Biggest i’ve ran into so far is my ex wanting to FaceTime me when our son is having a meltdown. He is 10 years old and has been struggling with the separation and divorce proceedings and while I’m always there to support my son, she relies on me to calm him down over FaceTimeinstead of her parenting herself.

I feel like this is the year my stbx is going to have. Realizing the consequences of her actions an all that’s she’s lost

I have come to realize that my wife is a dismissive avoidant. I wish I would have known sooner, but here we are. Definitely will have to be on the lookout when I seek another relationship because these people are the worst. She has BPD too so it’s even worst

Hey OP, my wife did basically this exact same thing. It’s so hard. Mine only been a month and a half or so and I still want to believe she loves me somewhere in there. She’s “trying to figure it out” which means there is another guy, obviously, which I already know about. Doesn’t change the fact that my life was ripped away from me. I know I have to accept and move on, I’m working on it. I have good days and I have bad days.

I feel this way about my wife sometimes. I don’t even recognize her sometimes

Cheating does make you a bad person if you continue to do it. People make mistakes, but choosing to continue to do it does make you a bad person.

Honestly man this is pretty normal. One partner may have a higher drive and it seems that’s you. You’re extremely lucky she’s still willing to work this out. If I were you I’d get into therapy, figure out a way to be happy in your relationship. I get that people like what they like, but relationships are about commitment and compromise and it takes a mature adult to do those. You are honestly coming off a bit immature in several ways

I’m trying to do this now. I’m 40, in okay shape but starting to exercise again and trying the dating apps but having no success. Probably need to find some tips to make my profile more appealing. All the pictures I have of myself are close up because I had to crop my wife out of them.

I don’t think phone companies store records. You could see what numbers were text but not the content (at lease on t mobile)

My wife is trying to get me to keep our home so my so. Doesn’t have to move schools. I told her sure, but she needed to sacrifice the 85k in equity she would get. She didn’t like that idea. She’s been trying to control and dictate things since I gave her divorce papers

I haven’t filed yet, she’s reviewing the paperwork because we are gonna do an uncontested. I miss he every day, every moment. I just want to hold her hand and kiss her too. For me it’s only been a month of separation, which I know is still soooo early. We were together for 18 years and I know it will take a lot of time to recover. I just struggle to see my life without her

Appreciate the insight. I feel similarly that I don’t want to be a tele-parent and she needs to handle behavior herself, outside of extreme cases. I’m always willing to take a call to discuss and also talk to my son to reaffirm that he is to follow the rules and expectations that we have set down (we both agree on expectations and consequences).

It’s brand new, it will be 50/50, that’s what we’ve been working with during the separation,

Literally my situation right now. “Oh he’s just a friend, you don’t have to worry, I love you and come home to you” Never would I of thought she would cheat, but here we are. OP don’t assume your wife isn’t capable of cheating if she’s unhappy with you

All you can do is respect her stance and start working on yourself. I am at this stage now and have been trying to stop thinking my wife will want to reconcile. It’s over, time to start a new chapter. Lean into yourself with the same energy you are leaning into her.

We are here for you man. I haven’t filed for divorce yet, will soon, but I’m riding the emotional waves right now. Sitting at the house alone waiting for my son to get home from school is so hard

My wife and are about to officially separate today. I’m moving back into the house (have been at a friends for 3 weeks) and I’m not leaving again. I miss my home and my son to much. She cheated on me and even though I want to work things out she doesn’t “know if she can do it” so that’s fine, get out of the house and let me start moving in with my life and building my son and I to be more strong. I miss her every day and I’m sure smelling her around the house will be hard at first. Luckily I hav…

That sounds like it’s likely, that or someone else giving her advice. I don’t really know what an attorney would just tell her to take half the money out without serving papers. That sounds more like a friend or something gave her advice, i dont know though

I’m sorry you’re going through that. Have you guys sought therapy/counseling to help? If she has taken the money and is ready trying to divide assets I would definitely look into getting some legal advice.

Yes a lawyer would be better. A mediator is basically just a referee to try and keep things civil and work to mutual agreement. Was this just out of the blue or have you been having problems? Have either of you actually filed for divorce? Do you have kids, own a home, ect? If so I would definitely look into at the very least seek a free divorce consultation.

I feel the “let me in on it” situation. My wife of 18 years has apparently been harboring past issues that I thought (because she said so) were moved past but didn’t have the courage to bring it up because “it was hard” and now our marriage is in severe jeopardy due to her cheating on me
/r/Divorce_Men10/11/24 12:26 PM

You’re role in any healthy relationship, regardless of its layers/boundries, is to be the best you that you be and remove these insecurities. Keep working on you and stay true to your morals and ethics and the right person will find you (not saying that won’t take some searching on your part too). Understanding that different people will have different views on what a relationship looks like and being open to communicating your wants/needs in a healthy way and being able to actively listen and v…

As others have said. You are good enough the way you are. It’s good to strive to be better, knowing we are all imperfect and desire to be better than you were year after year. Keep working at it and you will always be moving forward, that’s all that matters

I have always struggled to make meaningful connections myself and im 40 now. I recently am going through a really tough time and I’ve realized that I have much more support then I ever thought but I always considered myself to really only have 1 TRUE friend, a guy I’ve known for 35 years. I don’t think it’s abnormal to be this way. I rely on my one person but also I’m learning to lean on the others as well. I think my situation will actually help me form a more meaningful connection with some of…

Hey all. I’m struggling these past few weeks. Wife and I separated on the 28th because of an affair I had 10 years ago that she told me she had gotten over (to where she could trust me again and we could move on building the marriage) but it turns out when she stopped going to therapy in 2020 due to COVID the internal work she did stopped. She admits that she didn’t want to address it because it was hard and it has festered/became cancerous to our marriage. I wish I had known, we could have done…
