Not many feminists in the military, that's true. I know one feminist woman serving on the front line (the public person I mentioned above) and another one in the Army, but in a non-combat role (I know her personally). That's all I've seen in all the years of this war. The vast majority of feminists are not in the military.

Both conservative and feminist arguments. Sometimes conservative and feminist arguments coming at the same time, from one person (I know at least one such example here in Ukraine from a public person). This is because feminism and conservatism are not that different, they actually have much in common.

feminists in fox holes are few and few between No, they are not, believe me, as a person who lives in Ukraine. Feminists here are numerous, but the thing is, they don't consider mobilization an equality issue and use all kinds of mental gymnastics to justify the idea that women should not be mobilized. From "women are overburdened with child care responsibilities, so they can't be drafted" to "mobilization of men is not discrimination, but the price men pay for their privilege" (this one makes m…

I agree. Ideally, masculinity as a concept should be abolished. It doesn't mean that traits that are considered masculine should be abolished (these are often good traits). But it means that these traits should not be labelled as "masculine". Calling these traits "masculine" often means pressure and shaming of men and boys for not conforming to the idea of masculinity. We should teach boys human values, not "masculine" expectations.

If Russian soldiers were mercenaries and not zealots, they would be concerned with self-preservation, which is clearly not reflected in the way Russian infantry fights. They are severely punished for disobedience, often by death. Did you hear the term "обнуление"? Did you hear the story about Puzik? Do you read z-bloggers at least sometimes? They are explicitly talking about corruption and sadism in the Russian army. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCbsg_QW7s0 It doesn't look like an army motiva…

People became so intolerant only after 2022 OK. Now try to take another step and think: what happened in 2022? Why exactly could people in Ukraine become so intolerant of someone who says they should surrender to the aggressor and demonizes their country, spreading lies about it? I'm quite hopeful you can build this logical chain.

the better question is not why Ukrainians support Zelensky but why they support the war I'm also from Ukraine. What you are saying is manipulative. The majority of Ukrainians don't "support the war", they support self-defence and are against Russian occupation. The reason why your views are in the minority is because they don't make sense Saying that Ukrainians "support the war" is deeply disgusting. 30k to 50k volunteer soldiers a month They are not volunteers, they are mercenaries. It's a huge difference. Certainly, their families are. It seems implausible that the ones fighting are only in it for the money while their families are true believers. Of course, the relatives would be telling you beautiful stories. Do you think the wife is likely to say she sent her husband as cannon fodder for money? Do some research on how much money Russian men are being offered to sign up for the war in Uk…

The Russians are so highly motivated and fanatical because for the most part they truly believe that they're fighting a defensive war against an enemy who seeks to exterminate them No, that’s absolutely not true. The vast majority of Russians are completely indifferent to a war happening on foreign soil. The Russian military is not an army of volunteers, but an army of mercenaries. The vast majority of Russian soldiers are motivated by money. Russia offers very generous payouts for fighting in U…

Your comment would be funny if it wasn't posted in a Western sub. So I find it not funny, but repulsive. When a person from Ukraine actively promotes anti-Ukrainian lies while his country is at war for survival and its people need international support to reduce the death toll from Russian attacks, it's disgusting and deeply immoral. I hope people reading your comment will fact-check your statements and realize they are a blatant lie. You receive hate from other Ukrainians because you spread out…

by obscuring the systemic nature of violence against women and the gender dynamics at play in domestic violence Studies show that men become victims of domestic violence (at least physical) as much often as women, so why is violence against women systemic and violence against men is not? As to the dynamics at play in domestic violence, it can be quite diverse. The feminist idea that domestic violence is mostly fueled by men's attempts to dominate, subjugate or control women seems to contradict s…

We turned into Russia No, we haven't. It's a misleading, manipulative, and outright wrong equivalence. Except for the mobilization, everything else concerning personal freedoms is incomparably better in Ukraine than in Russia. Ukraine is fighting against a common threat to Europe OK, well, thank you for acknowledging at least that.

in Ukraine where people constantly devalue each other's feeling and opinions and brand each other as traitors Well OK, you should have started with that — basically, it's not the Ukrainian "government" you dislike, it's Ukrainian society, the people, Ukrainians themselves. If you promote surrender to Russia during a war for survival, it’s no surprise people call you a traitor.

