Hey all. I gave my wife (who cheated on me and wanted a separation, details are in other posts) divorce papers on Sunday to review, it’s going to be uncontested, we don’t have a lot to worry about.

What I am worried about is co-parenting with her and what my role in that looks like when my 10-year-old son is in her care. Her and I have always agreed on rules and consequences and we’re both pretty consistent with our parenting style. The problem I’m having is she wants to call me anytime that he is misbehaving and having a meltdown. While I am happy to take those calls so long as I am able and help to try and calm him down and reinforce our rules and consequences I cannot be there to solve the problems for her. She has chosen this and her choices have consequences and while I want the best for my son, I cannot be the same parent over FaceTime that I could be if I was present.

During the times that he spends with me, I expect that I will have to deal with his meltdowns and behavioral problems myself. I feel like that this is how coparenting goes, but I don’t know so that’s why I’m asking.

What are some coparenting tips to make sure that I am fulfilling my end of the bargain and not doing more than I should be and enabling her to not take responsibility?
