My partner completely understood that after meeting online I googled him to check he was who he said he was and messaged my friend/mother to tell them where I was going to be and who with. He was glad I was cautious with my safety and had no issue with me checking him out because he hadn’t lied. He wasn’t concerned I told people where I would be because he had good intentions. He didn’t take it personally because he knew it wasn’t personal, it’s what I would have done no matter who the date was …

I watched it a couple of years ago, it was basically a filmed version of nearly every story I’ve ever heard about open relationships/a hall pass/a threesome. The man thinks he will have to date three women a day to keep up but in reality no one is interested and the woman is inundated with offers. The man thinks the threesome will be him and the second woman who will be all over him. In reality the woman is more interested in the wife or he can’t find a woman to do it at all. In some cases I’ve …

Thank you, it’s one of the things that made me fall in love with him. He’s had a lot of comments about how he talks about me and stuff from men but it doesn’t stop him. He also loves it when men are the same and are nice to/about their wives when talking to him, he says you can tell the people who actually like and love each other. I just don’t understand the mentality of men like this, I would never stay in a relationship if I felt I had to go out/work late at every opportunity just so I didn’t…

My (male) partner works in a male dominated industry and has worked in around 5 companies within that industry. Wherever he’s worked most of the men are married or in long-term relationship. They all go out drinking on Fridays, sometimes during the week, they talk about plans to go out with friends, play sports etc and a couple of places there has been a few guys who go out for ‘one drink’ straight after work every night. My partner is always invited and, unless it’s a special occasion like a bi…

His eyes are so sad and droopy and his teeth look like they’re made of bits of sink... He thinks he looks fine to be in the public eye though! To be honest I’ve never considered the attractiveness of a singer before I buy their song or album anyway so I never understood his weird fascination with people’s looks. It just made him appear spiteful but I assume he thought it made him edgy or funny. Or maybe he wanted us to feel sorry for the contestant and call to vote for them and buy their album, …

Exactly! As I said in my post the first time I noticed anything creepy happening to me I was 8 and a man who worked at my school tried to molest me. Now if I were lying, what has that achieved for me? There’s no financial gain, I haven’t named him so it’s not revenge on a man I don’t like, I haven’t named the school or said what they did about it so it isn’t revenge on a school I hate, you don’t know who I am so I’m not getting any support/sympathy/allowances made for me. What would be the purpo…

I was 8 when a man who worked at my school tried to touch me and kiss me and 11 the first time I was followed by a man in his car while in school uniform who wanted to know ‘how much you charge’. There were smaller incidents in between. Most women I know have similar stories of being harassed from 8-14 for the first time. I read a post on a different forum ages ago about a woman who noticed her 9 year old being stared at by old men, her husband didn’t believe her. She said to take the daughter o…

If a man didn’t understand why I didn’t want him in my home/wasn’t going to go to his home/wouldn’t get in his car etc on a first date, I wouldn’t date him. Not every man is a rapist or a killer or whatever but unfortunately the ones that are don’t label themselves and good men understand that. More importantly if they like you they should be happy you protect yourself!

My partner can do anything he wants to - he can look at porn, ogle other women, go to strip clubs and he can say sexual things about other women in front of me. And then he will be single so he can do it as much as he wants.

I think that’s how it works out the majority of time. I definitely wouldn’t date a guy in an ‘open relationship’ (which seems to be about 85% of men on tinder according to their profiles...). I’m glad it worked out well for you, you sound strong and funny and kind.

It’s very common to see things online/people seeking advice/articles about men who have asked for open relationships and then becoming unhappy either when the women starts looking, by the amount of people interested in her compared to him or when the woman gets into a good side relationship. It was only a little while ago I saw one of those articles like ‘what really happens when you open your relationship’ and it was basically 25 times men asked to open a relationship and regretted it almost in…

They don’t want anything serious until the women they date also don’t want anything serious. They don’t like it if the women also message/text other guys, keep their OLD profiles active/date other guys/don’t want to see them all the time etc.

Exactly! I could write out a list of what would make up my ideal man and you could be like ‘girl seriously, he sounds awful’. Women do not share one mind and we all want different things. It starts so young. When he punches her next week it’ll be ‘because he likes you’. Funny how then people don’t seem to understand how so many women are in physically and sexually abusive relationships and don’t leave because they love him etc. Little girls are literally told that harassment, sexual abuse and violence is what boys do when they like them.

