It's important to understand, and internalize, that the only person you need permission from is the woman herself and the only way to get that permission is by talking to her. So just talking to a woman is absolutely within your rights in exactly the same way its within her rights to shoot you down (or not). Hopefully she does it nicely, but either way, you move on politely when it happens. That's it, that's the full social contract and it only involves two people. If you feel the need to consul…

Anyone who is under financial control of an abusive partner should build a secret escape fund.

I don't get along well with people who strongly identify with a single party or wing. The world is complex, and if you just fall in line with a monolithic ideology, then it means you haven't really thought through every important issue and formed your own opinion. If you've thought it through, then I don't mind if you disagree with me on any particular topic, in fact I prefer it because I can learn something from you. But if you just delegate reason to one hive mind or another, then there's noth…

There's too much fraternizing with the enemy to call it zero sum.

This is my best effort at explaining it based on that: First, a haplotype is a group of genes in an organism that was inherited together from a single parent. A mutation will only change a small part of the haplotype. The remaining parts will be more similar to one parent or the other and this similarity can be used to assign a parent of origin. Assuming that's all correct, the one thing I wasn't able to figure out is why three generations are needed instead of just two. This bit: leveraging hap…

How do they attribute DNMs specifically to mother vs father? If it's a mutation then doesn't that mean it doesn't match either parent? I don't get it. I'm not challenging the paper just hoping someone can ELI5 me

I don't think this paper establishes a relationship between paternal age and risk of ASD. If you look at the graph in figure 2 the effect is pretty weak to begin with. Referencing u/PikaPikaDude elsewhere in this thread: For fathers, it's also not zero at 18. Increase is more linear constant, but not as fast. Twice the risk of an 18yo isn't even reached at 60 there. Then from the paper itself: In analyses stratified by co-parental age, increased risk due to advancing paternal age was evident onl…

Isn't the physical strength difference between men and women a direct result of men's disposability? The weaker and smaller males were disposed of by war and other forms of competition. They had fewer children compared to the stronger males. Men get a genetic upgrade relative to average human strength because they couldn't survive without it.

Can I get a source on prostate cancer being the biggest killer of men? I would have assumed war, accidents, lung cancer or heart disease.

The legal concept is "imputed income" if you want to Google it. Yeah, a judge could decide you could potentially make $35K but this is still pretty small compared to $100K so it would likely reduce the child support paid to you assuming 50/50 custody. (You may also be eligible for alimony BTW). Regarding your daughter: my advice is to try to get what you truly think is best for her. If you think 50/50 custody is right then you should try to get it. If you think weekends is better for her then go…

Yes. It is based on income and potential income, needs of the child, and not on mom vs. dad. A lawyer can help you understand the trade-offs. Is she actually asking for child support? Maybe you can just work out an agreement that doesn't break you and also takes the needs of your child into account.

Get a lawyer for sure., if you split custody 50/50 then she should be paying you child support.

Even if your accounts and finances are separate you can still bring them together in mint.com to get a big picture view of what's going on
