The desire for pain or hardship stems from your recognition that you've been weak. So put it to work in getting strong.

No one can answer that question for you, bro, you're on your own. But your life hinges on how you deal with it.

Once you reach the state where one of the partners feels they have to play "marriage police" (see Chumplady), it's too late - the trust is gone and the relationship is toast.

Nice summary, thanks. Peterson is interesting on his own terms, even if I agree with most of your critique. But I respect him primarily because he's one of the few public intellectuals to fight back against the politically correct assault on language and culture.

The Stoics and Buddhists agree: Attachment is the cause of suffering.

I hope that none of that happens. If it does, and you take your own life, you will have been in good company; it's too common an ending for wounded men. (See Rollo's Book II). Better that we accept reality, follow our missions and make ourselves the best we can. If you enjoy the ride with a clear-eyed view of what the future might hold, perhaps you won't be so badly hurt IF it comes to pass. And then you'll still be around for those little guys you love so much.

I honestly do not know why men put up with witches. Perhaps they only become witches when you've surrendered. I never made a conscious decision to start acting like a pussy; one day I looked at myself and did not like what I saw. I tried to fix it, but it was too late.

In other words, you become a more attractive beta when you take a Western salary, etc., to a poorer country; but you're not an alpha there if you're not an alpha here.

Funny, I regularly see the opposite, especially with Americans and Brits: A fairly good-looking guy tied to an overweight, unattractive woman. In those cases, I assume the guy just doesn't appreciate his own SMV.

Dude, if you've not had sex with your wife in four years, you're not in a marriage, you're in a dependency. She's just waiting for you to get the message and go.

A lot of gold in here, particularly the message that marriage is "a game where you are tested each and every day, to the grave" and the imperative "to withstand the barrage of signs and support that is directly aimed at getting you to become a complacent (numb) man." But while it is perhaps true that "marriage changes nothing," making babies changes EVERYTHING. With the arrival of your little bundle of joy, there are things that men cannot or should not do, things that belong to mom; and while y…

OP, there's a simple rule for people in your situation: She comes first. Use your mouth, your tongue, your fingers, etc., so that even if you don't last as long as you want, she'll get her jollies. And that will take the stress off of you. In fact, you might both find that you prefer it that way. Plenty of women do.

Try to see yourself as a three-year-old kid in an adult's body having a tantrum and imagine what that looks like to the people around you: complete self-destruction of your frame. Hard to pull off in the heat of the moment, but effective if you do.

If you are still caught in the anger phase or you identify as an incel then you need to do something about that rather than embracing it as it is a dead end. You may as well shake your fist at the thunder or hate female spiders for consuming the males during or after copulation. Just be glad you are not a male spider. Heartbreaking. My advice, operating from the assumption that you WANT to give her a chance, 1) Find out from a lawyer what your options are - but don't take any action until you've thought it through. 2) Gym every day. Be selfish about improving yourself: This is not a covert contract, it's about YOU. 2) Ask yourself if you could endure the suffering needed to try and salvage this; it's no joke, your mental health is on the line, and this is where guys in our situation end up offing themselves. …

Only the USA, among advanced economies, doesn't have a reasonable national healthcare system, so if your partner is losing it and needs to be put in a constant-care situation, you're faced with running out your assets completely to take care of them and living on in utter poverty after they're long gone. Perverse incentives at work here.

I wondered about this, too - see my post on the subject here: https://www.reddit.com/r/marriedredpill/comments/8142dt/divorced_rp_after_50/ Ultimately, I think it better to stick with MRP than try to start a new sub, and TRP skews way too young and inexperienced.

These things all make great sense, but it's tricky to understand that it's happening to you in real time, precisely because it's manipulation. If you 1) feel like shit about the relationship but can't figure out why; 2) find yourself angry or anxious for seemingly no reason; or 3) don't understand what she's up to, you're probably a victim and should get the toxic person out of your life.

I feel like people are way overthinking this crap. You're not going to find the answer in a pill or a self-help book, or in talking with a therapist. The answer is that you go out and take risks, and prove to yourself that you're a man. Depending on who you are it might mean, what, you join the Marines? Go work a year in a hospital in some godforsaken shithole country saving lives? Run a marathon? Sacrifice and bust your ass to get an education beyond what normies get? Something that requires gu…

You know how you get over self-worth issues? By proving your worth, to yourself and others. If you spend your entire life without ever taking any risks, all your time in mom's basement playing videogames, never seeing what you might make of yourself, you'll never get over it. "I could have done if only X...", "Had I had been born with X I would have...", no, that's bullshit. You do the best you can with what you've got.

