"every time a woman has been hurting me during sex and I told her to calm down or stop, she said "I can't help it" and continued, even despite further protestations...Strange that none of those women have even seen a courtroom" Did you report being assaulted by these women?

Do you know why Buzzfeed ran the male survivor post? Non-feminist men complained about the lack of male survivors in the original post. What are you basing this on? Did a Buzzfeed editor or other staff member say this was the case? How do you know it was "non-feminist men" making the complaint? I ask because I'm a woman, and a feminist, and I replied to the original post requesting another post featuring male victims of sexual assault. There weren't many public comments from other users requesti…

TIL that because the UK age of consent is 16, my question about a 13 year old being raped is not worth answering. Men who rape that have mental problems don't get a free pass Uh, what? If their mental health problem is documented, that is taken into consideration by the police, the legal representative of the accused, the prosecutor, the judge/jury during sentencing... It's not a "free pass," but their status is definitely taken into account.

As someone who works in mental health (specifically, with first-incident mood disorders), I definitely do know what I'm talking about.

Or you could, y'know, read the article OP linked to. According to the article you did not bother to read: Police have found that most "false accusers" were under the age of 21, and/or had mental health problems. So yes, let's punish paranoid schizophrenics and those with untreated bipolar disorder with JAIL TIME. That's the ticket! Also worth noting: when the alleged victim was under the UK's age of consent, in 50% of those cases, a parent made the false accusation. If your 13 year-old told you …

The only mention of "princesses" in this thread says women are treated like princesses, not being princesses I'm not sure you understand how words work, or you were so desperate to invalidate my points that you didn't even spare the time to read the original quote I referred to: The entire reason for all of this nonsense is because women are usually protected princesses, and men are thrown in the fucking mud. Let's look at that again: women are usually protected princesses. Not "treated like." A…

I really don't have the time or inclination to educate you in how "the neutral reporting of reality" is impossible. You might choose to educate yourself on this topic (I'd start with Plato, but that may be above your pay grade) but essentially, Wikipedia, as an "Encyclopedia anyone can edit" exists to illustrate the dialectic form: you put together a number of different subjective perspectives, and by combining them, you can have a more objective understanding. Right now, the perspective of Wiki…

It's like you've never even been to wikipedia. Pretty much every gender related topic is infected with feminist bullshit I guess, to you, "acknowledging women's perspectives and contributions" = "feminist bullshit." But if you could link to a Wiki article that is "infected with feminist bullshit" and actually prove your point instead of making a baseless claim, then we could discuss it like rational adults. you'd just doxx the key female contributors, abuse the "Report Abuse" button, and send ra…

Why are MEN so afraid to let WOMEN speak? All I've read in this post is a lot of fear-mongering and hatred directed towards women, who (according to the upvoted comments on this thread) are all lazy, stupid, "princesses" who let men do all the "hard work" (editing Wikipedia articles) for them. That this article was posted by a conservative watchdog group that promotes "traditional values" (like women being subservient to their husbands) hasn't even come up. Neither has the fact that the perspect…

I understand your point, but look at it logically: even if a person takes every precaution to prevent an accident and an accident still happens, they are still responsible for what occurred. When a pregnancy occurs, someone will become a parent. There will be a child in the world that needs to be fed, cared for, and kept in good health with access to education. Why should that burden fall to society, instead of the people who decided to have sex (knowing the risks, taking precautions, but still …

Okay, just to review: you have sex with women JUST so you won't be mocked? You're willing to risk becoming a parent when you're not ready because you're afraid of what your coworkers and employers think? I...don't know what to tell you. I think it's a really, really good idea that you not have sex right now, because you don't seem to be mature enough to handle the consequences of having, or not having, sex. Grownups make those decisions every day. Grownups don't say they "don't have a choice" to…

Affirmative action is a complex issue, and the application of the policy is not always handled in the best way. For example, the general assumption that women and minorities in academia, whether it's law school, med school, or a STEM field, didn't get there on their own merits is incredibly damaging to those groups when they start classes or start the job hunt. So, whatever slight "advantage" women or minorities might have when they apply to school evaporates pretty quickly the moment they set f…

Uh, a couple things. If OP had read the article, they'd know that the selection process for the Law Review hasn't changed significantly. The "anonymous merit-based selection process" is still in place. The hiring committee simply added 2 spots to the roster of editors who are chosen by looking at factors "that incorporate applicants’ grades, writing test scores, race, and any physical disabilities into their decisions" and are now adding gender as a criteria. Well, you make a fair point. Yeah, I don't understand how someone can demonstrate their comprehension of literary analysis by citing Wikipedia. Uh, I'm pretty sure the Canadaian, Austrailian, and UK troops saw some "intense fighting" in Afghanistan. Ditto for the UK in Iraq. Or I guess the women serving in combat roles in those forces don't count? Also, why is Lt. Col. Grossman the only source for this accusation of war crimes committed by Israeli soldiers in retribution for the death of female combat soldiers? That's a very serious accusation that requires verification by several impartial sources to be presented as fact.

