Ideally I’d like someone to balance out that quality but I get that might be asking too much 😅

I actually feel like first dates are fine for me because i know how to navigate one-on-one, especially from apps because I’m not super invested as they are still a stranger. I’m just terrible at mingling so trying to meet people at events or activities is really hard.

It reads to me like someone said “Be logical. Women could never beat men in a gender war.” The fact that you won’t answer the question is telling. Not to mention in real life there are millions of missing women for that reason. As far as I know these women were banned from Reddit 🤷🏼‍♀️

What are they responding to?
/r/PurplePillDebate17/07/26 11:27 PM

Not really, just curious. Looks like they’re responding to a question. I guess a strictly theoretical discussion of how women could beat men in a literal gender war.

There are lots of romcoms where women pine after a man who isn’t interested and it’s portrayed as sort of pathetic. 27 Dresses is the one I can think of off the top of my head. I agree there’s still I gendered expectation for men to take more initiative and for women to be passive.
/r/PurplePillDebate06/07/26 04:12 PM

I thought she knew he liked her but was trying to initiate a conversation to let him down so he could move on and start thinking about Sarah, since she knew she’s interested. I don’t think it’s clear she likes him.

I’ve pretty much only seen age gap comments about it
/r/PurplePillDebate05/07/26 06:43 PM

Obviously it’s not the only way to create a bond. What you’re saying is that it “creates” a different kind of bond which is the same as the religious teaching the other person was referencing
/r/PurplePillDebate05/07/26 06:01 PM

I don’t get how your comment is different from what they said. The idea is that having sex creates a permanent emotional/spiritual bond.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/07/26 02:48 PM

I grew up with the concept of “soul ties” and never thought about pair bonding as different verbiage for the same idea but you’re right.

I think this statement is by guys who have been affirmed in other traits and heard “you’re such a nice guy” or “you’re funny” a lot but have a need to be validated in also being sexy and attractive. But the insecurity is so deep they need it to be really obvious.
/r/PurplePillDebate05/07/26 02:40 PM
2

You are just wording it oddly. “not disclosing the fact that you had a kid from someone other than your husband knowing full well that’s not the case” Most cases the woman doesn’t “know full well” it’s NOT her husband’s. If she knew full well it’s not the husband’s, then he would know too because they haven’t been sleeping together. She is sleeping with her husband and having an affair, gets pregnant, and there is a chance it is the husband’s. You are arguing that not disclosing the POSSIBILITY …

from some reason to them it is considered "gay" or "sissy" or generally too indecent to wear such clothes. why is that? don't we have gender equality? Men doing anything vaguely feminine has a bad connotation because masculinity is valued above femininity. So, no, we very obviously do not have gender equality.

I wonder if there’s some of an age gap going on. Maybe women who are older were approached a lot and women in younger generations didn’t experience that and have a better view of it?
/r/PurplePillDebate23/06/26 05:33 PM

It would be a turnoff. Homophobia and possibly rape (?) as a joke. In general the implication that being penetrated is humiliating and/or painful doesn’t make me eager to have sex with someone

I mean no, because if someone responded “I don’t mind cooking and cleaning as long as he is the provider” that makes sense. That’s just traditional gender roles. But if they said “no if the man does equivalent behaviors” and I asked what the equivalent behaviors are, then I’d simply expect them to explain what those are. Is it just continuing those gender norms into a long term relationship? What about a context where we go on 1-3 dates? I’m not trying to argue, I’m trying to be a respectful dat…
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 08:25 PM

I also don’t think paying for your own date to avoid the pressure of sex is “reassurance and good faith” so I’m not even sure why you brought up an irrelevant topic you don’t want to discuss
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 07:54 PM
1

I have no idea. That’s what I was trying to ask. They said they don’t mind paying, they just mind doing so “without equivalent behaviors.” I don’t know what that means. At the very least it’s fair to split if the woman isn’t at least engaged in the date conversation-wise and looking appropriate for the venue. Personally I think it’s fair to split it either way but I was trying to figure out what the “hypocrisy” comment was about.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 07:51 PM

Well those things are happening at completely different stages
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 07:47 PM

I don’t mind being downvoted if it’s more “controversial” but some just leave me scratching my head. Like …why?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 02:45 PM
1

I guess that’s fair but if she’s dressing up for a date it is putting effort into the event. I really don’t know what other behaviors she could do on a first date besides being fully engaged in the conversation. I really was just asking a genuine question about what men want/expect out from women on a first date.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 01:30 PM

I’ll be honest I couldn’t afford to date if I was expected to pay all the time
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 01:22 PM

