That's fair, and ultimately the healthiest approach.

Smurf's male-pattern hairloss confirmed.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/21 03:30 AM

Been a long time since I've watched it. Certainly, but it does say something about their personality and priorities. I've put in a lot of effort to lose weight, and I think the differences in our preferred lifestyles would cause friction.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/21 01:43 AM

Fair. I was thinking about Shallow Hal, where her primary unattractive feature was being very obese, which isn't a superficial trait, as it says a lot about her. If it was just recalibrating my standards to favor things people could change, and to make it so character weighed more highly, I think I'd go for it.
/r/PurplePillDebate19/07/21 12:43 AM

Anyway, I think men are more obsessed with sizes than women are. Probably, but part of that is that we'd like to be physically, carnally desired by our partners. We don't want to be (just) the "makes her comfortable and has a winning personality" guy because we can see very clearly the worse position those guys are in with their partners, who are generally less willing to try and impress or meet their partners in the middle than they are with more physically attractive partners.

/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 11:12 PM

My thoughts on the matter.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 11:11 PM

I think we might be thinking of different understandings of dropping out. I was assuming you meant becoming a NEET or a bum. I don't think we're viewing things that differently; to me society is, among other things, a selection of available resources to be utilized towards my ends.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 10:52 PM

I mean things like the larger discourse on toxic masculinity, originally a discussion of the expectations men are subject to, now more commonly used to nag men for the fact masculinity is inconvenient to feminism. Certainly, that could help immensely. I encourage women to do what they must to see their interests realized. I think men should do likewise, and we can let power sort it out when they conflict. But in return I don’t want to ever hear another talk about not downloading porn on the scho…

Historically, it was typically a fairly small segment of committed, driven eccentrics that did a lot of the innovating. People create and innovate to see their will realized in the world, not to get pussy. These eccentrics will always exist so long as there are people that find the conditions of society stifling.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 10:40 PM

I'd say smart people would be better off viewing society in terms of their own interests, as a means to see their desires realized, rather that just dropping out entirely (unless doing so best fulfills your interests)
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 10:37 PM

What Slipthe said.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 10:20 PM

No, I really wouldn't want my senses distorted by the will of a wizard with their own idea of what constitutes inner beauty. Additionally I don't really buy that the idea the external beauty of a partner is an entirely superficial trait; how someone maintains and expresses themselves in this fashion says loads about them.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 10:02 PM

I use an electric trimmer every time I notice them bothering me.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 09:57 PM

It's nagging because the men that will actually listen are not the ones raping and killing, and the ones that are aren't sitting on the fence waiting to be told its wrong so they can stop. Further, violence will always be a fact of the world; the perfect society (conceptually a secularized kingdom of heaven on earth) will never come to be; there is no end of history. Nobody agreed to be brought into this world, but we must all come to accept its realities and act accordingly. I do not swoop in a…

Depends on the medication. Wellbutrin and many SNRIs have weight loss as a side-effect.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 09:07 PM

Not continually nagging at men to renounce their nature and not taking such offense at the notion of taking responsibility for your own safety. Currently the focus is on getting the whole of men to change, even though it's a tiny portion of men responsible for this violence.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 08:59 PM

rights My favorite ghost story.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 07:38 PM

This is one of those things that makes me think women would not enjoy it if men treated them like men, since we do not find a fearful nature or physical weakness to be admirable, quite the opposite in fact.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 07:36 PM

I'm not sure what you're getting at. All I want is women to acknowledge that the violence and risk-taking that they benefit from, that men are more predisposed towards, stems from the same facet of our nature as the violence and risk-taking that they are terrified of. Then with this in mind, rather than demanding the kingdom of heaven on earth, in which mankind has renounced its wickedness, to focus more on things that will actually protect them, like improving socio-economic conditions societal…
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 07:29 PM

Yeah, I agree. It's constantly all about trying to understand the lived experiences of women, but never to understand the lived experiences of men.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 05:54 PM

