Altruism and self-sacrifice are different beasts. What I'm talking about is different. If you meet a girl, think she's cute - and instantly want to do everything you can for her, pay for her drinks, become highly emotive - it doesn't look attractive or strong. It looks unbalanced, and you don't look like a strong-willed person. If a girl acts like that to me, it just seems like work - it's not a male/female thing - it's what is attractive in an individual. How can you know what someone is about,…

This is easily misinterpretable. Thinking of yourself first is the best thing you can do - think of two sets of people, those where you know their priorities are themselves, and those whose priorities are ambiguous. No one puts other people ahead of themselves - I'm not talking about running into a burning house to save a baby - I mean on a day to day. Your relationships, job, hobbies - they are for you, primarily. It's easy to forget that you should be looking out for yourself first when confro…

Read. Read books on interpersonal skills, communication, body language, negotiation. Don't ever stop learning. Don't think that reading is the end all be all - go, talk to people, do stupid things, learn from your mistakes, make more, learn from those. Keep visualizing the person you want to be. Read Mindset. Read Crucial Conversations. Read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Care and worry about yourself first, and other people a close second. Don't ever apologize, and don't ever feel the nee…

This is all a problem of seeing being "in control" as the goal - which is a lot of the problem I see with this subreddit in general. How to be detached - how to not give a fuck - how to approach. But this all ignores the over encompassing point - that when you start working on yourself as a person, making yourself a really worthwhile person to talk to, to be around - you don't need to know how to do these things. They just happen. You no longer have anything to prove, and there's a psychological…

You only think no woman has never flirted with you. Can you not admit you are probably a poor judge of that? At least judging by the fact that your opinion of how to improve runs counter to everyone who has, in fact, improved? Stop thinking you're right. You're not. You're wrong. And that's ok. You'll be wrong about a lot of stuff. That's how you can be less wrong in the future.

Well, here's the thing. If you tell a girl that story about going to a strip club, it would surprise the hell out of her. She would think "wow, sounds like he can hang." If the chick thinks you're a perv, she's probably a terrible human being, and you can move on to the next person. No one else matters, but you. If you think it's a good story, fuck it. It's a good story. And if what you are getting out of that story is that screwthat4u is a perv or he strikes out, that says more about you. To me…

No, it's not. Don't try to be funny. You need to enjoy failure to be funny, and you do not enjoy failure. You fear it. Funny isn't going to do it for you. You probably don't want a chick who is particularly funny either. Or friends. You probably want someone to just have intelligent conversations with. That's fine. That's your niche. Don't try to fake it.

"Confidence is what you THINK, not reality." Perception is reality. This isn't your truth yet. It's because you've given up. You still care what people think about you. It's a downward spiral. You think you are "x," other people think you are "x." It has nothing to do with confidence; if you're confident, people will think you're confident. They won't necessarily like you. But if you like yourself, then people will like you. You don't like yourself. That's the problem.

"I don't want to wind up acting obnoxious or saying and doing stupid things because of drugs or alcohol." Stop thinking this. First of all, who cares what anyone thinks. Say whatever you want, no one else really matters. When you get past that people like you a whole lot more. Second, try drugs. Really. Or booze. Something. You obviously are incapable of empathy, but it seems like it's stemming from the inability to see things differently than the way you "know" they are. Drugs or booze can help…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
