Maybe you’re taking this Mr Hyde personality shift too far. You can still have this side of you while remaining authentic and not feel like your acting. Why not view it like code switching? You surely adjust how you talk depending on the occasion and company, but you never feel like that’s acting right? Sometimes you need to go to the extremes to find out what point you should reel it into. Perhaps you should attempt finding the perfect nexus of your normal self and your fun party person.

You have finesse it. You can't outright ask someone to tell you about themselves, because they won't know where to start and how to not come off as self involved. You can start by asking about what they do with their time off, what they did that weekend, how their week is going, etc. As you get a picture of them, little by little you get more tidbits that you can ask questions about. You can cheat at this. Look up their Facebook or ask a mutual friend what their interests are. Then bring those u…

r/MFA is cool, but I highly recommend having someone at a higher end store pick out your outfit, they normally know what they're doing, and you can get instant feedback. I believed you when you said that, but it's silly. If you've got that much karma you're doing something right, so it would be a shame to have your account history gone. I just thought people wanted to see the outfit so they could emulate it, I didn't realize they wanted proof of my story.

No, I wouldn't rather say that, because nobody I know in real life understands what reddit is. I'd rather have $10. Don't delete your account, I don't want that. Here's the proof you asked for anyways. http://imgur.com/hDXalfk

Well it seems a bit silly for me to make up a story for internet points. How about you put your money where your mouth is and bet me $10 paypal instead? I'll even throw in a photo of me with the Japanese girls.

How would that help? The point is to dress unlike you usually do, not necessarily how I did. Go shopping at a store you've never stepped into because it didn't feel "you".

I get where you're coming from. You're a confident guy and that comes naturally to you, but being as it is, it may be hard for you to connect with people who aren't as confident. You might not understand why I have to dress differently to disassociate myself from how I'm accustomed to behaving. I'm so used to a social mindset and an ingrained shyness, that I need a push sometimes to come out of my shell. That can come in the form of having friends who are very social and I end up modeling them. …

Sometimes you need something physical to make you feel confident. You seem to get your confidence by putting others down on the internet, raising your self esteem temporarily, thinking "hey, at least I'm not as socially awkward as these guys". That might work for you, but it's a very negative way to go about it. You might try posting a positive critique instead. Maybe about how I don't need to use a mask, and I should gain some inner confidence. That would not only affect others positively, but …

I agree, it's totally a role. However to get into this role and feel comfortable I need the aid of a mask. Otherwise I can't quite get myself into that role without feeling massive anxiety and feeling self conscious. You pose a good point about your role being influenced by others around you. That's why I went out alone. I feel as though my friend's expectations of me maintaining my regular quiet role would influence me negatively.

I completely agree about it being a part of my persona, Stikine. It's still me, but having a radical physical change, a mask, makes it a hundred times easier to get into this role of confidence. It's my crutch for now, but I feel that the more I use it, the less I'll end up needing it.

Exactly, you're the same person. Just a more confident version of yourself. It's not like we're going to give a fake name or lie about anything. We'll just have changed from our usual role.

It's definitely my way of getting into the zone, but that doesn't mean it's not a mask also, right?

Sounds like you're pretty well rounded already. Skydiving is cool and you can eventually get into BASE jumping and wing suits.
