I think that in this matter there is a big overlap of interests between women and the ruling class: they feel entiteled to be "protected" by males. While I see the ruling classe's reason for this, the possible loss of their power, I don't see what especially women are afraid of (please don't mention "rape"!). Don't forget that most young men do not have the financial means or connections to simply leave without return, which by now would be the best thing to do for them.