What information did the "tactics" rundown provide, exactly? Why didn't the author cite any primary research projects that have used these tactics? Or any secondary sources at all? In Tactic Five and Tactic Six, for example, the charges Strauss lays are very serious, and likely should have resulted in some legal action at the very least. Right. Because only truly benevolent movements like the MRM harrass and threaten to kill someone (to the point where they have to file an FBI report) just for disagreeing. Uh, you really think "feminism" came up with the man=bad/woman=good dichotomy? Ever hear of the Victorian concept of the Angel in the House? Or perhaps the notion of the Maddonna? Pretty sure women (at least demure, virginal mother-figures) have been seen as "good" and men as "bad," corrupted by worldly desires and sinful urges, for a lot longer than "feminism" has been an ideological force in Western society. Uh, if it didn't matter, why edit out the hotlinks? Obvious answer: to make Harding's article appear more like a rant and less like a substantiated opinion piece with citations and examples of why she's saying "F*CK YOU" to MRAs. C'mon, you're smarter than that.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 05:35 AM

Uh, I don't know about most people here on /r/mensrights, but most of the comments are pretty sexist, anti-feminist, and anti-women. It's funny you mention r/beatingwomen. Did you know that one of the MensRights mods used to be a frequent contributor to that sub? But I guess that there's no reason to suspect a MensRights mod would also be a misogynist just because he contributed to r/beatingwomen.

Well argued! A list of links, followed by "bullshit!" I guess MRAs didn't really say or do any of those things mentioned in the articles? Not sure what you're trying to illustrate with your "bullshit." **Edited to add: If any of the articles are, in fact, "bullshit," why did the OP decide to remove the hotlinked citations from the screencap? After all, if there's no truth to Harding's assessment of the MRM, why hide the hotlinks?

Okay, fair enough. I understand how easy it can be to overlook something when you're not consciously searching for it, but every time I come to this sub looking for real, concrete discussion on men's issues, I only see a lot of angry people ascribing every problem in the world to feminism. (And that's my own confirmation bias).

Sorry, I was responding on my tablet. I'm on my computer now - here's a link to the full article with the citation hotlinks intact. And nope, that WTF wasn't directed at you :-). I'm just a little surprised by the OP's need to deliberately edit the screencap of the original article.

Do you find it ironic, though, that you can say, "Hey, those are the voices of just a small microcosm of our movement!" but feel perfectly comfortable of attributing a particular action or motivation to generations of feminist scholars, activists and philosophers? You can't have it both ways - either all feminists or all MRAs can be addressed as a monolithic group, just as responsible for a minority opinion or epithet within that group as the other, or people acknowledge that, yes, BOTH movement…

Except the image was edited to take out the citation links Harding provided that illustrate when, where and how MRAs on Reddit and elsewhere have said and done what she's talking about. I love that you've been down voted for simply pointing that out. Folks here want to express their hatered and contempt for women/feminists, and then wonder why the MRAs on Reddit have an image problem.

Uh, Control-F for "cunt" or "bitch" in the comment replies to this very thread. There's enough hate directed toward women/feminists in this post alone to illustrate the point. Unless you're of the opinion that dismissing someone as a "spoiled cunt" or saying, "I wouldn't fuck you for all the money in the world, you disgusting cunt!" Were you mugged and stabbed because you're a white, heterosexual American man? Were you singled out for the mugging/stabbing because of your race, gender or physical condition? Probably not. No, actually, gender refers to the qualities and expectations we assign to an individual based on their sex (genitalia and secondary sex characteristics). So, someone has a penis: their sex is male (although that category itself is very narrow and doesn't include intersex or transgendered folks), and so the individual is expected to conform to standards of "maleness" (gender) that have nothing to do with their genitalia, and everything to do with the way our society perceives and defines masculi…

Community prisons, curfewed tagging and alternative sentences are what is really needed and the relatively small female prison population is an ideal test group for these. What makes you think the women in this photo were Western? From the architecture in the background and the foregrounded woman's costume, I'd say it looks more like this was taken in Eastern Europe. But don't let me stop you from making broad generalizations.

