I've learned an invaluable amount of lessons from this divorce. It has completely changed the kind of partner I want to be and how I act towards others. By no means was the divorce entirely my fault, but I built up so many unrealistic expectations for my ex-wife and created so much resentment from the way I treated her. It was a "don't know what you got until it's gone" situation for me. Sometimes those lessons are learned the hard way, and at least I can walk away knowing I won't repeat those s…

Married 7 months, together 8 years. Sucks that so many good memories are gone in an instant, but I know others here have it much harder with longer marriages. Learned a lot though and won’t make the same mistakes in the future.

This is honestly the best, albeit simplest advice I’ve seen on this subreddit. This type of “tool” exemplifies the “one day at a time” mindset to carry us all forward. One day at a time is achieved by conquering one moment at a time, and this is the kind of thing that gets you through a shitty moment and makes the rest of your day so much better.

Point 2 is what I’m struggling with. How do you get past that background noise of being single and lonely all the time? I have great friends and family that I spend a lot of time with, and I try to stay busy as much as possible doing activities I enjoy. I have good days and bad, but even in the happiest times I am constantly clouded with thoughts of being single, missing my ex, and general loneliness. I don’t see any way to get past that and it puts up so many walls trying to get into another re…

Can’t Hurt Me was the first book I read following her decision to go through with the divorce. Incredible book and I love Goggins even if some people find him cheesy. It has definitely made me more accountable for my actions and I often find myself reflecting on how I think he would act in any given situation. Not to mention, that book single handedly motivated me to ride my first 112 mile bike race and get as fit as I’ve ever been. Im definitely doing everything I can to better myself in my rel…

Thanks man, no worries you didn’t offend me at all. I agree with everything you’ve said. Unfortunately I was just blind to it all until it was too late and now I have a hard lesson to learn. I certainly haven’t given up on women though, and I think a lot of men need to take a good look in the mirror and recognize their own faults rather than play the blame game.

You’re absolutely right, and I acknowledge all of that. I know what I did was wrong. I know I was a child and took advantage of what I thought I could never lose. I’m not asking for another reminder of how much I fucked up. I’m asking for advice on how to get over it and move on from her. I’m in therapy working on myself and doing my best to change as a person in every way possible. I hate who I was and I’m doing everything I can to never make those same mistakes again. I don’t blame her for the…

Ohio is a one-party consent state, so I'm good on that front. I'm only planning on using it if her family or AP's wife don't believe it is going on.

We both wanted to get married. Or so I thought. I found a poem written to him dated 2 months after our wedding... So yeah I have no idea why she went through with the marriage if she was cheating.

This is my exact plan. What's a VAR?

I was the one who would constantly nag her about chores, what she wore, what we did in our free time, etc. I would build up a bunch of crazy fantasy expectations in my head of who she was and how she needed to act with me. I would get angry once she didn't meet those expectations. You name it, I tried to control it. I'm not proud of how I acted with her, but I've recognized it and know where I need to work on myself in the future.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
