I was assigned lifetime alimony, in IL. Lasted 5 years, then filed to dismiss due to cohabitation and won that judgement.

I was on the assuming end of a mortgage assumption. Here is what I can tell you; they are harder to qualify for than a standard refinance more hurdles to jump, more documentation. Mine took almost 10 months of back and forth even after the initial forms are signed, which is sounds like where she would be if you signed. Does she have the credit score and income to assume? If not let her work at it and be denied. I also refinanced when you did and when looking at options a refi was tripling my cur…

If you are in agreement, write up an Agreement in Principle that outlines all the decisions to be made and their resolution. I did this prior to hiring a lawyer. We only hired one lawyer, and had them follow the agreement exactly as we had written it out. Even with all that I had to watch out for the lawyer trying to incite bias into the actual marriage settlement agreement, but we both would instruct her on what should have been correct. All in my divorce was <$3,500 for the lawyer / court cost…
