Really good point here. Hits home for me. I feel that the divorce has made we always wonder when the next shoe will drop.. I try hard not let that affect decision making and living my life but I’d be lying if said it doesn’t completely change my outlook on a lot of stuff..

I’m sorry brother, stay strong. By your post you already have a good handle on what needs to be done, continue your path forward - it does get better on the other side!

The fact that she would do this 2 days after purchasing a home is ridiculous and evil.

Women will grow up to be their mother. I should have known when I heard her mom state several times she woulda already divorced her step dad if she didn’t have to give him half her money. Additionally, I now realize she never told me how she really felt, ever. We’d “talk” and I figured had mutual understanding on things. But deep deep down, her actual feelings were kept silent until it was too much. I look back and don’t understand how I didn’t see some of these things, I can spot it a mile away…

To be honest I still haven’t made sense of it and I’m at peace with that, you have to be ok never getting all the answers. Sure, we had issues like any relationship but nothing I thought wouldn’t brought on divorce. The truth is, most people just don’t care to try any more, any sign of resistance or discomfort is met with quitting or leaving. I believe in karma and I think all that were wronged will eventually get what is due to them. Godspeed my friend.

This right here. I too likely left some money on the table, albeit it was a little different situation. The money was likely not gonna be worth it given the time and cost it woulda taken to fight for it. Learn from this, move on, strive to earn more money and go chase excellence. Tomorrow is a new day.

Imagine you’re on island alone, the only one can save yourself is you. Unfortunately for men, no one will come to save you. You have to fight for no one else except yourself. One day at a time, 1 hour at a time. It will pass, but you have to put in the work daily. Keep getting exercise and taking care of your body. The basics like drinking water and getting enough rest are crucial. You got this brother, in order to see the light you gotta go through the darkness first.

The tale as old as time, my EX did the same thing. It will suck badly for a while, but it’s important to note this pain will pass and there is light at the end of the tunnel, but only if you make it out the other side. Stay the course and take it 1 day at a time. Godspeed

I hear you, sounds like you’re doing all the right things, it will come in time! Be easy on yourself, you’ve been through a lot. Make sure you’re happy being along before inviting someone else in. If you can’t be happy alone, you’re in bad company. God speed!

Your confidence doesn’t come from women, it comes from chasing excellence and being a great father. Continue to work hard, hit the gym, eat right and before you know it women will come in to your life. Go to the coffee shop and strike up conversations with the baristas. Chat up a cute waitress. Even if you’re not attracted to them it will get you back into the groove of talking to women and strangers in general, this will do wonders for you. Point is, live your life to the fullest and people wil…

Honestly I wouldn’t pay attention and or get off social media. I deleted FB and it was the best thing for me. You need to move forward, not back. For all practical purposes she should be “dead” to you. Don’t allowed her to rent out space in your head.

It’s time to start to get out of that mindset, you attract what you project. Start acting like you are the prize, hit the gym, eat better, start acting like you’re on top of the world. It begins and ends with you! You got this man, just have to change the way you think, it’s not easy but it gets easier when you start to build that self confidence again.

There’s no right or wrong way to feel, you just have to feel it. It sounds like you tried everything you could, so good on you for doing that. Many stories of women who don’t try and just give up or move on/cheat without notice - you didn’t. Stay focused at work, get into the gym, pickup some hold hobbies, reconnect with family and friends are a few of the basics around here. Take a good year or two off from dating and just really focus on yourself. You’ll probably learn more about yourself than…

As others have mentioned, put them away for now. Best not to make any decisions like this while you’re still going through it. You can always throw them away later if decide that’s best. I still have a few albums of pictures and such, and we didn’t have any kids to pass them down to. Give it some time, like a few years time, and then decide what’s right for you.

Your body weight is always there, start doing pushups, get some cheap elastic resistance bands, go for a walk. During my divorce, all the gyms were closed because of COVID, the local park was my gym and it gave me my appreciation of nature back. Point is, you can still do MANY things outside a gym to get healthier and leaner. Give it a shot!

Man, this hits home as it’s similar to my story. I didn’t lose my job but left a decent job to move closer to her family and then I also tried to obtain clients in my field on my own, which is competitive enough. I guess I didn’t get it rolling as quickly as she wanted.. Very few women will be supportive in times like these. Just know, no matter what happens, you will be ok. This too shall pass. What’s your living situation like? Do you own or rent? Have you discussed her mortgage or expenses when you might potentially move in? Have you discussed having her move into your place, if so, would she contribute to the expenses? There’s a lot to discuss. I’m in a similar situation but it’s my GF wanting to move in with me. I have the room and she would contribute finically as she has a child as well. The only difference if it doesn’t work out she is gone and I can still afford my place on my …

