It'll be men expected to design, make, and maintain the robots, by the way.

I think for most men, a romcom is basically a "slice of life with comedy", it happens to have a romantic element to it. I wouldn't mind watching a biopic on a wealthy guy who inherited everything, as long as he builds a cool mansion with secret tunnels, and there's some comedy sprinkled in. A pure "romance" tends not to interest me at all. The content just irritates me. Zero dimensions to the characters other than their relationship. Conflict that arises out of nothingness like "not being suppor…

This is probably the only real safe space unfortunately. I really don't want to make anything worse for you, but 1 in 20 falsely accused men landing in jail *really* doesn't give me any comfort, I am not sure how it's supposed to be any comfort to you.

Like disposable tools of labor and war, with no inherent value unless they wrenched it from the jaws of some terrible blood-stained beast. Unless you're talking about the king, whom everyone is apparently always talking about.

Hard to say. Given that boys are currently discriminated against at all levels of education, it would certainly be helpful at least in their early years to not subject them to the constant disapproval of their educators.

Yeah, you'd think that'd be the big obvious one. The fact that they can just kill you for no good reason and no one will care unless a woman or two gets killed too. (...and it would be *other* nations that care.) Seemingly the men have more rights, but those rights seem to be attached to this... complete disposability. Hey you can drive a car, but guess what, if you aren't the apex of government-sanctioned perfection, you could just get killed and everyone would just trust that it was your fault…

The fact that feminists have apparently branded the term "violence against" doesn't preclude the fact that it has literal meaning, and does not require that reasonable people respect their branding.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/02/23 06:08 PM
1

Right, I understand that, but does telling a feminist that being a CEO is an unnatural, terrible thing for a regular person actually change their opinion that it's evidence of a problem that needs to be fixed? Do women really start out in a career expecting to be CEO one day, then get crushed by the revelation of the "glass ceiling" preventing them from being Supreme Ruler?
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates03/02/23 05:59 PM

What are some general thoughts on explaining why "Most of the top CEOs in the world are men" isn't a useful observation, nor is it necessarily tied to "glass ceiling" complaints. My take is that there is no more reasonable a pathway for a normal man to become a top CEO than there is a normal woman to become one. I frequently get this cake topper thrown onto any reasonable discussion.

Property tax is not the same kind of tax as say income or sales tax. You pay property tax largely because your property is in a municipality that has services, and those services are paid for by the property tax. The bank that owns your home doesn't benefit from the road being plowed in front of your house, or schools, community centers, libraries, and other services. Those are things the person living in the property, or the property itself, benefits from. It pays for the services of your munic…

The "bad bits" are whatever an observing woman "doesn't want" at that point in time. Subject to change without notice, of course.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates02/02/23 01:37 PM

I agree discarding the agenda is a good place to start. Feminists could never hope to define a consistent "real man". The problem lies partially in the definition. Society told women "hey you can do whatever you want now" but never gave that freedom to men.

I had the opposite experience, because of my birthday I started school much earlier than most of my peers. I did pretty bad in school... until I got my first male teacher. Suddenly, turns out, I was normal, smart even, that gave me a big glimmer of hope that eventually propelled me through higher academia. My struggle wasn't because I was too young, it was because of my teachers. I 1000% agree that teachers just need to do better. Why hold a child back a year because teachers don't know how to t…

You're missing the entire point, but since you're here in bad faith, I suppose that's expected. I'm here asking actual MRAs how to navigate a topic toxic to men, that's backed by studies conducted with foregone conclusions that people enjoy seeing. However, you think it's valuable to link more of those studies so you can tell me that there's nothing to be concerned of because they're valid, proven, etc. Then you go so far to say that any disagreement, or creation of a topic like this, is because…

Your anecdotal evidence and first hand experience doesn't change the fact that statistically make doctors choose to work more than female doctors, and therefore do more procedures. They admit that in the study I'm referring to here, where they use it as part of their proof of the gender pay gap among Canadian doctors. What a stupid thing to be worrying about, but anyway... Iran is a terrible place for anyone stuck in it. The people in power have absolute ability to do whatever they want, and it doesn't matter what it's people want. Complete corruption. A woman is killed by a band of psychopaths, and a bunch of people protest. 76 deaths, 78% men. 700 protestors imprisoned, 90% men. Doesn't seem like the common man is the problem here. The powerful rule like bloodthirsty savages, and among the common people, somehow, the men are the enemy.

While what you are saying may be true, many women treat veganism like a fad diet. They'll be vegan for a week, or a month at a time. Just long enough to be self-righteous before switching back.

Traditionally male anti-social behavior is criminalized more severely than traditionally female anti-social behavior. The things men are expected to do more frequently require behavior that we've criminalized. A poor guy with no socioeconomic power is supposed to provide for himself and his partner, what's he going to do? We also just don't really prosecute the kinds of crimes women do. People pretend female violence is a joke that can't exist, even if it's a case of assault or domestic violence…

To be completely honest, the only reason I say that I imagine "in the 3rd world this is true" is because I only really want to address the place this argument has in the modern world. I just didn't want to get into it when the conversation was about a pay gap observed in doctors. I completely agree that there's common reality where you are expending effort for no gain at all. You're participating in a social structure, you're fulfilling your half of a commitment, etc. The entire concept of "paid…

Exactly my sentiments. Every female character has to just be an unstoppable force of nature, constantly overcoming whatever limits, shackles, or obstacles meant to impede her with no external support. A problem solving genius, both street and book smart, with unlimited stamina and dexterity. Mostly agree, except for the part about "care-work" either being uniquely female, or that it manages to eclipse the amount of other work done by a man. The solution to this unequal care responsibility is always "hire it done" in these conversations. Either that or it's completely moot (conversations regarding top-earning doctors for example). Why exactly is it a problem that needs solving when someone opts to take care (for their loved ones mind you) out of the hands of the economy? Why is it un…

By even talking about wages as if it is the only important variable we completely sweep truth under the rug and enforce to everyone that being a wage slave as completely as possible is the only valid pursuit. I can't help but think part of the angle is forcing everyone into employed labor for the largest percentage of their lives possible. Someone being paid is generating wealth for others. So of course, get as much of that as physically possible, and limit the amount of time people spend not generating wealth for others.

