Strongly agreed. I think the part of the article about stages of loneliness nail it. It's a constant struggle where it's very easy to become jaded and angry at the very people whose attention you want.

I feel like the the fact that your immediate reaction to a post saying "a lot of women feel alone and rejected" is looking for a list of characteristics that might make her unattractive says a lot about this subreddit's problems. Like... everything she says in the article seems true and believable to me. Yeah, a lot of men out there will be users, and I don't think it's misandry to call it out. Yes, women can be users and men can easily be invisible, and yes, she's ignoring those facts, because …

Also what kind of psycho would cry about loneliness to their date? (Ok, one man did this to me once, but obviously I never saw him again because red flag) ... Geraldine, is that you? JK. I did do that once though, with a girl I'd just slept with We met again a few times, so obviously she wasn't too put off, but in retrospect it was kind of awkward.

To steelman what the other guy said, "benefit" is a bit of a stretch. If I meet a girl and she's afraid to argue with me or show me her true personality because she thinks I might be violent, I'm not benefiting from the actions of violent men because I don't consider "girl I'm with shuts down and avoids conflict at all cost" to be a beneficial outcome. And if the girl never accepted to meet me in the first place because she's afraid I might be an abuser, then the actions of abusers are costing m…

... yeah, I'd be put off if a girl started like that. I mean, I'd still answer because I'm desperate, but she'd go into the "probably needy and abusive" category for me. Seriously, playing up negative stereotypes of your gender for humor in online dating is a terrible ideas. Women in particular are expecting people to be harassers by default, and you don't want to pattern-match to that, even for a joke.

Look, I get what you're saying, but the fundamental thing is, it just doesn't work out that way for lots of men. I say that as a guy who goes to a lot of parties these days. The reason why it doesn't work is controversial, but in the end, for some men getting laid is as easy as being a decent person and listening to women, and other men can do everything right and still get ignored.

I have had sex and I tend to agree with the post. Like, I can live without it, my life is survivable and all, but man is it rough sometimes. And I remember the periods after I had sex too. It didn't solve all my problems, I wasn't a different person afterwards l, but man there was this pressure off my shoulders and it felt really great to be rid of it for a while. And yeah, it was more complicated than sex, there was some amount of intimacy and validation that was part of it. The actual PIV part…

That's the kind of reaction bitter people have that perpetuates itself. Kind of like ultrafeminist women treating their dates like they're abusers in hiding until the guy loses patience, blows up at her, then she feels comforted he was an abuser all along. For the anecdote, one girl started with "Hey" on Bumble, I answered with "Hi", and we went on to have one of the most fulfilling conversations I ever had from a dating site. Ultimately it didn't work out (which I guess undercuts my point a lit…

You're really going out of your way to try to dismiss the personal experience of a random stranger of the internet. TPPD in a nutshell, I guess.

I mean, I wish the women I met out there had high libido and were the type to make the first step and be proactive in their dating habits, so I guess we'll both have to resign ourselves to being outliers =P More seriously though, I don't know. Obviously there are exceptions (eg my roommate has a fairly low libido). And I can only make assumptions from my own experience, plus some of the evidence I see. (and yeah, male libido is a bit of "accumulates, keeps increasing, then gets all spent at once…

tl;dr For most men sex is extremely important, and they never ever stop wanting sex even if they wish they did.

Oh yeah that one comes back often too. Really creepy. A little depressing too. "You can't possibly care about personality because in my worldview all women are shallow!"

To be fair, I think a lot of people lean more towards "Why can't average men have lots of casual sex with average women?", which is definitely a real phenomenon.

I'm really not into TRP stuff, but... no, yeah, he's absolutely right. There's a reason "send a honeypot at him" is the single most effective tactic of any intelligence agency. Like, you can learn to live with it and you are strongly conditioned by society to never show outwards signs of your sex drive... But for most men sex is just not something you can accept to live without forever. You gotta keep trying.

when I said I already had a relationship, they went from absurdly flattering to calling me every horrible name in the book and wishing I'd get cancer or raped. Pretty typical stuff, no biggie. =(

This might get a little meta, but feminists aren't a hivemind either. There's lots of them with different opinions and sometimes they even disagree on things. Also just because feminists do bad things really doesn't justify painting all women with the same brush.

To be fair, there other women-centric answers on this thread with positive feedback, but to be just as fair, these answers aren't the ones with most upvotes.

"Can you share examples of double standards you experienced?" Woman shares her experience. "No, you don't understand, you were supposed to share double standards against men. Go away, you slut." (although OP was asking in good faith, but others on this thread definitely aren't)

if i were single and didn’t want children, i still would date them and would be open to marrying an ugly man; but i want beautiful children, so i couldn’t be with one long-term. Wait, you're saying you didn't want to marry him because you thought he had bad genetics? That's... uh... you're free to choose who you have kids with and all that, but that sounds really cynical. You're still essentially saying that a guy's dating life will ultimately be determined by his looks and personality isn't eno…

For those of us who have worked to become better, and to become successful with women, we absolutely cannot respect people who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter. I think a lot of the rhetoric around this thread is shitty and toxic (I mean, welcome to the sub, amirite?), but this bit is pure gold. Like... I make so much effort to understand how marginalized people feel, whether they're harassed women or LGBT or overweight or a different ethnicity, and I do think this is an ef…

As the stereotypes go, people on the right are arrogant and callous, people on the left are naive and don't know what they're talking about.

Never accept the world as it appears to be. Dare to see it for what it could be. Seriously, people are all different. Even if most men were selfish and most women were selfish, that doesn't mean you have to be selfish, or accept to date a jerk.

Wow. Another reason I need to play Skyrim; I had no idea such a profound message was in the game. Ha! I wouldn't get my hopes up. This is maybe one line of dialogue that you have to go out of your way to find. The average quality of Elder Scrolls games is... well, not abysmal, but I wouldn't call them "deep". And I was thinking more "When you've been a bigot before, you understand how bigots think", but sure.

Yup. Also, don't use your authority to hide your insecurity. Don't be afraid to be in a situation where you kids prove you wrong or win an argument; when that happens, try to be graceful about it. Parents who create this dynamic of "We both know you're right, but I'm your dad and you're going to RESPECT ME and shut up anyway" are the worst, and they train their kids to distrust and resent authority.

You might want to go over to r/relationships; read questions from other people struggling with similar problems, see their perspective, and ask for advice on your own situation. see, half the worry is it happening and me not knowing people cheat and don't tell their partner all the time - it could be happening now and i have no idea. Yeah, I have nothing. It could be the case, and it sucks that you have no way to be sure without getting into unhealthy habits. The best I can tell give you is this…

For what it's worth, don't get demoralized if your efforts have no apparent effects. When people are arguing on the internet (especially in heated arguments between people with low self-awareness), they don't want to look like they're convinced by the arguments of the other party, because it makes them look weak. But sometimes your arguments still have a tiny effects, where it shifts the other person's priors a little bit; seed of truth and all that. More generally, don't make it an ideological …

In Skyrim there's that dragon that tells you at some point "Is it better to have been born good, or to turned away from evil first?", implying the second is better. And yeah, this is pretty similar. Being bigoted is never a good thing, but turning away from bigotry gives you a perspective that a lot of people lack.

It does sound like you're a big mess emotionally; that's the kind of thing that makes relationships bumpier. Really I have this fantasy in my head. In many ways I "want" her to do something wrong - I want her to give me a reason to be angry. Because I know if she gets back normally then I have no justification for my feelings - but I will still feel them and therefore I'm in the wrong. Yeah, I'm familiar with that feeling (though not in a relationship). That feeling where you have a negative per…