I've said it before, I'll probably say it again: women as a general rule are absolutely terrified of male violence and so react negatively to anything that looks like it might encourage it. Additionally many of the women that post here have very obviously been traumatized by their experiences with men, and so this goes doubly for them. I think the foundational role aggression plays in most aspects of male identity, encouraging both the good and the bad of men is one of those things we'll have a …

I think most people don't find signs of aging appealing. Personally, I think they can have their charm in both men and women as long as they take care of themselves.
/r/PurplePillDebate18/07/21 05:56 AM
5

One thing I agree with feminists on is that we would benefit from celebrating older women more and being more accepting of women aging. Not in the sense of patting their asses and giving them a trophy for existing, but I think more female characters showing visible signs of aging (a big one would be nasolabial folds, which typically set in at about 25) and having more older female actors in leading roles (how many absolutely ancient male action heroes do we have?). It seems to be about the only …

I can see it, and it may very well be part of it, as it would make perfect sense (aside from the social elements you mention, I'd add that people seem to love nothing more than to be able to act thoughtlessly, which being compelled somehow to do something you enjoy would certainly fit). My thought here is influenced by a study which found that cuckoldry as a kink is more common among conservatives, who typically strongly value fidelity and have a stricter sense of sexual morality. This coupled w…

I think it's more the degradation and belittlement of their gender they consider bad, and it's likely precisely because they consider it bad that they find the fantasy arousing.

Our kinks tend to reflect what we consider taboo. Since most women are at least sympathetic to feminism, I'd wager gendered degradation is a common taboo.

Certainly. There's a reason I put "higher" in quotes; personally I think ants, beetles and krill pretty well have this whole "complex organism" business most figured out. I think in regards to behaviors and psychology, we're probably a lot more like the less intelligent organisms than we assume.

That's insane, because as I said, there are clear items of differentia. What does this mean? They lack all primary sexual characteristics of women and often most secondary sexual characteristics. A woman raised as a man will still have an outlook influenced by a lifetime as a woman (e.g. the comparative physical vulnerability and a lifetime of being subject to the male gaze) that form foundational elements of their outlook. Hypothetically, a woman could be raised absent of these, but we live in …

He's being a dick and I'm not privvy to the conversation, but the tendency to base advice on what worked for the best is kind of annoying. It's like using advice directed at 1%er (no, not the bikers) to help them get back on their feet after a failed business venture to tell a guy living paycheck to paycheck how to get out of poverty. Not to say you're doing that (you're generally pretty reasonable even if I disagree, and I'm much too lazy to check) but it is oddly common around here.

Respecting their identity would be being polite to them and not making an issue of it. They have no power to dictate how others recognize them. As for what they are: not women, in the sense that they do not have the bodies of biological women nor the upbringings of biological women. I personally would say they are trans-women.

I hate to be that guy, but he needs therapy. That's not to say there isn't some serious bullshit in male-female relationships that men would benefit from not fucking tolerating, but it sounds more like he's trying to make sense of a traumatic past and restore a feeling of power that his shitty mother took from him.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/21 10:25 PM
1

How exactly is it transphobic to say they're not women? It doesn't suggest scorn or a desire to hurt, only that there are clear differentia that mean they are different.

I used the Will to Power primarily as an immediately recognizable example; Nietzsche largely eschewed metaphysical systemizing, so the idea of the Will as a prior motivating force would be somewhat odd. The concept itself, appearing in some of his aphorisms, forming a component of his moral genealogy and being deciphered from his compiled notes, is not clearly explained, even for Nietzsche. However, the interpretation of it I've come to is that it it's the fundamental motivating force of our psy…
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/21 10:07 PM

Yeah, Nietzsche seemed to view it as a primarily psychological phenomenon, which fits with his general rejection of metaphysics, but I think taken as a possible metaphysical reality, the thing-in-itself of the human mind, it accounts for our natures quite well.

