Hey man. we’re here for you! You’ve-got lots of life left, get the divorce done and when you come out the other-side, consider joining the “rent life” when it comes to women.

You’re going to be just fine. I wish I took the route you did most days. Good luck. You got this man

What's wrong with you? Uhhhh you're investing a lot of energy into a woman who might literally give 0 fucks about you and many fucks for other men. Burn this relationship with fire. At 44 you still have a lot of life left. Don't perpetuate this any longer.

Thanks. I agree, they need to be spoken to like young adults at some point, and probably more regularly now that they're older. I definitely have always played the long game. I don't want to be the resented father for being too strict, having unrealistic expectations, or any of that. I want to put it all on the table early on what's required to live with me as their dad and what I think is good for them for the future and reinforce those. Lots of good stuff here. Thanks.

You're right, and we do, do this. I typically set a budget and we walk around the mall. They get super goofy and gritty together it seems like more bonding for them as sisters, but it is neat to be a part of that. We could equally do this without a budget and just a plan for lunch. Thanks for your insight

Oh hell yeah. This is a great suggestion. Great point, my 15 year old although still a child by age, is really not far from being an adult. This helps reframe some of my thinking especially with her in mind. Split that in half, and truly the time I have left is really limited. I'll be honest, sometimes it's hard to break through that barrier of dad/kid talk. It's easy when there's an event, like she's staying at a friend's house.. I always give her the "make good decisions", safe sex shpeel, don…

It definitely helps, thanks. I feel at times they are simply content with me or them being a wallflower, or just sitting with me in the living room. Oh yes, I have a lot of expectations, and constantly nag. That's my biggest thing is trying to reshape some of the bad habits they inherit from their bio mom. I like your idea of reinforcing the expectations, once that basic blocking and tackling is done (clean room, making good decisions, picking up after yourself) we can enjoy the fun stuff. I thi…

Oh hello internet stranger. I'm actually not inactive, I just only see my kids every othee weekend. We camp, swim and ride bikes here in Florida regularly and my son loves it. If you could read, you'd recognize this post is about my daughter's, not son. Thank you for the suggestions.

Wow. These are all amazing ideas. Thank you. They both love cooking and baking. I will definitely see if I can find something local like that, sounds like a blast. Camper project sounds super cool!!!! That sounds like a lot of fun. I like to tinker, and they like decorating. Would be cool to take it out camping with them afterwards. Thank you for sharing

Thanks, this is great. Between your comnent and another it enticed some good ideas. I am always talking about college, military, or joining the workforce when their adults. Some of the vacations I had thought of for this summer were unique(houseboats, themed, etc) Airbnb stays around college towns. I really want to take them to San Diego where I grew up now that they're all older too, but covid has me on the fence with flying anywhere.

Nice, thanks! This gives me some good ideas. My girlfriend and I had planned to take the kids to visit colleges this summer- maybe see some performing arts, college eSports teams, and just tour the campuses in general. I'm thinking maybe we can spend some of the weekend planning those trips. Booking for the Airbnb, travel dates, etc. Thanks man

I like this... As much as I feel I'm embarrassing them when their friends are around, I do think they appreciate it when I am more light hearted and involve them and their friends. Definitely want to be the host-house. I try to be, and typically it works out pretty well, because I can keep an eye on them and know they're not getting into too much trouble in our neighborhood.

Thank you. This is definitely the handbook I need. Garden has been on the list, and we're in Florida, so it's already going to be getting warm soon. They do get into projects once I get them started. Maybe letting them pick out seeds/starters would be cool for them and getting them to help me put up the flower bed. There's a lot of great stuff here. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you.. this a great tip. I have some errands to run this weekend. Trying to keep the kids as healthy as possible, but maybe throwing them in the car isn't a bad idea. Some of my best talks with my oldest are when we are looking straight ahead at the road.

Unpopular opinion: Maybe try pot instead. It got me through my divorce. And I still use it on-demand. It's not just for degenerates.. I'm a director who works 7-7 everyday and partakes when I need to detach and relax. Helps me sleep like a baby without the side effects of alcohol. It's probably one of the single greatest natural tools out there. Same thing though, use it in-demand and in moderation.

Nice man. Sounds like you've already got great self awareness and you're on the right track. Take good care of yourself.

Hey internet stranger.. I was right there with you. That feeling of alone is pretty strange isn't it? Don't mask it or push it away. Try to embrace it and recognize it and create a response plan for it. It's a gap in time that was previously filled with someone else maybe dictating how to spend that time. So guess what, now you get to choose what to do with it. Do something positive for yourself or that loyal furball of yours. Take the dog to the dog park, go to an outdoor fair/art fest, volunte…

There's nothing to answer here. Hope you're alright man. It's one of the hardest things I've ever had to deal with. Take it slow, be easy on yourself. Develop some atomic habits and take it day by day

Agree with you here.. She just presented this front that we would focus on what's best for the kids regardless of differences. All bullshit as far as I can tell. So I agree, this is the way.

Consider this... The most important person in your narrative should be you. You may look at these moments as you missing out on one of many Halloween's with them, but next time you get that feeling, consider how you could divert that energy from missing them to something productive. Like working on something for yourself. I go on runs, learn a new skill, and consistently try to be the best version of myself. In result, I've lost 40 pounds, met someone amazing, and have grown personally and profe…