She goes from 0 to 100 saying how she feels trapped now, can't wait to divorce me, etc... . Basically attempts to pass shit/compliance tests are responded with anger, yelling, and in some cases violence (hittimg me/throwing things). Remind us why you're trying to save this?

You've lost your mom to death and girlfriend to hypergamy. Those two things are all mixed up in your head now. Untangling them isn't easy, I can say from my own experience, but it's important to at least grasp that you're not just messed up over the woman. For me it was making music, hanging with friends and loved ones that got me through. And lifting and exercising.

The anger will ease with time. For now, do a google search for going gray rock: Minimal contact/no emotional communication.

You are confused. Look at these mutually exclusive statements: My intention is to go no contact with her outside of logistics. I care for her and would like to reconcile. Then think about those in light of this: She had expressed a desire to remain friends but she also explicitly stated that there was no chance of us being together again. She's already accused you of DV. What more does she have to do for you to get the message that it's over?
/r/askMRP25/06/18 04:37 PM

Nietzche called it "the eternal wound of existence." Nothing unnatural about it, everyone experiences it. People who deny the existence of this emptiness usually deal with it with drugs, alcohol, mindless pursuits (sports, videogames, television, social media, etc). A stoic approach would be to accept it is there and get on with your life.

I agree with MrChad - because I went through this exactly, allowing my fitness to decline as I enabled her life choices. She ended up getting out of the rut and worked on herself, even as I continued unattractive. Were you able to guess that she swung branches next? It sounds counterintuitive at first, but if you want her on board, you have to raise YOUR attractiveness. Maybe - maybe - she'll follow. The stay plan is the same as the go plan.
/r/askMRP23/06/18 08:43 AM

So you've decided to obsess about an area in which you don't max out the conventional standards of attractiveness. That energy might be better spent doing the best with what you do have.

This crap makes for a toxic workplace, and the facts of life being what they are, women can get away with it and you can't. What you absolutely should not do is descend to her level. Maintain strict professional demeanor when you MUST deal with her; when you don't have to, ignore her. Hopefully she'll get herself fired by going too far with someone who has the power to get rid of her.

Yeah, you look great in your wig until a strong wind comes along and blows it half off and you collapse into pool of humiliation. Women love it when you do that. Perhaps, if you wore funky wigs and openly joked about it. Otherwise, no. And my guess is that if you go without wiping your ass very long, you'll start again for obvious reasons whether or not anyone knows or cares about it.
/r/TheRedPill07/06/18 05:18 AM

Wearing a wig shows that you care too much what other people think and leaves you dangerously insecure. Same as the doofuses who, faced with balding, adopt the "bar-code" look, combing over a few strands of hair, imagining that others are fooled. Hell, why not also get pec and ab implants instead of putting in time at the gym? No. True confidence only comes when you decide to be a man, accept your fate, and do the best with what you've got. Shave it or trim it short.

I've been going through the same crap. A few thoughts: 1) It sounds perfectly normal to me. Your old life, the life you thought was forever, is over, and you haven't fully adapted to the new life. 2) This is not about women, it's about you. You are in a period of enormous potential growth, take advantage of it! Don't worry about the end result, just take your time to think, read, love your kids. Of course lift, and consider combat sports, too, but - and I think this often gets short shrift here …

88Will88, as usual, is right. In any case, sex is women's ultimate manipulation tool. She's inviting you back into her frame. If your relationship is already in flames, you'll just be extending the agony.

First off, you're doing the right thing, you're working on you. That is the most important thing. Stick with that, go to the maximum, not just in the gym but with learning and growing; you may discover that things come around. If not, you gave her a chance.

Never root through the trash once the garbage has been dragged to the curb. You get messy, your neighbors see you do it, and what you thought was worth digging for is never as valuable as you thought it was."

It's not just young men and unattractive young women. I mentioned this in my post on "Divorced RP after 50." There are lots of studly-looking 30-something guys who swipe right on everything on Tinder, picking the low-hanging fruit of 50-plus women.

My gift is not a loan, always a gift. "If the day ever comes that you can repay it, then pay it back on to someone that needs it." Nice.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO I EVER OFFER FINANCIAL HELP. A friend of mine follows a version of this rule, in that he never offers LOANS. But he does help when his family or friends have a legitimate need for it: He figures out how much he can spare and he gives a gift. That way, though there's a sense of obligation - no small thing, of course - there's no chance of a loan burdening and/or destroying the relationship.

