Sounds almost exactly like the only first date f close I've ever had. Just replace dinner with a party. Congrats!

I'm the earlier poster and I'm in a band. Chuckled to myself pretty hard.

As someone dating a girl that has been described by people as being a hipster I can confirm the things you say in this post. Especially the bit about not changing yourself. She and I had a lengthy conversation just yesterday in which she asked me to explain the ideological and sonic differences between black metal and grindcore even though she has almost no interest whatsoever in that music personally.

Yep. I've noticed that when people are unsure of how to feel about me, it helps to more-or-less communicate how they should feel with body language.

I'd say my sense of humor is pretty deadpan. Just crack a smile when you say stuff. Works for me every time.

This is more appropriate for r/sex.

It's hard to remember exactly what she said as I was a little inebriated myself at this point. She basically just made a few jokes about being a starving artist. The next day she thanked me for giving her "a few moments respite from the grandma fucker." I was going to ask why she called the guy that, but I figured that would make for a better IRL conversation. She said he had terrible pickup lines, so I imagine it has something to do with that.

Hahaha. You remind me a lot of me. I play bass in a prog metal band, have long hair, do drugs, and turned 21 in January. Your friend is right, man. The rest of your life is only going to be as good as you make it. Last year I lost the girl I thought was the one (lived together for 2.5 years, had joint finances, essentially married) and it really wrecked my self-esteem and worldview. One day I just came to the realization that the only person who is going to make me happy is me. I had only been w…

If you give them no reason to view you as feminine, they won't. I have a cat (hell, it's even a female cat!), and I've never had women question my masculinity. They frequently compliment me on how smart, affectionate, well-cared for, etc. she is, and I think they view her status as a parallel to what my attention can do for them. If you care about the dog and it has brought nothing but positivity to your life, definitely keep it around! There's no reason to be insecure about that.

Ah. Well in that case, it just means you are doing things right. That means you got the girls attracted to you without coming off as a try-hard. I'd say just keep doing what you're doing. If there are any girls who you are curious about just pursue and see what happens.

You'll get the hang of it. I was in your position about six months ago. Not knowing any of the nuances of how to get with girls. Practice makes perfect. If you have any friends that are really good with women, pick their brains constantly. They should be more than willing to help you out.

I can't help you there, man. I've never really pursued women in that setting. Maybe a light, more playful sort of kiss, and if she takes it well, ask her if she'd like to go elsewhere? That's all I can think of.

Whenever I'm hanging out with a girl and there's an awkward lapse in conversation, but she looks antsy, that's when I usually go for it. You just sort of look into their eyes and you can tell they just want you to do it. It hasn't failed yet. Confidence is the key.

Just tell her she's putting up a front to now show her insecurities. Act like she isn't impressing you with that attitude. You have to turn the tables on her by making her qualify for your attention instead of the other way around. She could totally get pissed and never talk to you again, but that'll at least be funny to be a part of.

Just act like you don't even give a fuck and don't put yourself in a position to impress anybody. No one will think you're vulnerable if you just play it safe today. Also, is your hair long enough to put up?

You just have to avoid looking goofy. Almost more of a smirk, but not too pretentious. Just always looks like you're satisfied with who you are.

I don't go with scarves. Just my personal preference. Hit up your local thrift stores. That's where I picked up the majority of my nicer threads. Easy on the wallet and the compliments will roll in like crazy.

I typically go with a sport coat, band shirt, and slacks. Sometimes jeans, but only if they go with the coat. I wouldn't go with skinny jeans. I prefer my pants to be a bit tight, but not too much. I just feel that baggy pants give off an "I don't care how I look" vibe. Which, I suppose, could work in your favor if you played it right. I just don't look good in them.

Perhaps you could invest in a pet? It could help fill that time void AND potentially net you more encounters with women.

The redditor above me is correct. I have a full beard that's a few inches long which (from my experience) most women find to be unattractive, and despite that I manage to get chicks. It's all about confidence in yourself!

I just keep telling myself that there will always be other women. Mostly because there will always be other women!

This guy is correct. It's all about the context in which you do those things. From what you've described, you probably shouldn't have that difficult of a time meeting women. It really could just be the age thing. I was a similar way in high school, and I didn't get laid til I was a Junior.

It's really all about context, and (potentially) the frequency with which you go out of your way for women. If you're always holding doors for women AND carrying yourself with a wimpy attitude all the time, you'll be perseved as a wimp. It'll be viewed as, "He's not doing that because he wants to do it. He's doing it because he feels it's expected of him." From my experience, the best approach is to always hold doors, open car doors, etc., but treat women in conversation like they aren't any dif…