Different people attribute different meanings to the payment issue. It might not be “the ick” but some people assume the man splitting the bill means he isn’t interested or the woman splitting the bill means she isn’t interested.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 01:21 PM

I think the post was deleted. I’m not sure I understand the example. You just mean thoughtful gifts? I think relationships work best if you are both trying to woo each other, not just the man chasing after the woman. Is that what you’re saying? I was thinking more like a 1st-3rd date. If the man pays for me, what behavior/action matches that? I think a lot of women see it as getting ready, putting effort into appearance, etc. which I don’t think men find equivalent.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 01:16 PM
1

What’s the explanation exactly? Libido change with aging? I think that can be part of it as well
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:51 PM
1

I think they just disagree on the cause. RP think it’s hypergamy/women settling for men they aren’t attracted to and BP generally think it’s low effort from the man
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:38 PM
3

Usually they do now yeah. Tinder used to not have it and I finally put it in my bio after getting “oh shit you’re tall” every time
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:35 PM

What behavior/actions would you think match that expectation?
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:31 PM

The montage sprinkled throughout with the (real?) older couples talking about their relationships is one of the sweetest and most romantic things in any movie imo. I love it. TBH I don’t remember as much about the romance between Harry and Sally but the line about wanting the rest of your life to start as soon as possible was really cute and romantic too. Plus the iconic sweater

I agree with you but it seems like a lot of people’s (men’s) criticism is her “leading him on.” The comment I was responding to said “her whole life” so I said that. My point was more that it would be seen as clearly predatory in a gender flipped scenario. I’ve always found the “leading him on” and hate for Jenny so gross and absurd because of the reasons you listed and because she gets abused the entire film yet the take away is that she’s bad for not wanting to date Forrest??? Ok.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 02:22 AM

It’s more that it comes off as seeing the women as interchangeable. Once you’ve asked out more than one it comes off as desperate and like you just want “a girlfriend” rather than actually liking that woman as an individual.

What a ridiculous and nonsensical double standard
/r/PurplePillDebate22/06/26 12:44 AM

Good for her! I would love more people to be open about it and not feel rushed into sex and/or relationship/marriage. I rushed because I felt behind and regret it.

I need to stop dressing like I’ve given up
/r/PurplePillDebate21/06/26 11:16 PM

It works the way a lot of things do online, just get misused and applied willy nilly until they are meaningless
/r/PurplePillDebate21/06/26 10:41 PM

But most media would pass the innie/outie test, it needs to be the opposite way Most media would pass both those tests actually Of course it’s “not real” it’s simply a mechanism for examining gender in media. The reason it caught on is because it’s so simple and yet strikingly hard to find things that “pass” it. But even Alison Bechdel has said she didn’t mean for it to be used the way it’s used a lot of times

/r/PurplePillDebate21/06/26 02:50 PM

That was my first thought. Absolutely not. But a lot of the criticism around Jenny is around how she “led him on.” If a man was hanging around an intellectually disabled woman her whole life, it would automatically be seen as predatory. There’s a lot of valid criticism for Jenny around the predatory nature of sleeping with a disabled man, but I see so much more talk around how she “led him on” and “rejected him,” which is absurd. Also there’s a lot of criticism around her more “promiscuous” beha…

That’s true there’s experiences that make you feel like “less of a woman”. But I don’t think there’s as much of a general feeling you can lose your femininity or that that means as much. We never say “that’s not a woman, that’s a girl!” for example, or you don’t “lose your woman card” by ordering beer instead of a fruity drink.

Yes this is the kind of gender dynamics I find really interesting. I think men have a lot of pressure of living within certain parameters of masculinity that, while women have other issues, don’t apply to women in the same way. It was more of a situationship but long story short we met online, went on one date, I left for an extended trip that he’d done previously and we bonded over that. When I got back and we met in person he was like “I forgot how tall you are!” And slowly stopped calling 😅 We were out one time and I was like on the taller side of where the curb slopes down at the crosswalk and that’s when he said “this is emasculating” and made us switch 🤦‍♀️

emasculation isn’t really possible in a one-on-one setting I’m not sure that’s true. I think a man being told an ex was bigger or better in bed would be considered emasculating even in a private setting
/r/PurplePillDebate20/06/26 07:46 PM

I can see that. I also think it’s a way of being like “please try to enjoy your life instead of insisting on being miserable about being single.” I used to leave every event disappointed that I didn’t meet someone. Focusing less on that didn’t help me meet someone but it did help me enjoy my life more.

No, it’s not. It’s a direct reason why women are disgusted by the suggestion of sexual activity because it’s implied they are disgusting for liking it.

