I’m sorry you felt my reply came off as judgemental but girl, no to all of this. I have never shared intimate details about myself with people I just met, romantic or non-romantic because it is not wise. You’re leaving yourself open and vulnerable but not in the emotionally intimate way that you think you are, you are oversharing which is leaving you open and vulnerable to manipulation. Why did a first date need to be 8 hrs long anyway? That extended length of time probably gave you a false sens…

Yeah basically I agree with all of this. I’ve been on a few app dates in the past and I don’t recall ever walking away having exchanged salary figures and number of sexual partners. That whole first date sounds very forced and not genuine. Falling madly in love with one another and deleting the apps on the first date may work out for some people but they are the exception, not the rule. How can you be so sure of someone after one date when everyone is on their absolute best behaviour?

I have emotional outbursts where I am in a very heightened emotional state and I say things that deep down I do not really mean. I am not in a blissful marriage but I’m about to have 2 sons, my husband works hard and has moved us to a large house for our family to grow into (needing lots of renovation currently that he’s finding the money for but we are making do) and a large garden in a very lovely suburb area just outside the city. I hate him sometimes and sometimes do think about what an alte…

I want genuine opinions that could help from people prepared to be helpful not being asked why I’m pregnant at 30 weeks pregnant… Are you after a personal apology from me for being pregnant again in a not so happy marriage?

I never said I couldn’t wait to divorce him. In fact I said I most likely would wait until this second child I’m due to have is a bit older, perhaps at least 2 years old, if it really did have to come to that. I understand the whole looking through someone’s post history to try and get a broader picture of what may or may not be going on but to bring up a post from 2 years ago talking about dating apps when we were newly dating as a way to undermine or rubbish this current post when we are now m…

Yeah I do have a bad habit of misdirecting my anger or frustrations to another topic rather than addressing what really might be bothering me. He mentioned the family coming over to me in passing last night so we didn’t have a proper conversation about it. It really annoys me when he does things like that because it means I then have to bring the topic up again at a later time and depending on his mood , he could easily receive the whole conversation initiation as me looking for an argument and …

What does that old post have to do with what I’m talking about now that we are currently married? This was not a post about infidelity so what is the link you’re trying to make?

I’m married and I envy those women too. The ones who married well, have their kids, someone to lean on and a loving home environment. I’m currently married to a man who is earning well, I have a kid who I do love and another on the way. The job I’m in is okay for now being that I’m focussed on raising a family but I don’t enjoy it and would have left by now if it wasn’t for the maternity benefits. My husband just bought us a large house. On the outside looking in, things probably do look good fo…

Yes I will just look at it like a business-type marriage. The marriage definitely does have an expiry date and I think going our separate ways sooner than later would be better but unrealistic for me right now when I’ll soon have an 18month old and newborn so I’m thinking in about 3-4yrs time. Until then I will treat the marriage as a job that I’m trying to be good at. He has often said that marriage is about duty which I agree with but he kind of stops there. To me marriage is about more than j…

To your first point about us being from the same ethnicity and culture, yes that is true, but I don’t think it’s true that his expectations and his attitudes towards marriage and me as his wife would be the same across the board for other men of our ethnicity and cultural background. My husband has the attitude he has because he is at a financial advantage, he does call the shots because he holds the wallet. I do not have a problem with this at all, in fact this is what I was looking for, a man …

Leaving is always an option I guess but once you have a kid and then another on the way, realistically it’s just like what is that all going to look like. Am I going to move back to my parent’s house with 2 young kids? What will childcare look like and cost when I’m going to need to get back to work? How will I afford to get a house of my own for me and my kids? So going is easy to just pick up and say I’m leaving but in reality what does it look like, I just don’t know honestly.

We were both born and raised in London, UK of African descent. Yes, that is what I think I’m finding most frustrating. When I imagined marriage before meeting him, before being married I never thought it would be like this. Why would I want to get married if this is what I knew it would turn out to be, a shitshow basically. I’m not saying at all I thought marriage would be a breeze because I didn’t. I come from a 2-parent household (he does not) and I saw my parents work really hard together, ha…

Thank you for taking the time to read. My husband is a very angry man as a result of things that happened is his childhood. This anger is his biggest driving force and the reason he has accomplished many of the things he has today. I wanted a man that was more accomplished than me, driven, had a plan for his family. However, there were many red flags during the course of our relationship that I ignored, skipped over and was simply too naive to understand how certain characteristics of his would …

For your first concern, I find that my husband is also kind of like that. Tell him I’m pregnant and it’s all very matter of fact in his tone and response. Maybe it’s just a man thing? I guess you just have to accept that our men experience our pregnancies different to us when we are the first to discover we are pregnant, the first to feel the baby move, sense something may not be right etc. I also find that for me personally with this second pregnancy I’m in, there’s less excitement or even much…

Sadly my father had that same attitude. Successful arranged marriages require parents to be insightful of their own children’s desires, quirks, attitudes and help their children seek out a spouse that can complement those features.