My ex bought me out of the house, I didn’t want it and used the buyout money to buy my own place. It was my first home purchase and for the first time in my life I felt I made it, worked hard for the down payment and put a lot of sweat into making it our own. Moving my belongings out on my own roughly a year later was probably the hardest part of my divorce. I was packing bags and she was banging the AP. Moving sucks as it is, but sobbing and wondering where the hell my life was going while fill…

Just trying to help, you can live life however you deem fit. You came here looking for advice so I offered mine - take it or leave it. You also mentioned you’re in your mid-twenties, which you’re not. You’re closer to 30 than 25. Yes, typically younger women are more immature which offers up a whole other set of potential issues. Are there exceptions? Sure, but that shouldn’t be new information to you. Never once mentioned dating older but finding someone you align with. Either way, you do you. …

They might be but the right person won’t. I wouldn’t focus so much on age, but rather finding someone you align with when it comes to lifestyle and core values. Be as picky as you want but remember it’s up to you with what you’re willing to settle for. Girls in the age range may also be more immature and more of a flight risk as well, ask me how I know.

Agree with what others have mentioned. Don’t rush into things, we have similar stories. Would you want to be with someone who would hold that against you in the long run? It’s not something I’d mention right off the bat but I wouldn’t hold it in forever either. My therapist framed it like this: you took a chance at love with someone and ultimately it didn’t work out, I think most sensible women can get behind that, it shows you were committed. If not, it’s on to the next

If it’s one you ordered then you should be ok. But if it’s hers, you definitely want your own. I was in a similar situation: big surprise, her appraisal was less. We took the average of the 2 and she bought me out a little less than what was owed because I just wanted it to be done and was emotionally and physically drained by that point. Emotions are not static, it’s normal to be happy one minute, and sad the next. What you have to keep telling yourself is that this is the new normal. So you have to ask yourself each time, should I stay in this state of sadness or push forward to create your own happiness? It’s not easy and everyone’s journey is different, hell, it even brings me sadness from time to time and I’ve been divorced for almost 4 years now. I feel you man, mine was engaged roughly 8 months after our divorce - there’s always someone else. At the time I was sad, but at the same time it gave me clarity. I blamed myself for a lot that wrong in our marriage, I made mistakes but I’m not a bad person - there was just someone else and I couldn’t nor would I want to compete with that. Take some time to feel emotion and go out and live life the best you can. Godspeed bro.

That’s a good start, but diet is just as important. I thought I needed “something” to help me as well. Turns out when I got my diet on track everything else fell into place. I could mention adequate sleep, hydration etc are all important as well.

As others have mentioned, could be psychological. Also, how’s your diet? Hows your workout routine? If you’re not in good shape, it will affect you in other areas of your life. You’d be amazed at what can happen by eating nutrient dense foods and eating cleaner. Get into the gym and fix your diet if needed, it’s all related. Good luck man!

I know it may not seem like you ever can again, and that’s ok. For me, trust in other women came from better trust in myself which I probably didn’t have the first time around. Trust that every day you’re working to be a better version of yourself. Trust that you won’t put up with BS and you’ll set boundaries in your next relationship. Trust that ultimately you’re the prize and any woman should be happy to be with you. Trust that no matter what happens, you’ll be OK because you’re not defined by…

Better to pay a little now than more down the road. It’s shitty and you didn’t deserve that, but like Roman stated, you dodged a bullet. I was divorced at 32 and thought the same, you have plenty of life left. Take some time for yourself and don’t worry about women for a while. Work on yourself and get back to some old hobbies. I’d say I’m roughly in a similar boat minus the age gap (36 here). I’m about 4 years out from my divorce but have been dating a wonderful woman for the past 2 years or so. In a sense she’s everything I’ve wanted or needed in a partner. Her baggage is that she does have a 8yr old girl who really is a good kid, and she’s a great mom. We have fun together and are on the same page on a lot of issues. I know there will be many here who would tell me not to get involved with a single mom, but we’re no…

But in the end none of us planned for this or had the tools to recognize what was actually happening - we only got those tools after it was too late. My EX made some excuse about her hands being too dry and it bothered her to wear it etc. This topic comes up for me from time to time and I just have to forgive myself that I didn’t know better. I hear you and I basically felt the same - divorced at 32. You need to quit thinking about what “others” will think and do what’s best for you and your mental/physical well being. This is not a “partner”, this is anxiety, yelling, and a total nightmare from what you described. It will sting a bit mentally and financially in the beginning, but you’ll be better on the other side. I feel ya brother. The last time I spoke to my ex wife was roughly 4 years ago. We were separated for about 2 months at the time and before she left the house on a visit, I asked if she still wanted to work this out and get to other side. She kissed me and said she did. 4 days later I got an email stating that she filed for divorce - “I’m myself again” as some of it read. Haven’t seen or spoken to her since… It’s a wild world, but as you stated - I’m happier and love myself more than I ever have…