This is an important post, because many of us have been there, are there, or eventually going there. We may not all be blubbering in front of our exes and the kids, but we all feel it. Brother, your marriage is over; it's not coming back. You will not get any distance, let alone monk mode, until you grasp that. As soon as you do, your life will improve rapidly, and you'll better start to understand what happened to get you to this point. And that's when you'll find peace.

Problem 1: Wife brings up divorce every week or two. If you haven't seen a lawyer yet and sorted it all out you're about to have your world blown up. This relationship is toast, and you're in denial. Funny, I'd been thinking how this topic is so important to MRP, yet so infrequently addressed. I wanted to share this from a book about controlling your drinking, called "This Naked Mind." Alcohol is a poison. Here's the science about what it does to you: https://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/Hangovers/beyondHangovers.pdf. Excessive alcohol consumption/alcoholism is also a contributing factor to divorce. Think about it, once you get drunk you stop having frame, you stop being able to understand your wife's signals, you start failing tests. Moderation is essential, or if you can't handle that, cold turkey.

I agree it's all there, but you can't just walk away from marriage and kids the way you can "next" a girlfriend in whom you've not invested much. It's this investment that simultaneously shackles you and clouds your judgment, even as you tell yourself how great it is that you're sacrificing this and that for the sake of your family.

You may have wondered why there is so much talk of women wanting guys to "open up" and "share their feelings"? This is the female imperative at work, the more accurate her psychological model of you, then the easier it is for her to manipulate you..." Perceptive point. Precisely why marriage counseling is often rigged to screw over the poor sap who goes in with his wife thinking the point is to solve relationship issues.

Maybe you guys are right, but this has been my (unscientific) observation so far - older women seem just as entitled as younger women, and they have a constant stream of dating app suitors. And commitment doesn't have the same meaning to a post-childbearing/post-childrearing aged woman as it does to a younger one. Maybe some of the other post-50 guys can weigh in with their observations.

Good advice from Screechhater: Drawing a boundary is something that you should do only after serious reflection, and only if you're prepared to enforce it. The one you're talking about carries a real risk that you'll have to escalate from arguing over a couple of texts to walking away permanently; indeed, if she's lying about her contacts with him it might be entirely justified, but it's not something you want to stumble into blindly. Of course not enforcing the boundaries you set will just make…

A woman at almost 50 years of age, who engaged a series of LTRs over three decades, absolutely has to know that she will not be able to hold a man's long-term interest. To expect serious long-term commitment after years of focusing education, career, and sacrificing marriage and kids led to and will continue to lead to an inevitable conclusion and continuing series of short-term LTRs. Again, thanks for all the thoughtful replies. This is consuming me. Because, don't we have a responsibility to train the kids to AVOID just this type of woman? Otherwise, the kid may end up with a woman just like her. Thanks UEM. I appreciate your answer. I am torn, because the narrative their mom feeds them is that it was "nobody's fault," a message reinforced by her network of amoral hags, who have - literally - been telling my kids that "it's all subjective." Well, I believe there is a difference between right and wrong, and I want my kids to understand that, so it rubs me the wrong way for them to be told that it just somehow happened. 470_2_700_nm's point is good, too, as my 9-year-old does need security…

What does "badmouth" mom even mean? Does it mean lie about what she did to protect him from knowledge of the real world? In other words, if mom blew up the relationship through affairs, lies and gaslighting, does the kid need to still only hear her version of what happened, that "mommy and daddy decided that they needed to move on and have their own lives again?"

Gaslighting: You find an incriminating text on your wife's phone that shows she's - at the very least - gotten very close to some guy that you don't know. You call her on it and she angrily replies that he's just a friend and you're being a jealous asshole, that you have so many problems and she doesn't know if she can stay in a relationship with an insecure guy who can't trust her. You go off and beat yourself up over your insecurity which she has made you believe is undermining your marriage. …

Gentle OP, I think you know the answer but you're just coming here for validation. Trust is the essential element in a marriage, more important than sex or love or shared commitment to feeding the gerbils. If you don't trust her in your gut, the marriage is over; all that remains is to decide whether you take charge of formally ending it, or if you hang on until events overtake you.

