Might be different in your state, but be careful with a lag between filing and informing her. Dissolution petitions in many states (if not all) are public record. Divorce attorneys will often send marketing materials to the counterparty after the petition is filed.

Having been in your shoes, I can say with 100% confidence that it will start to get better the minute you separate. It will still suck, but it will suck infinitely less than what you’re doing now. Take some time to rediscover who you are, because it can be a mind fuck once you’re free of that cloud hanging over your head.

Dude, same situation. Together 12, married 7 and have a 3yo. Difference is she was stealing from “us” as opposed to outside family. My advice, don’t walk away. F’ing RUN! You will probably feel guilt, like you are giving up on the nuclear family dynamic, etc., but those behavior patterns generally don’t go away. And if they do, it’s short lived. I hung on way too long and I regret it. Hopefully she puts her big girl pants on and changes for her own sake, but that’s not your problem.

Was in the same situation. Look for privately owned homes or condos to rent. Private owners are generally more willing to work with you and will consider the circumstances more than a corporate owned property.

Best advice right there. Keep things civil for the sake of your children, but do not set a precedent you are not comfortable living with long term. My divorce (still ongoing) started off amicably. 10 days ago she filed an emergency motion alleging drug use, mental instability, etc. All lies, but it didn’t stop the court from ordering her temporary full custody due to the seriousness of the allegations.