What's the context of this photo? Anyone know? Was it a parade? A protest? A counter-protest? Might want to find out before MRAs like SPARTAN_TOASTER start comparing these two young women with neo-nazis... Oh wait. Shit. Carry on, then.

Yeah, and it only applies to the situation in a handful of Western nations. It doesn't capture the situation for women in 3rd world countries, or even less progressive westernized countries like China, India, Pakistan, or former Soviet states.

So, what would you suggest? Because some misguided or destructive people have used the same label I do to describe my personal political ideology, do I need to abandon my values and beliefs? Do I have to stop my efforts to address and improve men's, women's, GLBT and children's rights? If your knee-jerk suggestion is, "Yes," then I don't really think you're making much of an effort to see things from my perspective. We definitely shouldn't tell women that were assaulted that, but we can tell women that haven't been assaulted to be more careful, can't we? The main thing (not the only thing, but the main thing) I don't understand about this chain of reasoning is that most rapes are not committed by strangers in bars or back alleys. They are committed by friends, family members, coworkers, spouses, and people in positions of power and authority over the victim (and I am referring to both men and women, here). …

Cool, I can play this game too. I was not offering examples of men using existing laws to abuse women. . That wasn't the topic I was responding to. Health care and reproductive rights in american discriminate massively in favour of women. Okay, explain to me how the slow erosion of women's access to family planning, reproductive healthcare and the waning right to personal privacy and bodily autonomy translates into "discrimination" in favor of women. American women now have fewer options when making choices about their own bodies than they did in the 1970s. And it's not a matter of "small reductions" - the new and proposed legislation in ma…

What? What does that have to do with this situation? I'm not jumping to the explanation. That was the conclusion the author drew, the explanation as to why women are willing to miss work, but father's aren't. Context? We don't need no stinking context. 15 seconds of blurry video that captures the scenario midway through is MORE than enough evidence to decide that the man is a champion of men's rights, and that the girl is a "feral cunt" who got taught a good lesson.

Upvoted for being the very first person to ask about the context here. In the rush to congratulate this guy, no one is asking what happened before the filming began, what precipitated the incident, if the man and the girl have any prior history together, or what happened after the camera was shut off. Does it occur to you that women can't win, either? They aren't advancing in career areas that are a) male-dominated or b) female-dominated. So why is that? Is it because women as a gender are less talented, less educated or less intelligent than men? Or could it be that there are more complex social forces at work that dictate the different ways men and women are valued as workers, managers and executives? They are increasingly AA'ing their way into jobs and lawsuiting their way into a boring wo…

What? No, the article would still be about men advancing faster then women and being hired as managers and executives at a faster rate. That's statistical fact - there are more men in charge in both male-dominated and female-dominated fields.
/r/MensRights23/05/12 09:12 PM

Did you read the article? Neither privilege nor natural ability is cited for the reason men advance more quickly in female-dominated career areas: Goldberg attributes the glass escalator, in part, to women’s increased likelihood of experiencing “career interruptions,” like taking time off to care for children or aging parents. At the same time, stereotypes about men and the characteristics of strong leadership work to men’s advantage.”

I'm not sure that you understand what the glass ceiling represents, particularly when talking about women advancing to the executive or managerial level in the workplace. (Here's a hint: it doesn't happen often)

It could also use some verifiable facts to show how widespread this problem is, and how many women engage in the practice. Saying it happens isn't enough: there needs to be some data to back it up.

That's a huge assumption without actual research into it. You seemed pretty comfortable with assumptions when you talked about men doing more physical labor as volunteer work, although you didn't support your point with any facts. Also, it doesn't take into account who has more time to donate. A stay-at-home mom will obviously have more time to donate than someone working full-time. The 7 studies I linked to did look at these issues. They compared full-time wage earners who donated time, and par…

I think I add perspective on issues that detract from or degrade the positive aspects of the Men's Rights movement. You may not see that as valuable, but I don't think it makes me any less of a supporter for egalitarian and humane causes. Being critical doesn't mean being a hater. It means testing an idea to see how well it holds up. When an idea is presented in a way that I find fair and acceptable based on subjective and objective standards, I'd support it. And when something doesn't meet thos…

You do know SRS upvotes comments they don't like to highlight what a shithole reddit is. Most of the bad ones were downvoted until the SRS list. But that's my point - SRS doesn't allow any "lists" to be made about anything in /r/MensRights. Okay, our society teaches "rape is wrong" but it also sends a lot of mixed messages about what constitutes rape. I think most people (men and women) recognize that the violent dark-alley form of rape is a crime. But most rapes aren't committed by an unknown perpetrator in a dark alley. Rapists don't always punch or smack or slap their victims. Rapists don't always use a weapon. And because there's a perception in our society that a rape has consistent elements (violence, a dark alley, a stranger…