If the topic is even up for discussion, it’s over - I’m sorry. But there’s a lot of good advice here from many warriors that have been through the storm, including myself. Don’t let your mind think that you should be with someone that doesn’t want to be with you. Start acting now and get your ducks in order. For me it was channeling all the anger and sadness in a healthy way. I always hit the gym, but I hit even harder and more seriously post divorce. I’m roughly 9% body fat and in the best shape of my life at 35. As others have mentioned, music, endorphins, blood flow - it all helps reduce stress. I have a six pack for the first time in my life and overall, the gym and exercise has been the best outlet for me.

I was there as well. You really have to dig deep, your body is in survival mode. Start by having a routine. Make the same thing every morning - I recommend eggs, wheat toast and some fruit. At the very least, you can at say you started your day with a solid meal - this sets the tone for the day. Then after breakfast you take a walk, get outside and be with nature for a bit. Deleted FB and scrubbed my IG with all our pictures, there wasn’t very many anyway. To each their own but deleting FB was one of the best things for me. Where I am now in life and 3 years removed from divorce, I keep in touch with the people that WANT to keep in touch with me, no more, no less. 90% of the people I was “friends” with, didn’t give a rats ass about me anyway - and this was made even more clear during my divorce.

My peace is that I’m now aware that my happiness/needs come first in any relationship. I think when you get to this point whether you’re dating someone or not, you have a sense that whatever happens, “I’ll be ok”. I’ve been dating someone pretty great for roughly 2 years, and I can say that it’s completely different and much healthier than my marriage. I don’t put up with any nonsense and she knows this. It is scary, but how about trying this: for every negative thought, trying thinking of a positive outcome from your divorce. Maybe it’s connecting with friends that you fell out of touch with. Maybe it’s picking up that old hobby that you haven’t had time for. Maybe it’s enjoying the freedom to do whatever you want and on your terms. It’s not easy, but you have to start to re-wire your brain in a sense. It easy to obsess about the negative, try to think of a few of the positives too!

Time for some tough love, and I know it’s hard to hear but it’s needed. This woman is now the enemy, she is a stranger to you. Nice story and very much agree! My therapist framed it well for me: there’s nothing to be ashamed of by being divorced, if nothing else it shows you tried to make it work with someone and took a chance, committed etc, even if it didn’t work out. Unfortunately not, sorry you’re here brother. You need to list the most important things to you and have your attorney focus on only those things. You’re gonna lose a bit, but what can you not bend on? I took a hit on a few things because the end result was that the money I woulda settled on woulda been less than what I had to pay the lawyer to go after it. It’s sucks but lawyers make it out best in divorces, remember that.

Yep, I was made to feel guilty when I hung out with friends, had plans of my own etc. Then when I tried to lean in, it slowly built resentment on her end, plus I stopped doing a lot of the things I loved to do - not even realizing what I was doing at the time. It was almost like an awaking several months after things were official. For those lessons, I am thankful.

I can only comment from my experience in MI. She wanted the house, I couldn’t afford it on my own nor did I want to live there. We each got an appraisal and took the average of both, divided by 2 against what we owed etc and settled on the buy out. In general each party has to agree on the equity that will be received/owed.

Great response, wish I read something like this before I went into the trenches.

This is a terrible take. We’re all here to support each other in this shitty nightmare that is divorce. Why do you think OP is bragging, generally curious? Is that he disclosed his income? Clearly you’d give different advice if he had said he made less money and had very little saved for retirement etc.. OP - I recommend therapy regardless of whether you think you need it. It can give perspective on a lot of what you went though, and how you reacted to certain situations etc. Also, pickup the bo…

That’s a great outlook to have, what do you do? I don’t make anything close to what your bringing in but I’m slowly investing and saving more where I can. I’ve also learned to enjoy my money more as well. For years I sacrificed things I wanted or places I wanted to go for her. Hello new motorcycle and mountain bike!

Couldn’t agree more, I honestly don’t understand it. Very few marriages reconcile, it’s almost like they want you to get into with your STBX so that they can make more money off you.

Good for you on the business! Mind sharing what you’re getting into? It’s important that we celebrate the positives as well!

“A woman who won’t take your name in marriage, will gladly take your house in a divorce” Damn, that one hit home. Spot on. I guess the thing that surprised me the most (at the time), was the complete 180 she did as a person, and how she treated me in the process. Maybe I was naive or maybe it’s the way I was raised - to always be true yourself. She gave 0 fucks about the 11 years we spent together. It was a hard but needed dose of reality - never again.