I try, but people are so brainwashed It's almost impossible to get anywhere. What I find particularly infuriating is that in this "unpaid labor" equation, there are endless things that are simply demanded of the male, and aren't valued at all. Recently ran into some kids complaining about the pay gap among doctors. Where male doctors do more procedures and see more patients. Then, everyone starting complaining about how women do much more unpaid work than men. Very very annoying topic. I imagine in the 3rd world this is true, but in the 1st world I constantly see that unpaid work by men is just "forgotten" while unpaid work by women is heralded as solid gold. Seems that the study says that while women are lonlier when they're older and men are lonlier when they're younger, men are far lonlier than women at all ages. That statement saying that older women are lonlier, they mean with respect to other women. I do think that it's a take away from the "old days" where a man's career may have actually have had a significant social aspect to it, especially at the higher end of society. The expectation is that work fulfills a man's social needs 100%. It's a …

Oh my goodness... The general arrangement is that there is no time allowed in a man's schedule apart from work and family responsibilities. The "burden" is that when a woman drags a man into a social situation, he doesn't have any friends there, and relies on the woman during that social situation. How selfish.

Analyses revealed that men are more isolated than women in the younger Add health sample, while women are more isolated than men in the older HRS sample. At all ages, men reported higher levels of social isolation compared to women. When taking into account marital and partnership history, the researchers found that men and women showed similar patterns of increasing isolation between ages 18-42, regardless of their partnership status. I don't think people say "we can re-populate quicker if there's more women" as a reason to oppose an equal draft, that's the historic reason why groups that only used men for warfare were more prosperous that ones that similarly exposed their women. That doesn't work so well in the modern world, where men are societally constrained from having children with multiple mates, and as a result, those children raised without …

I think many men pretend a situation where they were taken advantage of was one where they were "secretly" in control and therefore have rationalized that it was "ok". I think in general women have less desire to imagine they were in control of situations they were not. In fact, I would suggest that women are more likely to pretend they had no control of a situation they did have control of. It's more stereotypical for a man to be in control and for a woman to have been more selective.

From a Fundamentalist perspective, pride is not the same as self-worth. They believe humans have extremely high, yet "the same" self worth. Very easy to get them mixed up for obvious reasons, they feel like natural extensions. I don't really understand the topic/concept. Is "emotional labor" really describing the ardor the spouse being "vented to" undergoes? Is that really traditionally the woman? At least all of the examples of couples I know of involve a woman who does the venting and a man who receives the venting. Because of that, I assumed "emotional labor" involved the fact that men typically don't feel they are allowed to share, and therefore the women have to do all the "being emotional" for the couple. ....bu…

I know I'm a bit off topic with the comment, but one of the many things that bothers me about MeToo is the fact that it's even named as if being a victim of harassment is just a bandwagon to jump on. I think "traditional gender roles" has become a broad brush term. There's two fronts in male advocacy: Undoing or preventing the damage done by feminism. Going back. Uncovering and amending traditional practices that are harmful to men. Trail-blazing. Anything in the first category can be painted as "traditional gender roles", and anything in the second category can be painted the opposite. If it's any consolation, this is a completely ridiculous article that I trust no one will take seriously. I think you have to make the argument more basic and less specific than you have. I believe the way you intended it is to say that society values men only if they are powerful, therefore men try to be more powerful. You've got a few sentences in there that may make people think you're trying to say that big time CEOs and violent criminals attempt to amass power in order to be more successful with women.

What is crazy is that people simply don't believe that women dominate academia, and they "don't believe" it so hard that they just straight up say you're lying or blind to our bias because of "pervasive patriarchy". Possibly the argument given, but the person arguing would have been objectifying the gender they were defending. Good point, the reverse-Bechdel test would need to disqualify any male/male interaction that exists simply to establish his romantic viability. The fact that traditional male viability is based on their ability to get money and dominate other men would require the reverse-Bechdel to treat these male/male interactions similar to how female/female conversations *about* men are treated in the Bechdel.

Missed replying to the first part of your comment. I certainly like the idea of exposing double standards, but I've never seen advocacy go un-cancelled outside of circles like this. How does one expose a double standard without it being shot down as a "what-aboutism". This certainly feels a little different. At the beginning of those movements there was never any widespread belief that the class seeking rights was already the "ruling" or "oppressing" class. I'm not sure. Any woman who completed grammar school knows that a large man is physically stronger than her. Think about it, one year the girls and boys are all playing soccer together, then suddenly the boys, even the second-string boys are outpacing the girls, and boom, next year, everything is separated. When you can't explain something with logic and current inputs (culture, male role models, etc.) you have to resort to something more primal. I've mentioned that at least 200 years ago, the cold distant male love interest was a "thing". Dangerous violent men were somewhat favored in antiquity. Especially with smaller tribes, the most tyrannical men would have been killed by a group of his would-be subordinates. A man has to be violent enough to be respected, but not so much that his subordinates question his value. So, pure violence and power would be unlikely to be unilaterally desired by females.