What the hell is it with anti-Ukrainian and pro-Russian rhetoric on this sub? Maybe it's a minority. Judging by the comments and upvotes, the majority of people in this sub support Ukraine in its fight against Russia, while at the same time rightly criticizing Ukraine's mobilization policy. Nevertheless, this anti-Ukrainian minority is enough for me as a Ukrainian not to feel safe in this sub anymore. I used to see LWMA as a safe island, but not any more. should I hate Ukrainian goverment less for kicking me because Putin kicked it first Russia attacks Ukraine — Ukraine starts mobilization to defend itself — deep-rooted gender prejudices of Ukrainian society result in a sexist attitude to mobilization. But for example Germany or Poland can culturally genocide me Are you sure that in case of Russian occupation you'll manage to escape the country before Russians close the border or before they imprison or kill you? Because the vast majority of Ukrainians don't want to be occupied by Russia. Russian occupation would mean losing all human rights and freedoms, persecutions (the so-called filtration), imprisonments and killings of people with active pro-Ukrainian views or people who supported the Ukrainian Army (which now is the majority of Ukrainians, so almost everyone is at risk and has reasons to fear), losing democracy, russificaton and erasure of Ukrainian national identity, losing independence and state…

It depends on what you mean by "winning". I think most Ukrainians are realistic in this respect and they know that winning in the sense of returning all occupied territories is unlikely. On the other hand, a total defeat, with Russia occupying Kyiv or seizing massive new regions, is also unlikely. But forcing Russia to stop its offensive by draining its economic resources is completely realistic. The Ukrainian Army is actively and effectively working on this right now by hitting oil refineries a…

This all is very complicated, especially when you see the situation from the inside and don't want easy black-and-white answers. But in general, I don't think there is contradiction between believing that Ukraine should defend itself and criticizing its current mobilization policy.

I feel for you guys, I hate that Ukraine was attacked so horrendously. But that didn't mean that you had to implement a disgusting sexist military service system. As a Ukrainian, I agree. The mobilization system could be organized more fairly and more effectively.

Is this some kind of misogyny? Yes, these are stereotypical misogynistic ideas that give women less agency by placing less responsibility on them. The one who carries less responsibility holds less agency. Men bear the responsibility, while women can just have rest if they want to — what is this if not a misogynistic devaluation of women compared to men? This is simultaneously misandry and misogyny. Misandry — because male life is treated as less valuable than female life. Misogyny — because wom…

If it's an ancient habit, living in people's collective psyche, then it is not followed by rational calculations. No one thinks "OK, let's save more women, so that we can repopulate more easily". It works as an impulse. The question is what lies behind this impulse. The male expendability theory is one of possible explanations. Maybe there are several factors at play. Besides the ancient urge to save more women for repopulation (ancient societies were not necessarily monogamous, and even some mo…

absolutely no obligations Ukrainian women don't have obligations based on law, but they do have obligations based on necessity. Someone has to raise the children, someone has to work to maintain the economy — that's what the women do. Also they do a huge amount of volunteer work to support the army. The majority of Ukrainian women did not leave the country. Again, I'm saying this not to justify the mobilization based on gender. As I said before, I don't think it's fair. Maybe it's not victim-blaming in the literal sense (like, "what's happening to you is your own fault"), but something very close to that. He's trying to shift the EU's guilt of halting protection for Ukrainian men on Ukraine ("The EU did it because Ukraine asked" — technically true to some extent, it was one of the reasons, but it doesn't excuse the EU's actions, because the EU has agency and is responsible for it's actions; a crime cannot be justified because it was commited because someone els…