As a woman who is currently married to a man I now despise, my advice is do not go ahead with marriage if at this point you are having doubts. Sadly the truth is that the things that annoy you about him pre-marriage, if not addressed/discussed/worked on now, will drive you mad when you are married. Your example of the parking spot scenario almost mirrors a situation I was in with my husband while we were dating and he got irrationally mad at a few drunk guys that stepped out into the road just a…

I’m not OP obviously but I found it interesting what you said about being able to love a woman but not wanting to marry her. I wonder if you might care to elaborate more? If a man truly loves a woman and he knows she desires marriage, why would he not want to marry her? I understand that there are cases where men and women of course will marry someone they don’t love for all sorts of reasons such as tax benefits, immigration purposes, societal status, family pressure etc. I’m just very lost on t…

Yeah I think being that it was my first serious relationship I really desperately did want it to work and even though there are so many other men in the world, I felt he was the one I needed to make it work with. Thank you, I will focus on getting things in order a bit personally then will start getting back out onto the dating scene again.

Thank you I did look in to that. I couldn’t really find any links exploring that phenomenon in a romantic sense but moreso in criminal pathology. I don’t believe it applies to me though. In my case, like another commenter said I just “froze like a scared deer” and let fear hold me in a relationship that really I should have left a while ago.

Thank you, it is so true. I do want to make space for the right man for me and at least I don’t feel like I’m leaving this relationship too broken. I’m still very open to finding love and sharing the love that I have so I think if I just remain hopeful I should be okay.

Okay well since you initiated the first hang out, I definitely wouldn’t ask for a date then. The ball is in his court now. If he wants to see you again for a date, he should ask. Maybe best to leave it for a couple more days and see if he messages, if not then I’d say it’s okay for you to reach out to him to start up some light conversation again. If he ignores that then just forget about it and keep it moving. It also sounds like you’ve just gotten back out there dating again using the apps. I …

Thank you for your response. I honestly do believe in my heart that I should have left at the time I caught him still on the apps. Things haven’t been all bad since then but they were never the same. I’m going to give myself maybe until the end of this month and then I will start putting myself back out there. I’m a little scared honestly but I will try to work on that in the meantime. Your story is very encouraging I appreciate you sharing.

To be fair, we are only 2 days in to the New Year so really you haven’t heard from him in 2 days. I wouldn’t ask him for another date per se, I’d let him initiate that first date, but there’s nothing wrong with texting him or calling him and just sparking up some conversation again. Maybe when you reach out to him he’ll propose something.

Thank you for taking the time to read. It was a long post but I wanted to make sure I included as much as I could, even the points that maybe don’t show me in a good light. I honestly do feel bad about the way I handled it overall but it is difficult to keep your composure when you’re genuinely not trying to argue with someone but they’re interrupting by loudly swearing and being unreasonable. But I responded in a petty way, I accept that. I understand that all of this probably appears desperate…

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and sharing your own experience. Stories like your own make me hopeful and not feel so alone. Congratulations on your engagement! I thought that dating older men would be better because they will be clearer in what they want in a woman and out of life overall but I’m learning now that is not always the case so it’s something I’ll be mindful of going forward. Wishing you a long and healthy marriage full of joy x

Thank you it is always very helpful to get a man’s point of view on things like this as well. Thinking back I was thinking maybe I could’ve just left it and asked him about it another time. But I do feel that is what I initially tried to do when he finished speaking, some silence settled and then I asked to turn on the TV. No I don’t believe I do add retorts to a normal conversation maybe if I’m angry or felt triggered by something then I’d say yes that is most likely something I would do. He is…

Thank you for taking the time to read. Yes, I think you've summed him up quite well. He does have a lot of good qualities about him but the truth is I think there are a lot of aspects of how he grew up that I believe may have negatively impacted who he is today: he grew up in a single parent household with his mother and 3 other siblings (4 kids in total, 3 different dads), his dad lived abroad and it doesn't sound like they had much contact other than the rare visit here and there, his mother v…

Thank you so so much for taking the time to read this. I was like this is so long no one's going to care. Thank you for giving me such a thoughtful response and being understanding to my situation. It is incredibly sad because I really do desire a healthy, meaningful and fruitful relationship and I know that obviously takes time, work and effort but it was just an awful feeling when it really dawned on me that he's not the one I can achieve that with. My parents met him in July and they did warn…