It has evolved as no one thinks it means she is a virgin. The whole tradition really cheapens the wedding ceremony imo

It does help sometimes, or I have bloating after different foods etc. it’s better when I wake up. But either way I know I’m being ridiculous because I am actually thin. I can’t really address it with other women because I’ll just sound like an asshole

Which hike?
/r/PurplePillDebate18/06/26 04:09 PM

That sounds like a horrible experience but why are you extrapolating that to all of dating being a “minefield”? A lot of women find penetration to be a chore because of lack of foreplay, not because of size. If you are experienced with that, size shouldn’t be a significant disadvantage in your dating life.

My family has a tradition where there is a party for the kids at 13. Both my brother and I had a party when we were 13 (in addition to a normal birthday party) where trusted adults in our lives came and encouraged us and gave us advice. There isn’t really any sort of “coming of age” celebration specific to girls in my culture.
/r/PurplePillDebate17/06/26 11:08 PM

I have seen the movie and Bear is a piece of shit but I’ve thought the same thing about the discourse around the other girl liking him. It also implies that his actions would be ok if he didn’t have another option.

I’m a woman but I didn’t date till I was 27 and feel the same. I remember a friend being like “this is something the rest of us all figured out dating in high school.” You really have to hit the jackpot on the first go.

Sugar for sure. I went on a cleanse once and didn't have any added sugar for 30 days. I had a bagel afterwards and it did taste like straight up cake. It was wild

Oh that’s true. I think in the US we use a lot of salt and sugar and the food seems more bland over there. I had a German roommate and she was like “your bread tastes like cake!” And I was like “your cake tastes like bread” love me some apple strudel though

That’s funny. Besides Italy and France I don’t know if I’ve ever heard anyone rave about the food. There’s certain dishes I loved but not the cuisine overall. The big thing is as an American I’m so used to variety.

I was more just commenting that was sort of an absurd assertion by the OP, not arguing with you. I’ll say this- I spent most of my 20’s in a femcel mindset and I don’t think people realize how demoralizing it is. I don’t like when people are just like “oh no you didn’t get your dick wet boo hoo” about men who struggle with dating. It’s not just that. It feels very dehumanizing and like you are missing on a quintessential human experience and there must be something really wrong with you. Every p…

It’s a bit odd but pretty low risk
/r/PurplePillDebate16/06/26 12:08 AM

Yeah of course but that’s not really the point. I think this happens with both genders- people really like things to look effortless. Women like muscular men but dislike gymbros and obsessive food tracking. There’s some kind of aura around this “cool girl” who eats pizza and drinks beer but the expectation is that she is still thin. There’s definitely a genre of man who wants a very thin woman so he can feel big and powerful.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/06/26 09:12 PM

I was looking at this thread https://np.reddit.com/r/TopCharacterTropes/comments/1u61tbh/comment/orp85hq/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button And it’s really striking to me how many men have found it really hot that I can eat a burger and a beer which I know is only because I am thin. I’ve never heard of”it’s so hot that she eats salads!” It’s not about health.
/r/PurplePillDebate15/06/26 08:29 PM

I used the word thinness because that’s what I meant. Not being healthy and having a healthy lifestyle.

Yes I agree that’s also a ridiculous and stupid assumption
/r/PurplePillDebate14/06/26 01:15 AM

/r/PurplePillDebate14/06/26 01:14 AM

I’m confused because what you’re saying is just red pill ideology. They are well aware the “rules” don’t apply to certain men.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/06/26 01:13 AM
2

I’ve heard feminists discuss this, although I agree it usually isn’t related to themselves but connected to internalized misogyny and conservative women. The intent of the term “toxic masculinity” is to separate harmful qualities from good masculine qualities, not to mock men. But unfortunately like many internet buzzwords it’s been widely over applied by unintelligent people to mock men.
/r/PurplePillDebate14/06/26 01:11 AM
1

I agree it’s just become a buzzword but I don’t think it has to cause harm to men specifically. I think it just has to be harmful, to themselves or others. I’d say that the idea a man has to sleep with lots of women to be a man is toxic masculinity, even though it could even benefit himself. The same idea is harmful for other men who may feel “less than” because of sexual inexperience. In the example you gave, I’d say that’s toxic masculinity imposed by the partner/traditional gender roles.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 11:31 PM
1

I am a woman, so none of that applies. My point was that they think of it as a “if she’s slept with ‘Chad’ in 6 hours, and doesn’t sleep with me in 6 hours, then she’s not attracted to me.” But for me there are a lot of factors that go into sleeping with someone, not just physical attraction. Maybe it’s a rebound thing. Sex isn’t a “reward” for men acting a particular way.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 10:50 PM