This is something I brought up last thread that I wanted to explore further, and was hoping to get your thoughts on. There was a study done on drinking using fruit flies as test subjects. They found they're remarkably similar to humans in their drinking habits: some try it and then largely avoid it, some will come back to it occasionally and still others will drink so regularly as to cause harm to themselves. But one thing of interest they found is that male fruit flies are more likely to drink …

Be miserable because this urge is like an unhealing injury that will never stop bothering me and hope that I find someone who brings the enthusiasm to be with me necessary for the relationship to not be a slog.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/21 01:45 AM

Ordinary relationships are often one-sided affairs of a man trying to appease a woman who resents him for not being attractive and knows very well she can easily replace him, all the while fulfilling his emotional needs in the sense that the starvation diets used to keep prisoners of war docile fulfills their biological needs.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/21 01:38 AM
9

Why shouldn't they, since that seems to be the only class of man that gets to actually enjoy the experience of being a man, and gets to be treated like an actual man (outside of being taken as a threat by default and blamed for everything women don't like)? For other men, their sex is damn near an extraneous, superfluous quality, that serves only as a source of scorn from others.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/21 01:24 AM

Now many people particularly women have pushed back against this, saying stuff like these guys didn’t want “love” they just wanted their dicks sucked lol. I'm not sure why this is supposed to be such a cutting retort. Men's desires and emotional needs (like the desire/need to be desired and sexually fulfilled) are not worth less than those of women. Romance is not inherently superior to sex.

I find 30% pretty plausible personally, but I'm pretty fucking cynical.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/21 02:00 AM

Maybe, I'm just saying that although culture likely didn't help, many men would intrinsically find sexual frustration and social comparison in this regard painful.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/21 01:43 AM
5

Makes sense, but I'd still say it's evidence worth taking into consideration, especially since everything we've seen on the subject seems to indicate the same essential ideas that women find fewer men attractive than the reverse and that dating is getting harder for men. So even if there are flaws to be criticized in the study, I think it's worth taking into consideration.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/21 01:42 AM
4

Wouldn't that mean the number should be higher, since gay and bi men tend to fuck more?
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/21 01:21 AM
1

I think unsuccessful men would be ripe for radicalization regardless, because being a sexually frustrated man fucking sucks and because it's all the more glaring in such a highly sexual society where you're constantly reminded that there's a class of men so hotly desired that women will make fools of themselves to throw themselves to them.
/r/PurplePillDebate16/07/21 12:54 AM

Well then we're in agreement. I don't think personality has no effect, or even necessarily a small effect, just a much smaller effect than looks. Nobody's patience is limitless, but they seem to be able to get away with a lot more bad behavior. All that said, I don't think I disagree with your thesis on the whole. I just think for men who aren't broadly attractive, romance becomes much more difficult and you get worse results, meaning you have to put in more effort for less, and I think socially…

I don't disagree. I definitely struggle in large part due to being awkward, inhibited, neurotic, poorly socialized and weird. But I also know men who are vastly more disordered than I, sometimes outright dangerous to their partners, who still do just fine and the primary shared commonality is that these men are good looking. In this regard, that if I were good looking enough I'd still find takers regardless of my personality, looks could be said to be my problem. So while I don't think there's n…

Reducing male homelessness, getting more men through secondary and post-secondary education, working to end gender-preferrential practices in university admissions as well as corporate and government hiring (I think anonymizing them would be best), trying to establish mental health approaches that men are comfortable with utilizing and proliferating them, working to reduce legal system bias against men, and making efforts to dismantle the lingering remnants of homophobia in our culture. I can get why you'd be suspicious of a man's opinion on this, but I can say from my own experiences that I have been crazy about women that I didn't make a move on for various reasons. Aside from professional concerns, not wanting to tank friendships or just wanting to avoid rejection, there's also been times where I said to myself "she's just being nice, don't make her day worse by making it awkward." Most men are not suave playboys that just go for what they desire heedless of others and pesky…
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 09:14 PM

That's fair. It might just be that you're sensitive to bitter compounds; many people never lose that sensitivity, and so beer, coffee, broccoli, etc. never sit right with them. My apologies if I'm assuming too much.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:52 PM

Who said he's lukewarm? Lots of guys won't make a move unless there's a totally clear indication of interest, which the standard ones aren't really. These days, men are cautioned extensively against taking niceness for interest, and so readily overlook indicators of interest as false positives.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:50 PM

