Okay, so people are right about blaming society. What's your point?
/r/PurplePillDebate03/08/23 08:00 PM

Did you imply that personal problems can't really be caused by society?
/r/PurplePillDebate03/08/23 07:53 PM

Slavery is a real problem.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/08/23 07:43 PM

Sometimes the problem really is society, slavery, for example.

Find a happy couple and suggest they break up and stay single forever. What do you think their reaction will be? Oh my god, no, my life is so much better with my wife in it, you're terrible!
/r/AllPillDebate03/08/23 07:20 PM

Embrace self-respect? I already did that. I've been doing that for years, and it didn't get me the things you claim it does.

but you also understand the work doesn’t just stop, it’s a constant thing. Yup, but I've literally been at it for decades. I didn't just try once and give up immediately. It still hasn't work. I do what you advice will work, and it doesn't. I think that gives me good reason to complain.

making a profile and swiping isn’t work, maintaining good healthy social circles is the real work I agree. I did the work and I still couldn't find anyone.

Most of them say that they did the work and tried to date within their means, and they STILL couldn't find anyone. If you call that being a victim or not that's up to you.

What does "victim mentality" mean? Same with "defeatist attitude." I mean, most women who say they were raped also seemed to have a victim mentality to me too.

So monogamy isn’t the reason attraction is important. Monogamy makes it more important than it otherwise would be. Let me have sex outside of marriage and I'll happily marry an ugly woman, all else equal.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/23 10:55 PM

but how can you say its way more important than personality in the context of expected monogamy? Because any time you make someone go to one source to get something, you make that thing much more important, in terms of choosing who that source is. If I get married I can only have sex with my spouse? Okay, then I'm going to make damned sure I'm going to enjoy sex with that person, and part of that involves how physically attractive they are.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/07/23 10:52 PM

I'm sure it feels that way to you, and that believing so makes you feel like a good person.

monogamous men have higher physical standards than polyamourous men because novelty is part of the appeal of a new woman No, its because, by agreeing to exclusivity, you have increased your exposure to key person risk: https://www.openriskmanual.org/wiki/Key_Person_Risk

This question can be rephrased as: "How much variation (difference between individuals) in height is attributable to genetic effects and how much to nutritional effects?" The short answer to this question is that about 60 to 80 percent of the difference in height between individuals is determined by genetic factors, whereas 20 to 40 percent can be attributed to environmental effects, mainly nutrition. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/how-much-of-human-height/

Unfortunately I have to comment to that effect, since you wildly overestimate the difficulty of dating while poly. Let me guess, you live in one of the larger metropolitan statistical areas, right? A lot of men these days wish dating pools were smaller anyway, which is why they wish online dating didn't exist. You're confusing two different ideas. Even though poly people are small percent of the population Exactly. It isn't impossible for it to work out. It's just very, very unlikely to happen. …

A drastic personality change — a complete shift — in any regard is likely to make us incompatible. Reminder: you're not actually disagreeing with anything I've said. Maybe try not going on a rant on a completely different topic. We both know his appearance played some role in it. You never would have given him the time of day, and you actually didn't give other men the time of day, in part, because of their looks. I think it's hilarious that you rejected men who you would have been even more in …

Nah. Physical attractiveness is important whether we're talking about monogamy, polyamory, or one night stands. I never said it wasn't, just that it is that much more important when the arrangement is one where you agree to forgo everyone else except the spouse. It isn't a question of underlying physical attractiveness, or desire. The nature of the "contract" including terms to the effect that it means sexual exclusivity is distinctive. Ironically, if women were more tolerant of "cheating" then …

Strictly speaking it isn't, but some people believe so. Height is also an indicator of health, with those malnourished in childhood never growing to their maximum genetically possible height.

His personality is why I love him. Again, it's easy to say that before his face has been bitten off by an alligator. Any drastic change, even if it might seem “good” or “neutral” to an outside observer, would make him not be the person I love. I think it's more of a case of you having a poor imagination. Must he remain exactly how he is today, otherwise you'll break up with him? Sounds unrealistic to me. I didn’t start dating him because of how he looks, either. Did I ever think he was disgustin…

There is absolutely no connection to societal expectations of monogamy. The connection is that, unless you find a unicorn, every person you will ever so much as contemplate dating will expect you to be monogamous. It's the only option available to you. Whenever it's a "you can only do X with Y person for the rest of your life" you'd be an idiot if you signed up for that without being extremely confident that it is going to work for you. If instead you knew you could have sex outside of the relat…

You're confusing different but related concepts. Physical attractiveness is important for selection of a long term romantic partner because of monogamy. Mostly driven by the fact that openness to a polyamorous arrangement is so rare that it is practically non-existent. If social conventions were set up to where sex wouldn't be exclusively for a spouse, then looks would be far less important for choosing a spouse. Humans would be no less "visual creatures."
/r/PurplePillDebate28/07/23 10:14 PM

I wouldn’t break up with my boyfriend if his physical appearance changed dramatically (for example if his face were maimed in an accident) But would you gone on the first date with him if it had happened before you met? An established relationship changes thing. By that point you would have already chosen your romantic partner. It's easy to say you wouldn't break up when you don't have to navigate that actual scenario. I mean, I would have demonstrated great feats of bravery on the beaches of No…

Yes, this is the case with other primates as well. You could get around the problem with modern technology. Choose your sperm/egg donor base (at least partially) on looks if you want, and then at that point you're not planning to create children with the person who would - effectively - be nothing more than a room mate. Some people are also infertile. So, reproduction and looks could be decoupled.