There's no reason not to let them leave the country. It wouldn't help no one if they were prohibited to leave. Only more civilian casualties from Russian attacks. Having to work in factories is also not an option because Ukraine, unlike Stalin's USSR, is a market economy. Forcing women to work in factories would mean taking them from their jobs, which would be harmful for the economy. Ukraine's market economy maintains the Army and makes it possible to produce drones and rockets and fulfill othe…

The reason is the same as it was in all other wars in human history, where winning was important, but women were not mobilized. Women are seen as (a) more prescious (b) weaker. This attitude exists in all societies, Ukraine is not unique in this respect. Another reason is that personnel shortages in the Army are not severe yet.

Why doesn't the EU start with its own example? It could say "No, we wouldn't restrict protection based on gender, because it's not fair". But it didn't say it. Neither Denmark or Norway said it. I'm sorry, but in terms of giving a good / bad example the EU is doing more harm than Ukraine, as the EU is more likely to be seen as a role model than Ukraine. And trust me as an EU citizen i will do everything in my power to things better. The first thing you can do to make things better is to stop denying the EU's guilt and portraying it as a poor innocent victim of manipulation. Under Ukrainian legislation, holding elections during a state of martial law is prohibited. the way ukraine fell back on historic norms in my opinion really set Europe back. Your victim-blaming is disgusting. Ukraine is at existential war. Why are you blaming Ukraine instead of the one who started this war (Russia), forcing Europe to revert to the mindsets of wartime eras? Zelensky has created the most oppressive unequal system …

Your victim-blaming is disgusting. Ukraine gives them an excuse to fall back into the old patterns of Male disposabilty. It's bringing out the worst instincts in Europe Don't deny the EU's agency. These people are not infants. They are responsible for what they do. the worst instincts in Europe when we just put it to bed The only reason these instincts were put into bed is that Europe has been peaceful since WWII (with some exceptions like Yugoslavia, where the same instincts were revived again)…

Stalin: treated both men and women brutally, both during war and in peacetime. Cannon fodder, repressions, executions, the GULAG, the Iron Curtain. Ukraine: has a gender-based mobilization policy (like almost every other country in human history) while fighting a war where another country is trying to destroy it as a nation. Remains a democratic country and has free elections. Ukraine worse than Stalin? What kind of nonsense is that?

Ukraine pretends to be this liberal democratic country when it treats men like literal slaves and allows women to live in Paris Now the EU does exactly the same when it stopped giving protection to Ukrainian military-aged men. So the EU isn't liberal and democratic? Ukraine is no different from the rest of the world in this respect. The only difference is that it's at war, targeted for destruction, and trying to survive as a country and nation. Your attitude is extremely unfair.

I read a study saying that in australia only male dominated industries have increasing parity. This cannot be said for woman dominated industries. This attitude reflects not only misandry, but also the misogyny of the policy makers. They don't see female-dominated professions as important enough. If a man is discriminated against in a female-dominated field, they don't see it as a problem because it doesn't occur to them that a female-dominated profession might be something worth striving for. Very nice post, I'm going to save it. Female traditional gender roles are real too, just like the male ones, and they are enforced through pressure too. The phrase "a real woman" is indeed rare, but women are pressured into trad…

This is why the word "patriarchy" is so misleading and manipulative. It centers masculinity around power, while in reality it's actually centered around other, often quite opposite things, like the exploitation of men. Patriarchy is a side effect rather than the cause.