I'm just days from finalizing my divorce, and don't need to have a fucked up relationship with a co-worker. She's eye candy, though. Maybe I was just too friendly, American-style, in the beginning; I certainly wasn't hitting on her. One piece of info that makes the marriage comment clearer: She's about 32 years old, I would guess, surrounded by younger, very attractive, but poorly paid, men. OP, NMMMG is a great start and your question is a good one, though MRP is based on the idea that "you can't negotiate attraction." That even if your goal is to save your LTR, you ultimately cannot control how your partner reacts. You can only do you. My advice is to read this series from Rollo Tomassi called "The Reconstruction." It hits directly on your question and is probably the best thing I've ever read for men in your (our) situation. Here's part 1: https://therationalmale.com/2017/01/10/t…

It's not complicated but it's hard, and it's not the fear that you won't find someone as hot. You let yourself be vulnerable and you got dumped; that's the price you pay for taking risks in love. For what it's worth, your suffering shows that you're human. Time will help, as will accepting that you have no choice but moving on. So move on.
/r/askTRP29/06/17 05:26 AM
7

Not entirely wrong. By all means, if someone cheats you out of 500 bucks, you should take all reasonable measures to get it back. But in other areas, think about it: If you spend all your time obsessively plotting to avenge yourself on the person who wronged you, that means you have let yourself be sucked into that person's frame; you're not working on improving yourself, on fixing the things that you can. Forgiveness is something you do as much for yourself as for the other person.

For me it was just a question of reining in my overeating. Once I accepted that I needed to get up from the table without being quite full, the problem was solved like magic. Good luck.

Well said, Rollo, as usual. And where does men's anger come from? There are some men so fragile that they will shoot someone to death for cutting them off in traffic. They are entirely at the mercy of their emotions. It's easy to see how a person like this can be manipulated as easily as putty by others with greater awareness. For this reason the kind of ordinary anger expressed by men in relationships with women is also worth examining. Speaking from my own experience, I'd argue that it's our i…

Some 3/10 fatty friend of my friend's wife tried to hit on me, started touching my arm being maniupulative and trying to exert social power over me at a party and I just yelled out "no i will not sleep with you" and humiliated her. Dude, you might want to come up with a little more manly way of reacting. Like, you know, smiling and chuckling and saying "no, thanks," or even just ignoring her.

Dude, boundaries are about YOU, not her. "Simply stated, a boundary is an action you either take or refuse to take, whether you communicate it or not. For example, screening your calls before you answer them is an action you take. So, it is a boundary. If instead, you tried to get other people to stop calling you, that would not be a boundary. Boundaries are about controlling what you do; they are not about controlling other people’s behavior." https://coachjackito.com/blog/boundaries-in-marriag…

You’ve been told to refrain from being aggressive, competitive, and lustful in any way. I played my sport last week, and though I'm over 50, my skills set me apart such that I usually dominate the game (unless there are truly talented youngsters who are stronger and faster, I've been humbled plenty of times over the last couple of decades by these guys). In this instance, I was the best and my team crushed our opponents. I told my wife afterward how good it made me feel to have won and been the …

I used to live in a place with very cold winters. The house was freezing in the early morning, but I nonetheless had to wake up in the dark chill and take a shower to get my day going. The shower was warm and comforting, and I dragged them out - which should have taken no more than five minutes - sometimes, I'm embarrassed to say, for as long as half an hour, just because I was comfortable. I hated to leave the warm shower knowing that I was going to be cold for a little while. The psychology: E…

I agree with pretty much all the comments, but I'd like to suggest another possibility. When a woman has decided - consciously or not - to destroy her relationship, she will begin rewriting the past to make it seem like her husband has always sucked, in every way; she might not be able to say a single good thing about him, or remember any happy times. If she's in that stage, pretty much EVERY male she comes across is better than him. Stay humble for now.
/r/askMRP27/01/17 12:58 PM

Too much for most people, I understand. But hanging out drinking with your buds is hardly "transformative." Aim high. My favorite bits from that post: You must stop engaging the emotional chaos around you until you can learn how to manage yourself first. But when you begin to establish this stoic frame, your wife feels it and is jarred by it. She will attempt to engage further to test your resolve. You need not engage.
/r/askMRP03/01/17 08:51 AM

kicking a door in a fit of rage is more than enough to get you removed from the house if the cops came. it's terrible decision making. This: For those defending the crazed doorbuster, what precisely did he accomplish? Apparently nothing. But once the cops answer the call and see the evidence that he is "violent," he will be at the mercy of the state. Everything in his life will change for the worse.

Hey all. Time for me to quit lurking. I recently had an experience that's made me think, and I wanted to ask for the group's wisdom. On top of everything else, exhaustion on her part, frankly, could be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Newborns drain mom's sleep time like nothing else. You could - without asking - just take over middle-of-the-night feeding duties and see if the extra rest makes her less of a crazy person.
