Today marks a full year since I served my stbxw divorce papers, and I’m so ready for this process to be over with. Things did end up getting dragged out due to issues with custody but that’s over. All that’s left now is the final division of assets/debts, and support orders.

Ex has filed for child support, spousal support, and for me to pay her attorney fees. There is a disparity in income but my finances are extremely tight already with monthly expenses. I’m salary at 70k a year, and she’s hourly at around 40k per year. I don’t have any issues with paying child support as our daughter deserves to have her needs met and shouldn’t suffer because her mom and I couldn’t work things out.

I am not agreeing to spousal support or for paying her attorney fees. My legal fees are 5 times what hers have been due to her lawyers refusing to respond to any communication from my attorney and my attorney writing up all the court orders.

My question is what should I expect from the process today? I’m sure a lot of you have had experience with this, and I’d appreciate some perspective as I’m incredibly stressed out right now. I literally could not afford baseline spousal support if it’s ordered and I don’t have the money to pay her attorney fees. I’m in California for what that’s worth and our custody is 50/50. Any advise or feedback would be greatly appreciated.