Complicating the matter further is the reluctance of men, often the primary breadwinners, to undergo surgery. This hesitation significantly contributes to the gender gap in organ recipients. Femicide laws do not specifically target hate crimes. Look at the criteria of "femicide" in the screenshots in my post. These criteria are very loose. Almost any murder of a woman in a domestic setting can be interpreted as "femicide". Usually they count almost all murders of women as "femicides" (for example, in Italy 106 out of 116 murders of women were classified as falling under this category). There wouldn't be a problem with such laws if they really addressed hate crimes. But they don't. T…

Those who explain violence by coercive control usually overestimate how often men are driven by this motive and underestimate how often women are driven by it. There are numerous motives for violence, and coercive control is only one if them. And in those cases when violence is indeed driven by the desire to control and/or coerce, it's far more gender neutral than it's usually presented.

We will not convince the "progressives". They usually have a very rigid dogmatic worldview, and trying to change their mind is a waste of time in most cases. We should instead focus on more neutral people, especially young.

Yes, the empathy gap is the cause of injustice towards men, but we need to go deeper and ask what causes the empathy gap itself. The empathy gap stems from traditional gender roles, declaring that women should be cared for and protected, while men must be strong and able to take care of themselves. Also men don't have emotions, so there is no need to worry about them when they suffer. They don’t suffer because they have no emotions (they only have egos). And if a man does have emotions, he is we…

There is a grain of truth in it, but it's not the whole picture. An important (and probably the main) factor is socialization. There would be much less violent men if they weren't force-fed with ideas of traditional masculinity starting from early childhood and weren't constantly shamed (often in advance, "preventively") for not fitting into them. Also probably one of the factors is neglect. A neglected boy will more likely become violent than a boy from a fully functioning family that cares abo…

The problem with the left (e.g. US Democratic Party) is that: They don't care about male issues (e.g. life expectancy gap, a few times higher suicide rates etc) while caring a lot about female issues (abortion, domestic violence etc). It’s obvious that feminism — especially in the broader sense, given its monopoly and dominance in mainstream gender policies at the national and international levels (e.g. the UN) — is counterproductive in at least one respect: it tends to ignore, deny, or downplay men’s issues. Gender roles, which lie at the root of gender inequality, are almost always two-sided. Ignoring the gender-related problems of half of humanity is, at best, short-sighted — and at worst, harmful.

For a long time, women voted Conservative more than men here in the UK. Very interesting. Your link gives information starting from 1974 — roughly the time when Margaret Thatcher became the leader of the Conservative Party. The pattern became pronounced in 1979 when Thatcher won, and it disappeared (men started voting more for the conservatives than women) in 2005. In 2005 if only women could vote, Labour would have lost the election instead of winning a third term. According to the chart from y…

Communication with like-minded people helps me a lot. This sub, in particular. Even when I don't post anything, don't comment, and only read, I feel I'm not alone. Realizing that many people have sane views on gender equality helps me feel better. And also the opposite tactics — avoiding anything related to gender inequality, feminism, violation of men's rights etc. Focusing on something else. Sometimes I apply the first tactic, sometimes the second one.

Very nice post. You should post it in LWMA, if you haven't done so yet. Yes, the mainstream progressives are hypocritical. They are extremely uncreative and follow rigid dogmas. All their elaborate writings are actually very superficial repeating of dogmas.

women not having to depend on men and men not having to take care of women benefits us all As a person who hates (modern) feminism, I can say that if feminism's rhetoric were similar to yours, I would probably not hate it. I hate feminism for being one-sided and hostile to men. If it weren't like that, I wouldn't hate it. I'm not against the pro-women part of feminism, I'm only against its anti-male part.

I was bullied by several girls in my teenage years. But I was bullied by boys as well. Bullying by other boys was often in the form of physical violence, so it was more dangerous. But bullying by girls was especially humiliating.

