As a few below have mentioned, the easiness of victim mentality is also a huge influence. But what is not mentioned by those comments is how we allow it. People would not try to play victims if they didn't think you were susceptible. Sociopaths don't try their game on people who don't fall for it. Two schools of thought. You can practice things outside of the activity, or you can just do more of the activity.