A lot of men think high value literally means high value. Like when people google things like ‘how much is Bill Gates worth’ etc. When really high value means different things to different women. What makes a man high value to me may not be what you’re looking for example. Men see it more like women want X, X and X in a man.

He obviously has money if he’s out with his friends all the time but even if he ha zero money, you don’t need money to make someone feel special. There are so many ways he could’ve celebrated her birthday that wouldn’t have cost anything at all and even more than would’ve cost hardly anything. If someone cares about you they find a way to let you know regardless of circumstances.

You’re absolutely right the lack of sex isn’t the problem it’s the symptom. In another forum I visit I saw a post (and have seen many posts which are similar) where a man says basically this; We’ve been together 10 years, we have 4 kids, I help with the kids when I can, I do 50% of the housework and we don’t have sex. I’ve tried buying her flowers and lingerie, I’ve tried spicing things up and talking to her but it hasn’t helped, shall I have an affair. Help with the kids? You do 50% of the hous…

I’m sorry you went through that. I went through something similar and had to move hundreds of miles from my home to escape. He always had a ‘reason’ to be abusive. For example if he started an argument and I defended myself I’d be beaten for answering back, if I agreed with him I’d be beaten for not being better, if I didn’t answer either way I’d be beaten for not talking to him about it. I’d be hit if his toast took too long but also hit if it wasn’t dark enough. There was literally no way to a…

If she stops ‘using her brilliant mouth’ he will find another ‘reason’ to hit her. Home is untidy, dinner not cooked, she looked at him funny, she ignored him, she flirted, he was stressed, he was drunk, he’s depressed. There’s always ‘a reason’ to treat someone badly when you WANT to treat them badly.

I feel like he doesn’t know any women... plenty of single women, housewives, lesbian couples, women with lazy male partners etc who do all the stuff themselves. My partner works and I study so I’m home more so if I want to ‘redesign’ the home a little I just do it by myself. I’ve moved beds, fridge/freezers, the sofa, everything. ‘Moving furniture’ isn’t even on the list of things I want my partner in my life for.

I’m not saying the shows I watch are great, I’m just saying watching other people date can be really helpful. I definitely agree they’re trashy tv but being able to watch people date is really helpful. You can see what the LVM/W do and what the HVM/W do and it can make it easier to see where your own behaviour falls and how to adjust it and also how the behaviour of the people you’re dating falls and how to deal with it or not deal with it. For example: It’s easy to hear a man say something/behave a certain way and excuse it or try and find a way to overcome it if you like him and then when you see some…

Yep! My ex was always negative about my ambitions and achievements. The man I’m with now actively encouraged me to quit the career I hated, set up a business and is supporting me through law school. He’s always talking to people about how well I am doing and telling them and me how proud of me he is. He often talks about the day I’ll be able to get a job I want and he can’t wait for the day he can tell everyone I earn double what he does because of how hard I’ve worked. The difference is amazing…

Ridiculous, men know tampons exist and if his friend had a wife and kids he’s likely had MUCH more to do with a woman’s bodily functions than seeing a box of unused tampons. I keep my tampons in a convenient place for me, that’s my only consideration when I decide where they go. I’ve seen and heard numerous similar things though including men who won’t buy tampons and even worse a man who wouldn’t let his wife put tampons in the trolley when they went shopping and made her go into a shop alone t…

Gross. I could never be with a man who was weird about my period. My boyfriend gets me painkillers, chocolate, tampons, massages my back, does stuff for me if I’m in pain. He has woken up in the middle of the night and helped me change the bedsheets - or more likely does it himself while I clean up - if I unexpectedly get my period or it’s very heavy. He carries my tampons in his pockets if I don’t want to carry a bag and generally looks after me. He’s not squeamish about blood, my used tampons,…

I’m disgusted but not surprised. A man I worked with ended his marriage because his wife cheated on him, or as the jury saw it, was raped. I’ve also seen articles and social media posts similar to this where men have ended relationships/been jealous/hit their partner for cheating when in reality she was sexually harassed, sexually assaulted or raped.

I’m glad it has become so well known, I think because it’s a term coined from a film, it wasn’t taken seriously at first like ‘oh well it’s fiction though’ so I’m glad people using it so much more has made it ‘a thing’ because being able to name a behaviour helps the people who are victims of it to make sense of it and not think ‘is it just me’.

Women fought hard (and still do) for shelters for other women, men are able to do the same for other men.