Here's something to chew on: most rapes are not committed by strangers. Your "dark alley" example, in which a woman should take responsibility for her own assault, does not apply to the majority of rapes or sexual assaults that take place. From The National Center for Victims of Crime, since you're not likely to take my word for it: Seventy-seven (77)% of completed rapes are committed by non-strangers (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1997). A woman is four times more likely to be raped by an acqua…

I'm not denying that false cases exist. Of course they do. But the vast majority of people (men and women) who experience sexual harrassment on the job do not report it at all. According to a recent AOL Jobs survey, "Only 35 percent of people harassed reported it; women (47 percent) are more likely to do so than men (21 percent)." So I'd say that the problem with sexual harassment is that it is under-reported, not that false claims from lying women threaten poor innocent menz. What percentage of…

You don't argue from a position of emotion - you examine your emotions rationally and then argue based on that rational position. Thanks for making my point for me. Emotions inform arguments. Men have lobbying for a while, it's just that everyone is completely unaware of the issues, and it seems like people don't care as much anyways. Why do you think men's lobbying hasn't been successful? I mean, why aren't more people aware of the issues? Women, minorities and other groups had to lobby for a long, long time to get their issues recognized, and it took decades for some people to take notice. (Particularly those people who thought they stood to lose something if those causes were succ…

I did a google search with "salaries in STEM by gender" as keywords, and came up with quite a few results. This study by the US Department of Commerce, seems to be pretty thorough and well-sourced, but if you find something better I hope you'll provide the link. In the Dept. of Commerce study, it concludes that, after every factor is taken into account (including hours worked, educational qualifications, etc), "for every dollar earned by a man, women in STEM earn $0.86." (See Fig. 3). That's the…

I'm going to play the hypothetical game with you too, okay? Pretend, just for a second, that women also have families to support, that they don't "spend money" on "bullshit", that they cut corners, they don't support an "extravagant lifestyle," and that they do spend every free second not taken up with housekeeping, cooking, cleaning, mothering, etc furthering their career skills. (Remember, we're pretending - I know that no woman in the world does any of this; only men do, because only men are …

Yeah, you're absolutely right. "Feminists" are really, really happy about women being denied access to legal and constitutional healthcare choices. We are FUCKING ECSTATIC that we have to fight the same battles over and over and over again. Wouldn't you be? This election will not be about MRA's or even real equality, that's for damn sure. Y'know, generations of women as well as racial and sexual minorities have risked their lives, their freedom and their well being to make sure that their issues…

I don't seem to recall many people defending the punch either. Take a look at the reply to the very first comment on this page: i certainly wouldn't stand up in outrage over that, but i also think a little physical reaction to someone fucking with you or your stuff is justifiable, both morally and legally (depending on the state). regardless of gender. Or some of the comments up and down thread. There's a lot of justification going on here even though everyone knows that the original post was fi…

Um, she is British. They drive on the opposite side of the road. She reflexively looked in the wrong direction because, to her, oncoming traffic comes from the opposite lane.

I think the "feminist" media you cite (and hey, there are many feminisms. Groups of women with different social, racial and cultural concerns don't get together and elect a media to represent them as a united voice) aren't angry at the lawmaker for insinuating that women might falsely file for rape. They're angry that this was offered as justification to limit access to abortion services. And I think there was also some outrage at the Senator's insinuation that married women can't be raped. Beca…

if you can't take a mans word that they made him do something he didn't want to then you can't take a womans word. ...except in a case where a man's signature is on a legal document, and he's accusing his wife of forcing him to sign. He has to prove that he was forced to sign his name. The court just can't accept his word because, well, his signature was on the consent form. the burden of proof is on the man that he had consent, not the other way around like it should be. ??? I'm confused by you…

Wait wait, you're comparing extortion (if that is the case) with rape? I certainly hope the burden of proof is different.

Yeah, an outsider being critical and asking questions IS pretty dumb. Why can't they just leave you guys alone? That's how a circlejerk works, dammit!

You realize that being "privileged" isn't used in the sense of "he has an advantage", but is used in the sense of "his judgement is clouded by his advantaged perspective", right? THANK YOU for providing such a clear explanation of the different paradigms for "privileged" being used in this debate. Upvotes forever!
