I was talking in regards to crime / std / nuclear family and values... not saying it was a cake walk for them. I really do feel sorry for those who had to endure those atrocious conditions but my point here is in regards to cultural deterioration. Its kinda the same in my country... there was far less degeneracy during the military dictatorship and because of that, crime rates were much, much lower (brazil btw).
