My parents were married nearly 40 years when my mother died. My dad did a irrevocable trust before he married again. The big driver of that is the fact that my dad had most of his retirement in a pension but my mom had all of her retirement in 401k and IRA. He felt it was incredibly wrong for a new wife to benefit from my mom's labor. The RMDs stay inside the trust. They're living on the combined SS and his pension, so he really doesn't need it. If it isn't ok to charge different rates for differences in accident rates for different races, then it shouldn't be for gender. Discrimination based on a class you're in by no action of your own is bad regardless of the class.