Maybe things like saying "nice ass" to a stranger. I think that some things are objectification technically, but they are not necessarily harmful — like browsing erotic pictures. On the other hand, there are harmful things that are often labeled as objectification though actually they aren't, for example: Inappropriate sexualization can be harmful, but it doesn't always amount to objectification (if a coworker treats you as a person most of the time, but sometimes makes inappropriate moves, they…

I find the very concept of objectification the way it is used now problematic and even disturbing. This concept makes sense when used in its genuine meaning — treating a person as a mere sexual object. But this word has been heavily overused and now it is often applied just to describe a male attraction to a female person when appearance is an important factor or even any attraction to a female stranger. Sometimes it goes as far as condemning men's thoughts and urges. I try to avoid this word, b…

If women held traditional gender roles while being okay with fulfilling traditional gender roles, and giving men traditional male advantages, then I'd be fine with it. I would not be fine with it because I see the male traditional role as a burden, not as an advantage.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of people, including most feminists and those who say they promote gender equality, hold sexist traditional views on gender. It's so hard for many people to accept that men may be vulnerable and need protection. The traditional attitude that women must be protected and men can't be vulnerable and/or shouldn't complain is a large obstacle to gender equality, especially when it's promoted by large powerful organizations such as the Council of Europe, and especially…

Maybe, for a lot of men, conservatism looks like an ideology that cares about them, while liberalism is associated with anti-male sentiment. Conservatism says to men: you should be stronger, more masculine, more ambitious, more disciplined, take more effort, and you'll be rewarded (you'll become successful, women will like you more etc.). While it actually often makes things even worse, it looks like caring, it gives men hope. At the same time, mainstream liberalism doesn't even try to look like…

It makes me sad to see sexist generalizations about women in this sub, especially when they are upvoted. Not only because sexism in itself is a bad thing, but also because it contributes to the bad reputation of MRA communities. If we want to be taken seriously, we should be intolerant of sexism and misogyny. Sexism and misogyny contribute to the gender war and opposition between men and women. That's not what we need. We need cooperation and mutual understanding. I agree with you, OP.

I asked it to clarify what you had been banned for. I get upset when I see misogynistic or sexist comments in MRA communities, but I don't think your comment was misogynistic or sexist. You didn't say that most women do it or all women do it. You said "it's a well known trick" which means you didn't say anything about the share of women who do it or how often this happens. I see why the mod might think your comment was sexist. If LWMA mods are especially careful about misogyny in comments, I thi…

I try to pay attention to sexist generalizations, especially against women in MRA communities, which is the thing that often makes me sad, but this time I think it wasn't a generalization. He didn't say "women enjoy attention but pretend to hate it". Thank you for your reply, it's been helpful. I saved screenshots. Keep in mind I believe in equality and acceptance of men and women away from gender roles, but feminism has only freed women from their role but didn't do so for men. I think it freed women only partially. If men were freed too, it would make freeing women faster and more complete. Women's and men's gender roles are closely connected and intertwined, and I don't think it's possible to completely free women without freeing men. I w…

Not all porn is misogynistic. Most is not, I would say. I agree that the porn industry as a whole is problematic in many ways, but equating porn to misogyny is an exaggeration. There are, for example, plenty of amateur porn videos, where people film themselves having sex. There's nothing misogynistic about such videos.

Thank you for being supportive. I appreciate your response. I don't object to such interpretations of objectification where women are actually treated in a degrading manner. But often this concept is expanded to things that make me feel there's something wrong with my sexual desire as such. For example: "Porn objectifies women, it portrays them as objects of male desire" (which makes me think there's something wrong about the fact I desire women) "Sexualization of female breasts is harmful to wo…

Why femininity and masculinity? Why not women and men? There are bad men and there are bad women. Femininity and masculinity are models of behaviour. Why should we add anything toxic to these models? We shouldn't, because if masculinity is not associated with something toxic, there'll be less toxic men.

When people say I'm wrong and I don't understand, sometimes I start questioning my cognitive abilities or even doubt my own sanity. women are masters in projection, they are projecting their experiences from their own choices on you. So look at their actions, they love guys who only care about sex These generalizations seem pretty sexist. Not all women are like that. And I don't think the majority of women are like that.