We did have a long talk about everything yesterday and he basically explained that he goes into dating situations with no expectations. For the last couple of women he’s been dating, he’d find out it’s not going to work pretty early on so they wouldn’t even make it to 9months and he said the relationship with me had kinda taken him by surprise. He’s probably checking his options BECAUSE your relationship is getting more serious. My problem with this is what is the end point? Is he going to talk …

Thank you for taking the time to read. I do understand that men and women can perceive things differently so I did try to give him the space to explain and asked him why exactly he goes on to the dating apps if he says he is serious about me. He told me the way I see it is is not really how it is but he can understand me being upset by it so I asked if it was just something he did to pass the time. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I emailed the employer and they said that’s the only day basically or they can make arrangements for a Teams meeting but I just told them not to worry, I’ll be there for that date. Thank you for taking the time to read and give me a very detailed response. I did feel really embarrassed and I didn’t know how to really communicate it so I did just leave but now having read what you said I do feel bad about it though. We had discussed exclusivity sorry I didn’t include that here but it is in my post history. I told him that I had paused my profile and he told me that he had kept his profile active. Because I don’t know if I really feel upset I would say mostly embarrassed. I feel embarrassed that I didn’t understand truly the nature of our relationship maybe. I don’t want to sit over his shoulder and get confirmation that he’s deleted all his dating apps because there’s no reassurance in that for me and all because he thinks I’m upset that he has them. I really liked him and felt strongly enough about him that I paused my profile and if not for the fact he has kept his profile still active…

Yeah as we’re dating more I do think I needed more time to be sure about him. After the previous guy, I did promise myself that I would wait until I’m in a relationship before having sex again so I’m disappointed I compromised my own standards.

I agree, he’s definitely in no hurry to commit to a relationship and in even less of a hurry to get married. Thank you, I’m not going to push the issue anymore. When we next talk I’ll just let him know that I thought about what he said about me always raising the topic and he’s right and I won’t push it again. Yeah I would really appreciate if sometimes he would just give me a compliment at least. He’s never rude to me at all but just never gives any small compliment not even to tell me I look n…

I do think it’s all of those things really. I just want some security or to put it bluntly, some kind of guarantee that I’m not wasting my time. Thank you for that book recommendation though I’ve already started looking at the Chapters and the preview and it looks like just what I need. I wasn’t picking a fight nor was I testing him. I asked him a question and I was struggling to get any clarity in what he was saying so I had to repeat what I thought he was saying back to him for him to agree or disagree whether that’s what he was actually trying to say.

He told me that he was in an 8 yr relationship with a woman that was 5 years younger than him up until about 2019. He said he ended it because he values his peace and felt that she was causing too many arguments which was taking away from his time to work on his business that he was just starting up. He realised he was getting a lot more done when she wasn’t around. She had her own place so they would alternate between staying at each other’s places. He explained that the way she would talk to h…

I do think he wants to be serious but just not with me unfortunately. I asked him if he would be okay with just being single and no kids in the next 5 years when he’s 41. His response was: “No because what would I have been doing in all that time”. I think because he’s so busy and I’m here and available to him it’s like okay well she’ll do for now. I understand that and I actually would prefer that but in this day and age it just seems unrealistic to put that kind of rule on dating. How successful can I really expect to be by dating men and saying no sex until relationship or ring?

He’s never been married, no. I don’t know if he’s ever proposed or been engaged. From what he’s told me, I gather that he’s not too fussed on being married but he has said he wants to be under the same roof with his kids. He did say his most recent relationship that ended in 2019, they were living together at one point and that lasted about 2 years but when I try and ask follow up questions he shuts me down so I don’t really know his relationship history all too well. I do think I’m becoming more excited about him to the point where if things ended now I would be quite upset about it. I don’t know how to gauge if things are really “progressing” but I do think our conversations are becoming more meaningful and he’s opening up to me more. We do have fun together and good laughs. Came off quite harsh but I do feel like there is some element of truth in what you’ve said. How do you go from not having had a LTR at 26 to wanting marriage? Like I said, I didn’t start dating until I was 21. I went to an all girls school up until 18 and then when I went to uni I started off living in an all girls house so I think overall I just didn’t have that much exposure to boys/men. When I say talking about marriage, I mean I asked him what he’s looking for and when he asked me I said “relationship leading to marriage”. It sounds like a bit of a leap to label that narcissistic? I do agree though that my vetting is off and I probably am about to be strung along.