Not to dismiss your point, but I feel celebrities aren't really a good gauge of such things, as they typically spend fortunes to look good; it's why I always get a chuckle out of manosphere types using George Clooney as an example, as though he hasn't likely spent exorbitantly to maintain his hairline and skin, and on the trainers and dieticians that keep him camera-ready. That said, I always found the idea of "the wall" as a set age kinda strange, since it seems to just be the point at which so…
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:47 PM

I know some fit, good-looking short dudes, and it is still very much a huge difference in their appearance; I think this might just be insecurity talking (no judgment). They even typically have hot girlfriends.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:37 PM

Possibly, but I think this would sort itself out as a lot of women would find men outside their league unwilling to stick around and not complicating the woman's experience of this rejection with sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:28 PM

I think this is a good idea actually. It would also help women get a more clear idea of their league, as men outside of it would be less willing to stick around.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 08:27 PM

He probably wouldn't, which this approach would filter out. But this approach would work for getting men who are attracted, but for some reason aren't willing to approach (which is quite common).

No shame in adding stuff to your coffee.

Not a woman, so I'll post here. Videogames are a massive timesink, I'd call them the junkfood of hobbies. I love both videogames and junkfood, but I try to consume both with moderation. I do think the fact many men are taking videogames as their primary source of fulfillment is inhibiting the cultivation of their own inner excellence, by taking up time they could be using to broaden their intellectual horizons, practice skills or deepen relationships with others, but I also can't be throwing sto…

God no. Those societies didn't really facilitate the interests of anybody except their elite (who were themselves prisoners of them) unless you think a man's interests are being killed in pointless wars or living as drudge animal without significant autonomy or political power. The institution that feminists call patriarchy (and I don't dispute that women largely got relegated to support staff for men) was actually a component of preserving this class structure. What I propose is not moving back…

Nah. Traditional societies callously destroyed men in the interests of preserving the power of their elites. I think any such movement would be focused in large part on bringing class back to the forefront of our social narrative. I'm also not in favor of stripping women of their autonomy and safety net. While the society I envision would still have inequality (in that some will have more than others) it would be focused on ensuring that this is a product of capability and drive, rather than bir…
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 07:27 PM

This has been my experience as well. Men in the position of being the guy who has to impress and romance (as opposed to being desirable enough that she'll meet in the middle with effort) can be in for an uphill struggle of trying to appease someone who remains keenly aware of the fact you can be easily replaced, and will let you know when they want to exercise power over you, which is unfortunately seems to be a fairly common relationship dynamic.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 07:10 PM

Not once. When a customer annoyed me, I'd just do their order to the best of my abilities so I didn't have to hear from them again (or at least for a bit in the case of regulars). That said, fuck food service work, props to those maniacs that thrive in it.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 07:04 PM

I don't personally feel anyone has good advice beyond the basic "look good and be interesting" but I generally find the accounts of men in regards to dating more believable because they more closely reflect my experiences, also it's been my experience that many women will tailor their answers to make team women look better.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/07/21 06:32 PM

That's cool. I don't want men to stop doing that. I would greatly prefer men stop harassing and assaulting women. It is in the interests of any men with women in their lives that they would prefer not be harrassed or assaulted to protect women from men acting abusive and/or aggressive towards them. I think men should view women as being equally self-interested and flawed as themselves, and to pursue their own interests by striving to create a society that fulfills their interests.

Men don't really pay much heed to the the former be because we're all quite experienced with the fact we can stimulate arousal in ourselves even when we're otherwise pretty disinterested in sex quite readily. There's not a guy on this planet who hasn't fiddled his unit even when he otherwise wasn't horny and quite a few men have talked themselves into porking someone they weren't that attracted to. I agree that it's not something women asked for (though I think it's fair to note that many women are happy to capitalize on it) and not particularly fair to hold against women. It is however something that we still need to account for in our society. I find the fussing about porn-induced ED baffling. As though we don't live in a highly stressful society, in which most people are out of shape and overweight, testosterone levels are plummeting and in which more people than ever are taking psychiatric drugs, all if which strike me as much more probable explanations for young men with ED.
