Take it a day at a time and do one thing positive for yourself everyday. Some days that will be taking the kids to the park or a movie. Those will be great days. Some days when you are alone try eating healthier, maybe working on the car for an hour, take a walk for 45 minutes. Just something where you can say I did something today. I’m currently going through a divorce and I’ve been working out, either weightlifting or a rowing machine cardio session. If I’m too tired for that I just try to org…

I don’t think so, I think our marriage ran out of runway.

You’re overthinking things man. I don’t know your situation but waking up from the marriage fog makes you think crazy thoughts. You’ve most likely been defining yourself for a long time as a husband. It will take time to adjust and replacing a wife with a girlfriend isn’t going to help you grow. Focus on what you need to do to be financially sound and in control of your life. Also, in some states if you stray while married she gets more in the marriage settlement. So tread lightly and ask your l…

Hey man, don’t feel bad, it happens to a lot of us. My wife keeps saying I told you what was wrong, you should have done this, you should have done that. All without taking accountability for how she acted. It would almost be easier if one of us cheated or hit each other. Nope, 16 years and I’m left shocked as to why we are getting divorced, communication is one thing but action speak louder then words. Her actions have taught me a good lesson, be ok being alone, have all your money under your c…

Thanks for the reply. I can get them all, not sure about electronically but in hard copy. Scanning at FedEx should be easy enough.

Maybe that’s something to really help me through things. I have several hobbies that don’t concern my wife and I’m generally never looking for her approval on how I father my sons. Once I’m on my own and in charge of my own life I think I just need to make sure I’m making smart choices so I feel good about things. Smart money choices, healthy eating, what’s best for the kids. Already work out a lot so just need to keep that going.

Yeah but how the heck do I approach a girl ima bat at 46. I hear that the dating apps are pretty awful. Where do you meet a normal woman, eharmony?

Thank you, I think you and I both need to keep in mind is it’s a process. Right now I’m ok and feel like I have a plan, tomorrow I might feel like what’s the point and be so far down it’s hard to even eat. I wish I could just make it ok forever, it’s hard.

I’ve actually really come to the conclusion that I could have done better financially in terms of not buying things for myself and managing my debt. That was a huge pain point. I always paid all the bills but she doesn’t trust me fully and rightfully so. Couple that with the fact that we are more roommates than a married couple and it’s just not going to work. I think we just have never been on the same page romantically for the last few years and it wore on her as well. I didn’t realize that it…

Listen man. I’m going through the same thing now. I have good days and bad days. Still co-habitating so it’s a little bad right now. I begged her to change her mind but I have to admit the relationship is more that we love each other but are not aligned anymore to stay married. It makes me really cry to admit it but I think we might be better parents if we aren’t married. It’s going to be hard as crap. I can’t tell you what to do or how to feel other then give the very sound advice to talk to a …

In VA where we are located we have to be separated for 12 months in order to be granted a divorce. So one of us has to leave.

Thanks man. I’ve just never wanted to be in a situation where I can’t just be in the same house as my kids while there young. That scares me me to death in terms of how it will affect me mentally and also how my kids will be without me around all the time.

I don’t have much choice there. We are house poor if that’s the right term, so I don’t have the cash to keep the house going and go and get an apartment. I could maybe move in with my sister, but that’s has challenges with it. Her husband is a handful and they fight like cats and dogs, so wouldn’t be the best situation for someone getting divorced to go into given how rough the divorce in and of itself is.

Dang man, that’s awful. You’d like to think that two adults can be reasonable and put the needs of the children first. God knows she probably missed you like crazy during those days.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