Please elaborate, because, for marriage, I don't care how kind, funny, etc. a person is if that person is a dude: I am not physically attracted to men, so they will never be candidates for marriage. This is driven by the (social) fact that "spouse" means that they're the only person I'm having any sex with for the rest of my life. Not that personality doesn't also come into the equation, just that it is irrelevant so long as the person in question doesn't pass the "are they hot enough to me?" te…

If you're single at 45, your dating pool may consist of people who are similarly overweigh and a bit wrinkled. That isn't mattering less, it's just a change to the pool of people you're working with. So now, you're less focused on the looks and more focused on whether or not the person you're dating is a good person and is capable of being a good parent. That's not lessening the looks criteria, it's adding extra criteria. Big difference. You don't suddenly switch your sexual orientation - to pic…

Personality is number 1 for a romantic partner. I think you're really talking about "among the people who meet the physical attractiveness minimum criteria, personality is number 1." They will be the person I spend the most time with, I want to have a good time, not just something pretty to look at. They're not going to be your only friend though. They WILL be the only person you have sex with. Since that's the case, you're going to want to be pretty fucking confident about your decision to only…

Most people, males and females will prefer to raise their own children but it especially applies for men Like I said, there can be some rational for why one particular arrangement could have advantages over another, but that still doesn't mean one arrangement inherently must be that way. Physical attraction is important wether our society expects monogamy or not. No, the importance of physical attraction depends on your goals, constraints/limitations, context, etc. There are many kinds of relationships where physical attraction is completely irrelevant, or at least extremely unimportant. For example, I do not care how physically attractive my dentist is. No one expects my dentist to have sex with me. What I do need from my dentist is for he/she to be competent, knowledgeable, re…

even if polyamory was the norm most people will still go for more attractive mates No, not necessarily. There is no inherent reason why the person you share an oven with, share a refrigerator with, go on vacations with, raise children with, etc. must also be the only person you have sex with for the rest of your life. There's no inherent reason why you would have to even have sex with that person. There is no objective, "correct" reason for it to be that way. Those things do not need to all be b…

Most people don't do it all that well most of the time. How would you know? Even if your statement is correct, it doesn't justify your original statement, "Or maybe sex just isn't all that great." Fine: people would be on the right track if they tried to get better at finding the sex that they want. Sex is still "all that great," they just need to get more efficient at finding the good stuff. Do you know this from real life experience, or from self-fulfilling prophecies after being a little socially awkward and then spending all of your spare time in echo chamber incel forums? I know it from self experience. If I say it was me, you'll say it's really just a self-fulfilling prophecy If I say it wasn't me, but I saw it, then you'll say I must not have understood what was really happening between two people. Sex solidifies and shows that a woman values you which is why it is so important, but it is not sex itself as prostitutes aren’t what an incel wants. INCELS WANT PROSTITUTES TOO, it's just that, currently, they're too expensive, illegal, etc. Prostitutes don't get incels everything they want, but prostitutes get incels part of what they want, and that's better than nothing.

Chocolate isn't "everything" either, but people generally like chocolate, and their lives would be filled with less joy if they had to go without it. The same goes for cheese, or bacon. There are many, many things like that. Individually they don't mean much, but if you keep adding to the list of "things you have to live life without," eventually the totality becomes significant. Like, let's agree with "them": sex isn't everything. So? It makes no difference.

Have you ever actually talked to an incel? No, they do not really care about "validation," which is a vague imaginary term invented to derail these conversations. Why even bring up "validation"? You want to switch the focus so that you can argue that we can find some other way for incels to get "validation" instead of getting them sex. That way, you can avoid the whole "incels having sex part," which was your goal from the start. What even is "validation"? There’s a reason why escortcelling does…

Pretty easy: if a man should care so little about physical attraction that he is indifferent between a woman and his hand, then it would follow that the same could be applied to women, so they would be just as attracted to two men, all else equal, with different looks.

It's a matter of taste, there's no right or wrong about it. If you can be perfectly happy living as a hermit, then go for it dude. Most people wouldn't call that kind of life fulfilling. for better or worse, most people value relationships. it is important. friends aren't a substitute for a spouse.

There's nothing wrong with that one specifically. Many people enjoy their relationships very much. Why would you ever bother going through the trouble of being in a relationship if it didn't make you significantly happier? Relationships take a lot of work. It would be crazy to go through all that trouble if it didn't significantly make your life better.

Okay, well I'm one of those people who was accused of thinking that and I can tell you that I don't think that. Having a girlfriend will fix my not-having-a-girlfriend problem, which is kind of the main problem still outstanding.

The issue is when people expect their relationship to magically fix all their problems. Usually, that's just projection on your part. They don't actually believe a relationship will magically fix all their problems, you just think they believe that. The reality is that they believe a relationship will fix a big, important problem for them, which is not having a relationship.

The only "help" therapy can realistically offer you is convincing you to settle for a shittier life than you want. It's to numb you. Extinguish desire, passion. To give up. Could therapy somehow cause you to change something, and for that to somehow end up with you getting what you want? Sure, but it's unlikely to happen. It isn't the kind of bet you'd normally rely on. The sequence of events is so convoluted that it's hard to take seriously. It's at the point where anything could "help." Techni…

What he gets wrong is the fact that there are two sides: change in what the guy does/is, and change in what women want. Changing either can change the situation.