This is really well written and 100% accurate. Don’t ever let another person destroy you. Fight for yourself each and every day. “Today, better than yesterday, tomorrow better than today”

I wish I read this before my divorce. Especially the part about going after everything. I still made out pretty well all things considered but I could have gotten more, I think I was so emotionally drained I just wanted to be done with it but that’s actually when you need to be the strongest. Easier said than done but yea, wish I got the grey sectional instead of the “old” couch..

Haha, cruiser will be next for me. I always liked riding track days so I went with a sport bike after I came outta retirement - best choice I’ve made in a long time! Cheers to you and better gas mileage! Lol

+1 for the motorcycle. Picked up a Ducati 3 months after things were official. Safe riding! 🤙🏼

Like others have mentioned, you need to be happy with yourself first. Forget the women for a split second and focus on yourself and your mental and physical health. Start picking up old hobbies or sports again. Join a gym or a local club, travel, go out to eat by yourself, start conversations with women (and men) while in public. You’d be amazed at the people you can meet and the conversations you’ll have. Self confidence is one of the most attractive traits you can have - get out there and enjo…

I appreciate your perspective, however I don’t know how you can break a promise to someone that was once everything to you. I guess some people don’t take their vows as seriously as some. Either way I appreciate your response.

This is the part I struggle with because my ex was such a good person, basically up until the end. She made good money, hardworking, caring etc. She wasn’t perfect, didn’t do much around the house, but I could live with that. She left me, so it has me thinking about how small and insignificant I am, I don’t know if that makes any sense. I guess it would be easier for me if she was crazy B and went off the deep end, I could understand it a bit more. I also struggle with the thought that she may h…

My ex bought me out of the house and owed me $XX,750. When I received the check from the title company it was for $XX, 570. Mind you her mom is a multi-millionaire. Not very funny, but it did make me chuckle at the time. I just shook my head.

I did the same thing, I kept mine on until about a month before things were final, I just felt naked without it. Do whatever you feel comfortable with, don’t worry what others think. My ex on the other hand took hers off the minute she moved out, but also during the time she said she had every intention of working things out. When I asked why she didn’t have them on she said she had eczema, and then the next time it was because she was getting a massage, all lies of course. Just seems like women…

Good on you man, keep it up! I am also lighter than my ex, I’m in the best shape of my life and haven’t been this lean since high school, I’m 32. Now I just gotta continue to eat well so that I can maintain this post divorce revenge bod lol.

Yea exactly, I know I wasn’t perfect but I never cheated, never abusive, made her dinner every night and coffee and breakfast every morning. Quit a good paying job and moved half across the state so she could be closer to family. All these things for her happiness, not mine. That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned, I will never put my happiness in the arms of anyone else but myself. But like you said, I was willing to work on it, I would have done whatever what was needed, she checked out and cou…

My issue is she made me feel like everything was my fault, literally everything. My rational mind knows that it wasn’t just me, we mainly had communication issues which was mainly her problem, but I accept some accountability there as well. But man, it’s hard not to obsess over every little mistake I made or something I said. Woulda shoulda coulda..she seemed to be calling all the shots in the end, never even got to say goodbye to her or my dog. My mind is my own worst enemy most days. Sucks..

Man, thank you for this. I really needed to hear this. This type of lifestyle is exactly what I think me ex went through. I just wasn’t exciting for her anymore, not worth the challenge or the “chase”. I vowed my life to be with her and her only, and she decided to walk out simply stating “I’m happier now, I’m myself again”..really!? You couldn’t be yourself for 11 years?

My ex did this as well. I was never good enough even though I did everything around the house, cooked dinner for her every night, got her coffee every morning etc. It was never good enough, but I was the lazy one with no ambition etc..whatever.

Thank you, I needed to hear that. And I agree, especially with your last sentence. I recently saw a picture of my ex on social media of her at wedding that we had planned to go to several month ago. It looks like she has gained some weight and generally looks sad in the pictures. I on the other hand have lost roughly 30 pounds, continue to go to therapy and will be closing on a condo soon. I don’t wish her any ill will, I really don’t, if I did I would still be holding on to something which woul…

Thank you, it’s been a long and difficult road. From a 2600 sq foot home to back to my Dad’s place until the dust settles. I’m antsy to get outta here and move on. There are still days I miss what we had but reading your post as well as other’s stories has shown me that I’m not alone on this journey, we’re all one in the same nightmare together. This isn’t how I envisioned my life and my future but it’s outta my control, only thing I can do is push forward and start taking care of myself. I hope…

I am on one as well and I hate taking pills but I had to do what needed to be done to survive. I wasn’t eating or taking care of myself like I should be. I’m on a very low dosage but it has helped me. I would recommend getting in a low dosage for a few weeks to see how you feel and adjust accordingly. I am now sleeping and eating better.
