How do you all make ends meet?In my case she isn’t a bad mother. I’m under the belief both parents should be in the kids lives. The problem is that I was moved to a different state due to military service and she voluntarily moved to another state prior to my move. Which now means every time I want to see them it becomes a higher financial burden on me. I don’t see how this is fair | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/04/26 08:19 PM
How do you all make ends meet?It doesn’t seem fair. If alimony were to go away I could be okay but it is literally crushing. It shouldn’t just be blanket numbers on a sheet but the should be looking at the entire situation before blindly destroying someone financially | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/04/26 07:37 PM
How do you all make ends meet?I will be okay once my house sells but still living under a budget. My biggest problem is the amount it costs to go visit my children or to have them fly here. I did a 6 day 5 night trip and it cost me over 1500 in just flight, Airbnb/hotel, and rental. Flights to bring them to me racks up over 2500 every time. If alimony were to go away I could be just fine and be able to see my kids without fear of debt. I just still can’t understand how they see this as fair or even equitable | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/04/26 07:35 PM
How much do you pay monthly child support? How much custody do you have? How about alimony?$1880.00 a month in CS and $1535.29 alimony for 7 years. I only get 6-7 weeks a summer depending on the year and every other holiday with them because after the divorce was finalized she moved states. I wish the alimony would go away because it’s makes it extremely unaffordable for me to make trips across the country for holiday weekends. And holiday weekends are always more expensive and my only availability because I’m in the Army | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/02/26 08:09 PM
Advice on Way ForwardThanks, I reached out to a couple firms yesterday but still waiting for a response and consultation. Have zero desire to use my same previous lawyer. | /r/Divorce_Men | 25/01/26 02:54 AM
I feel like I’m being punishedWhat you’re saying is I thought it would be. All the debt was incurred by her during the marriage by student loans, credit card and her vehicle. For whatever reason in the state of Colorado they are factoring it that way. I will definitely be seeking a second opinion | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 07:22 PM
I feel like I’m being punishedI have gotten paternity tests for the others, they are mine. They are assigning her the bulk of it which is roughly 60k for her student loans. The rest is a vehicle and credit card which I assumed would be split. I have no debts as I used the army tuition assistance, grants and scholarships to pay for my school. As for the retirement, she won’t receive if I do not retire from the army but if I do retire because of the length of the marriage under Uniformed Services Former Spouses' Protection Act… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 07:19 PM
I feel like I’m being punishedYou’re right and I can see now how ignorant I was. It’s a choice I made and have to keep going forward with but looking back it should’ve been my sign. I don’t know if it was because I was young or felt a sense of wanting to do the right thing. But again you’re right it was a red flag I walked into | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 07:14 PM
I feel like I’m being punishedNone of the debt is child related. It’s a credit card, her vehicle used for everybody’s activities, and 60k in student loans. Her parents definitely help and function almost as a nanny. After reading your comment and some others I will be seeking out second opinions now | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 07:12 PM
I feel like I’m being punishedThe $1200 would only be received once I retire from the army. The payout she is receiving is because from all the savings is because the debt is being assigned to her which includes her car, her student loans and her credit card. I currently do not have any debt as I bought all of my vehicles used and have had them for a long time now. This is how my current lawyer explained it as all her debt was incurred during the marriage and it is equitable by the spreadsheet I read. I wont ever receive any… | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 06:43 PM
I feel like I’m being punishedDude, I was 18 at that point and changed the trajectory of my life. Yes, I made the decision to continue to raise him. For all he knows I am his father and that’s all I’ve ever been to him. He’s a great kid and I have zero intention to treat him as anything other than my son. | 2 | I feel like I’m being punishedI plan to at this point because it doesn’t really make sense | /r/Divorce_Men | 15/07/25 06:38 PM
