If she’s recording you while trying to push your buttons she is at that stage. Do not put that past her for a second. This sub is littered with guys that didn’t think their wives were at that point “yet”. It’s time to start covering your ass, and for the love of god stop giving her anything she can use against you. It’s time to up that patience and turn into a saint. Record interactions as well. That’ll keep you honest and display that she’s trying to provoke you. Good luck.

She’s going for all of it now lol. What she’s asking for is ridiculously unreasonable. I’d want it to go quickly and easily too if I was going to end up with literally everything like she’s proposing. Op, take what you’re owed and don’t agree to any of what she’s proposing. It’s insanely one sided and no judge is going to award her that if it comes down to it.

You need a family law attorney. Find the highest rated ones in your area and set up a couple of consultations. There’s nothing wrong with talking to a few to find the best fit. Once you pick who you want you’ll want to file first if you aren’t beaten to the punch. Either way you need a lawyer. A paralegal isn’t doing to do anything for you. Getting a therapist isn’t a bad idea but that is a lower priority than retaining legal counsel ASAP.

I’m in CA, and my situation is nearly identical to yours in having one child and the same income split with my ex. You cannot install cameras inside common areas of your home without her consent but you can hold your phone and record video. Any place where your ex has a “reasonable expectation of privacy” is going to be the same. Outside cameras are fine. What your ex is proposing for support is insane. She’s basically saying you should live off of $1,500 a month while she lives off of $4,600 a …

I’m over $40k into this and seems like I’m too close to the finish line to switch it up now. At this point it’s more about just getting this finalized and behind me. My attorney was also awesome for my custody.

I’m in California. I love my job and quitting isn’t really an option. The amount for spousal support is much lower than $1000, but it’s definitely enough for me to feel it and somehow more than child support which blows my mind.

My lawyer told me the judge won’t care and this won’t impact support at all. I know I said it before but I really don’t mind child support. I feel like I owe my daughter that, but I absolutely disagree that I should owe my ex anything for herself.

No, she’s back working now. Was on disability for major mental health problems before separation. She had a great job with better pay and advancement opportunities but quit that on the date of separation and took a lower paying entry level job. Really frustrating that her choosing to lower her earning potential isn’t taken into account for support.

I actually met someone awesome and we’ve been together for a while. Ex is fully aware of it so that’s a no go. I’m already getting bent over in support. I’m not really up for conceding any of my financial share of our assets unless it’s court ordered, but at this point I’ll happily roll the dice with a judges ruling if they don’t respond

I was paying for everything before we finally sold the house and moved into separate places. Still stuck covering what I can’t legally cancel for now but not as bad as before. Don’t mind child support one bit but the spousal support being awarded stings a lot. All together it’s a quarter of my income still going to her.

I’m in CA. A trial sounds crazy expensive and I really want to avoid that if I can. But I’m sick of dealing with this and I’m not taking any options off the table at this point.

That might be what I have to do. I’ll fire off an email to my attorney saying pretty much what you said. They really aren’t negotiating in good faith and I’ve hit the point where I absolutely resent and hate the mother of my child. If you understand the reason could you explain why support drops when it goes from temporary to “permanent”?

Bro, she threatened you with what I’d like to assume are false allegations in order to obtain a protection order against you. Can you honestly say you’ll ever trust her again after that? She showed you exactly who she is, and I hate to be the one to tell you this but that’s not the woman you married. A lot of us have been there. Your best shot at protecting yourself and your relationship with your kids is to file first. False hope is a strong and incredibly messed up weapon used by a lot of wome…

They’re old enough to understand what’s going on here. I wouldn’t go too hard on it but there’s nothing wrong with being honest with them about why this is happening. If all they know is you filed then you’re going to be unfairly blamed for their family unit falling apart and that’s not cool. Honestly, you don’t owe it to your ex to provide her any cover for her indiscretions and take the hit here.

Unfortunately I don’t know how well negotiating will go. Me ex’s attorney’s are absolute sharks and never even respond to my attorney reaching out. What we’ve now offered is very fair in my opinion, but they’re not looking for fair. I offered to buy my ex out of our home, and they pulled out of that after originally agreeing in an attempt to squeeze more money out of me. We ended up selling and her half of equity is like 8k lower than what I’d offered. I’m holding out hope I won’t have to pay sp…

I’m in CA and going through it now. Had court for support last week and the judge reserved the right to go through our IED’s and file a written order within 90 days. I’m sweating bullets waiting to find out if I’m going to get financially bent over or not. Would really like to chat to see how yours played out if that’s cool.

California is a no fault state so this isn’t going to help your case and it’s also illegal to record someone without their knowledge. So, no. It’s not safe to post.

It’s a racket bro, but you do what you have to do to keep your kids safe and give them the best chance at life

$36k to my attorney so far and an additional $10k for the psychological evaluation

Our attorneys didn’t agree to anything in the meet and confer beforehand. Got there. Her attorney tried to make the case that my expenses don’t matter when it comes to spousal support and all that should be considered is income disparity. Mine made the argument that ability to pay after reasonable expenses needs to be considered as well as it’s one of 3 criteria . Then the judge asked if we could find common ground. We couldn’t and she then said she needed to review our filings and our income/ex…

This may not seem like any consolation but odds are very good your ex is going to find out the grass isn’t greener on the other side. The dating pool is kind of a shitshow for “older” divorced women but it’s fantastic for good men. She may have some fun at the start but that’s going to get old really quick and she’s going to find out the hard way that good men in the older dating pool are rare. Most likely she’s going to end up miserable but you’ll move on to someone great that appreciates you a…

Just trying not to be taken advantage of financially. Spousal support after how she treated me late in the marriage just seems like such a slap in the face, and her irresponsible spending shouldn’t be my problem anymore.

I don’t believe this is for temporary given where we are in the case, but since I’m still on her health insurance (mine is way more expensive and not as good) that will likely need to be factored into support amounts later. We’re set to go in front of a judge to decide support today, and I’d like to avoid a trial if possible, but I’m prepared to go there if her sharks of attorney’s keep playing games.

Thanks, just at work on the verge of hyperventilating before court this afternoon.

My attorney ran the state guideline calculator and CS comes out to $342 a month. I can manage that. If SS is awarded it would likely be an additional $300+, and that’s where I go under water in my monthly budget. Given I’m already making a lot of sacrifices to make ends meet and end up with nothing left over at the end of the month I’m really hoping the court denies SS.
