hopefully Wow, sounds like you are winning the long game which is my focus now with a child. I am pretty well-researched but no expert here, but did pick up a few key points in that I need to not give up too much early on, and keep a level playing field with the initial agreement. I will likely shell out more money and agree to an unfair spousal support for the first few year(s) but I am not sure I'll sign if it's less than 50/50 without a special provision (say a few months until he's two etc.)…

Good advice, typically this is my role in the relationship. Thanks

We are not using attorneys just a mediator. I am going to consult one once we get closer to finalizing of course. I don't have the highest net worth or assets. About $100k or so no home.

Happened to me. I’ve got a 1 year old now and she flipped hard. She had traits of jealousy, possessiveness, self entitlement before but as soon as we had my son it 100x. She even cut my family out more less - always using excuses like “I need more time” etc. She’s constantly comparing me to other men and insulting my ability to provide. Mine is definitely cranking up her control because now she has the ultimate leverage - a child.

What ended up happening? Does it matter if the LLC was formed prior to marriage?

I was going to type 'get out' but I will hit you with two scenarios. My good friend was exactly like you and I was exactly the opposite before kids. Meaning I was madly in love. Once we had kids life 180'd for both of us. - My spouse turned into a score-keeping, petty, 'you never do enough for me', controlling partner who I resent. I can't stand to be around her anymore sadly... - His spouse who was "boring" became desirable as she was easy going and life is so hectic once you have young kids. I…

How long has the discussion been going on? I also am much happier alone but have a young son so it’s not black & white. I’ve been told 3x by certain dates we could mediate if X wasn’t improving but it never happens. Even lined up a mediator with papers to be told “she needed to find them”…I hope that’s not you but I can tell you what starts to happen is you feel entrapped and controlled. The marriage deteriorates and you hold so much resentment. For me, even the lawyers told me I need to try to …

I think it’s the pregnancy. Literally the same issue. 10 years together, 2 years trying finally have baby and not happy. “I wasn’t there for her” when I’ve literally been here trying listening to her requests and dealing with her painting me as a terrible partner because I work from home and want to be involved in my sons life. I did learn through therapy it’s not my fault though. Look up narcissist as well. Mind boggling I agree. These women act like life is so hard with their first world probl…

I feel you. I just heard back from a consult that it would be subtracted from the retainer but I’m also scared of the fees. $5k rolling retainer and not even an estimate. My stbxw is not open to mediation and seems to think I’m her minion so I’m shitting bricks. The inaction and financial stress is taking its toll. I already paid $1k in consults tho cuz I’m in an expensive area….I also am happy to know clearly I can’t mediate I guess cuz I’m not throwing that out anymore it’s lawyer up only. Shi…

How did you know she had BPD? It’s super confusing to me. Anyhow, not to be spiritual here but I personally have started viewing this as a test. If one is able to keep his composure and hold his head high when the outside world is conned, to me that is the definition of a good soul. As someone who wants harmony and cares about people it F*d with me at first, but I now think of Jesus. And no I’m not particularly religious. From a moral perspective only a good soul can endure this shit and know in…

It's common, but I am realizing the narrative and storytelling increases as time goes on. And yeah I think women put way more effort into the narrative and gossip. I am seeing family fold around me right now as well. My father in law came in last Thursday (uninvited by me) and he day 1 he planned to "straighten his daughter out". By day 3 on Xmas morning, he pulls me outside to "talk to me like a man" and begins unloading on me how everything is my fault and I am solely responsible, not acting l…

Sorry to hear man...I feel really similar to this scenario especially when you say "open to working it out, but she has no accountability" and how nothing typically was wrong such as cheating, etc. but the emotional/mental abuse and her being constantly unsatisfied with basic life..... I'll DM you back here shortly, thanks for sharing. So bizarre to me, my wife as well it is the game of "we need to communicate" but really its only ever one-sided. Also, the "leader" and "being a man" dynamic is w…

Thank you, can I ask you - do you regret sticking it out until he was 5? Or do you wish you had started earlier? Reason: these years are so precious and he develops each day, building more bond etc.

You sound kind of similar to my situation (you can read my post if you want). Although mine differs a bit as we never had a break or another person. However, my wife is very controlling and jealous like this. I saw it before the baby and wrote it off but now with the baby it’s amplified. She definitely reads my texts and is always knowing what I’m doing somehow and I resent her. On the flip side my family lives 20 min away and the only time they’ve seen my 6 month year old is Tues when she’s at …

Hmm, no I haven’t heard of bpd actually I thought that was short for bipolar and her father has bipolar (he says it started after his divorce). Fortunately she doesn’t try to self harm and she is not impulsive but the other traits match. I asked if she could get a blood test etc to see if they could help if she has something off balance but she gets angry.

Thanks, very wise contribution. Sorry to hear you also lived this. We used to truly love each other but we are so different now and I also feel she loved me because I did what she wanted and now I’m not accepting it. I can’t discuss my concerns because they fall to deaf ears, hence why I feel divorce is inevitable. I know in my heart she will not change, I would have to and accept her which I fully resent. The relationship is lopsided I would have to accept that but my concerns will not be heard…

Appreciate it, I honestly did feel like it was a semi cure…because I felt if I’m not getting badgered everyday or fighting one day I can hear myself think and build the old me (optimist) back. When I’m around her it’s negative energy only, when I’m alone or w dog, baby, colleagues I’m content. I don’t know if I have depression but I do feel unhappy. My expectations of parenthood as so far off so I’m unhappy. Also like I said I can’t explain what it’s like to be provoked, have your family bashed,…

Sorry to hear too…I never expected my life as a new dad to feel like this. That little guy makes me so happy but around her it’s constant misery. She provokes me everyday and literally hates my mom now…. Appreciate the advice on finances. This year she actually will net more money than me (first year ever) but I’ve got more money in the bank/markets. We just rent and don’t have assets aside from vehicles. That said, I want to take care of them financially I’m just scared it will be more than I c…

Yeah that’s an action I need to take. She said her therapist said she has PPD and she’s losing hair, body change is visible. But literally next day says she doesn’t and I gaslighting her. And it’s her body so don’t ask anymore…to me she fully changed but still these were issues before the baby, now they’re just 100x amplified… thanks

Appreciate the book tip, honestly this is why I’m not open to going anymore. Our therapist would give me homework every session, and I didn’t have the energy to relive past petty arguments by the time it was booked. At a certain point I’m just like “you’re always asking for me to change and do things” which I would do for awhile but revert as it wasn’t in my nature….meanwhile I asked for one thing - stop being controlling and it was always chalked up to “her personality” or “my fault”….
