By a modern lens, yes. People who have no choice but to fight are victims of an oppressive system. In the past, such was not the attitude of the time. Not fighting in defense of your home was seen as shameful/cowardly. "Consent" was not as important a value as "duty" back then. And that attitude hasn't fully left. Look at how critically people viewed the Afghanistan troops when the US tried to train them against the Taliban before pulling out.

Historically, men of fighting age had little choice in whether they went to war or not. They were drafted, conscripted and forced to fight. As the result, highlighting the deaths of women and children during wartime was typically done to highlight that non-combatants had been killed (what today we would call civilian casualties). A long time ago that often meant an undefended village or settlement had been raided. In modern days it often means a civilian area was targeted in a strike. In some cu…

100% agree. I spent a lot of time in the Manosphere either observing or trying to deradicalize men in more hateful groups. And for the majority of cases, dating woes and loneliness were the main reasons those men gravitated to those influencers or built resentment towards women. Bringing this up, however is met with significant hostility from feminists. I've been called a pick me, a man masquerading as a woman, a chauvanist, etc for sharing what I believe could help combat misogyny. And there's …

I'd like to drop this excellent article from a trans woman on the subject: I Am A Transwoman. I Am In The Closet. I Am Not Coming Out. | by Jennifer Coates | Medium It is interesting to see where people insist proximity to a subject makes one informed, and where they insist it makes them biased. It is interesting that they think it’s their call to make... I hate that the only effective response I can give to “boys are shit” is “well I’m not a boy.”

If they did, I'm sorry that happened to you. What a bunch of losers.

Nick Fuentes is the one who first said it on X and all the Groypers started spreading it. It received 90 million views and 35k retweets so that's why it blew up on social media in general. They are obviously a minority of men and I suspect a lot of others who aren't Nick's fans just started saying it to be trolls. But Nick doesn't need any help for his posts to go viral.

I think in US politics, it's common for young men to be grouped as "combatants". The idea that there are men who are just regular civilians being killed goes against common political talking points. And it goes against people's "just world" fallacy (the idea is that combatants deserve to be attacked). That's why countries often offer refugee status to women and children but not to men. There are elderly men, young adults, Christian minorities, the disabled and just regular, non-combatant men who…

It reminds me of the recent post about Elizabeth Bathory. She's the most successful female serial killer in history. And yet some people have attempted to paint her as a victim. She became compared to victims of the Salem witch trials and sympathized with as some sort of girl boss who was wrongfully maligned by a court of men. In reality, the only claim to cast doubt upon her guilt was a book written 200 years after her death, filled with already disproven falsehoods. It mentioned that the Crown…

Exactly. The first comment I posted entirely missed the point. She thought the author was saying we can't criticize men because we may not know that some of them are actually closeted trans women. That's not what the author said at all. She said that we shouldn't be vitriolic towards men, period.

First one was the abortion thread, second one was the anti-sex crosspost.

If my friend says "I was abused as a child and it really affected me" I'm not going to start cross-examining them and demanding they prove beyond a reasonable doubt that their trauma is real and they were abused, because that would be asinine. Instead, I offer them support and sympathy and thank them for opening up to me about something so difficult. Also, I'm pretty convinced that Casey Anthony killed Kaylee even if she wasn't found guilty in court. I still don't think she should be imprisoned,…

Okay, then don't talk about removing abortion access for women and then women's issues don't have to be brought up on this sub.

On AITA I was called a "Pick me" for supporting paper abortions. Along with another woman. This commenter was making fun of us like "you still haven't been picked yet?" And that's when I realized how similar to slut shaming it is. It's like a socially acceptable, "feminist" version of dismissing anything a woman says because you're calling her desperate for male attention. I don't even want kids, supporting paper abortions has no direct impact on my life, positive or negative. That's the point, …

There's steps to alleviate the problem. Crack down on dating apps intentionally sabotaging consumers, as a violation of their advertised service. Everyone knows they do it, first to encourage a paid subscription and then to keep people coming back. Second, address bias in family courts. And bring back the option for at-fault divorce. No-fault can still be an option for those who desire it but make it possible to hold someone accountable for infidelity and abuse again. Eliminate alimony. If someo…

Well I was attacked in front of a crowd of people and none of them helped me, even when I screamed until I was choked out. Not even the bouncer. I ended up fighting him off on my own but that it definitely does happen that people don't help others (regardless) when they are in danger.

I agree! But the feminist subreddit doesn't allow posts from non-feminists so I'm not going to break their rules.

I got called a "Pick me" because me and another woman were discussing our support of paper abortions. Why would I, a child-free woman, support paper abortions to get a man to like me? It becomes used in a way that is very similar to slut-shaming because it makes it easy to ignore what someone's core argument is and instead try to dismiss everything they say as vapid desperation for male approval. As though "desperate woman" as a stereotype hasn't also been a form of sexism lol.

Well, of course. In their mind, "helping men" means helping them treat women better. That men could have issues that impact them directly, or can even be perpetuated by women is a foreign concept to many.

How is it denying women agency? I don't think the discourse of online feminism has anything innately to do with how men and women are capable of interacting in the real world. Additionally, a large number of respondants on that post were male feminists.

I go to both feminist and men's rights spaces because I advocate for both men and women's rights. I wouldn't come on here and expect to center my experiences as a woman either, so I go to the appropriate spaces for each. It's just that when I saw that they were criticizing how men discuss their experiences, I felt it was representative of a major issue with how men's spaces are perceived and how men are invalidated in greater society. You can find the post useless and that's valid but not all of…

Remember when one of the power mods from there was so triggered that this sub was created he would come here and post racist and misogynistic things to troll and then say he was just trying to fit in with us? I do lol. Not a single person here said some of the vile stuff about women he did but somehow his antics were supposed to prove what an ally he is with feminism. They are performative at best.

There is no data to evidence how many accusations are false, or how much rape is under-reported. There are definitely estimates. The FBI puts it at about 8%. Most place it somewhere between 2-10 percent. But regardless, we also do have research on the people most likely to make false rape accusations. For one, many false rape accusations are reported by someone other than the victim. This is more common in teenagers, who get pregnant young or or even were late for a curfew. The parent is the one…

I think it's telling that when women internalize ideas that are considered harmful or detrimental it's referred to as "internalized misogyny" but when men internalize ideas that are considered harmful or detrimental it's called "toxic masculinity". For equality, it should follow that it's called "internalized misandry" or alternatively "toxic femininity" but for some reason it's not despite both terms supposedly describing the same phenomena. I think the idea behind it is perfectly valid. Someti…

This is a topic I genuinely don't have an answer to. In criminal justice we talk all the time about the effects of fatherless households. And when it pertains to gang intervention specifically there is a lot of discussion about having positive male role models in the community who can serve as an example to young men. While part of me questions whether it's the inclusion of a man specifically (take a two parent lesbian household for instance) or just the need for a stable upbringing with two pos…

It is interesting but the sampling is hardly generalizable to all men in relationships. Though I do agree that it's not surprising men don't feel as actively desired considering that they are expected to be the pursuers and women aren't often encouraged to compliment men or focus on seducing them or making them feel wanted.

I tried to find the study that found that 88% of men in relationships are not sexually satisfied but couldn't find it. I found this one that studied people in their 40s to 70s but it didn't have that finding that I could tell: https://newsinfo.iu.edu/news/page/normal/18996.html What study was it? Did it study specifically sexual satisfaction or perception of desirability?