I know some shitty women, but that statement is just nuts and nonsensical.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 05:38 PM

Hilarious.
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 03:29 PM
10

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your comment, but isn’t toxic masculinity about not expressing emotions or having to do everything without help? Those are some of the top qualities of toxic masculinity. Or are those the qualities you see as in service of women?
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 03:20 PM

I feel like quirky women being upset that Timothee Chalomet is dating Kylie Jenner is the equivalent to men who complain “women only want Chad”
/r/PurplePillDebate13/06/26 02:55 PM

I think a lot is dependent on circumstances and individual chemistry rather than one person’s experience I also don’t know most men’s experience level so it’s hard to say
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 07:44 PM

Yup, no one is nicer than a douchebag who hasn’t fucked you yet.

I’m a woman and have been rejected for not having a good job. I’m sure less than men would experience but it happens
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 07:14 PM

Women try to hard to be nice and end up being unkind, fake, or passive to bad behavior.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 07:08 PM

Is your list extremely specific or you just have chemistry with everyone?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 06:09 PM

But at what point do you decide if there is chemistry there or you are just dating for utility?
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 04:52 PM

That’s exactly what happens to me. It’s not instant so I keep swiping out of boredom. Once people answer it’s too much and I’m overwhelmed.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 02:13 PM

Yeah I think a list is meant to be more of a logical protection against reacting purely with feelings toward someone who is objectively a bad choice
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 02:09 PM

I don’t even think a list is bad per se, but I want to fall in love, not check off a list
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 02:00 PM

For all the comments about women not liking men or women having a checklist rather than actually liking men, it seems like RP men are the ones that actually feel that way about women.
/r/PurplePillDebate12/06/26 01:25 PM

I don’t think so. That doesn’t sound totally “involuntary.” Besides nowadays people use incel to mean more the attitude than sexual activity.

The Matrix and X-Men were also mega popular at that time, I don’t think there’s really been a shift out of traditional masculinity. Some of the heartthrob celebrities are less traditionally masculine now but any of the Avengers are traditional imo and there have always been more androgynous type sex symbols for women. There’s been a bit of a shift with discussions are “toxic masculinity” but there’s still stuff like John Wick who are very masculine but just shift away from the idea that masculin…

I think there’s probably some truth that you will always look back fondly on youth/no responsibilities and sex that doesn’t get clouded at all with other worries in a relationship. But I think the same applies to any kind of new relationship energy.

How is women and men who want to have sex with each other having sex with each other abusing anything? And I’m not sure why you think sleeping with “inappropriate men” means a woman can’t be happy in a LTR
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/26 03:31 PM
4

Why does this always get blamed on the women and not on the “big dick studs”? Not to mention not every woman does that
/r/PurplePillDebate11/06/26 01:53 PM

You can talk about lots of things without supporting it, why wouldn’t you be able to? I find this happens online a lot but you can explain a lot of people’s reasonings for things without agreeing with them. I made the comparison because there’s a lot of nasty people that people deserve to be scammed because they fell for it. It is a similar line of reasoning. It seems like you just want to rant about how women are nasty people?
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 07:33 PM

It’s not a deflection; I don’t support her behavior. I think some women (falsely) see it as a tit-for-tat situation because men have treated them badly, or as a sort of Robin Hood type situation.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 06:40 PM
2

I don’t think that’s how sex addiction works. It has to be a compulsive behavior despite negative results. Having a lot of sex in a relationship wouldn’t qualify, unless it was somehow two sex addicts in a relationship unable to keep a job because they can’t stop having sex with each other.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 06:03 PM

I’d guess a similar reason why some men think men who lie to get sex are cool
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 05:55 PM

I’m in the same boat 🤷🏼‍♀️
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 05:50 PM

I one time had my palm read, the person was shocked and said they’d never seen anything like it. I didn’t have any relationship line at all. It was right after a breakup and I was like… ok… thank you for that info. I don’t do things like that anymore.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 01:29 PM

Depends on the stage of the relationship
/r/PurplePillDebate10/06/26 01:08 PM

I often find legitimate criticisms of women do go hand-in-hand with misogyny. It’s like people are delighted they can finally use those insults because now it’s “justified.” There are a lot of women I don’t agree with or like but the amount of insults and frothing at the mouth while talking about them is fueled by misogyny, which takes away from the legitimate criticisms. There are women that I agree are bad that I still find some of the comments against them to be misogynistic, or the level of …
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 08:23 PM

I don’t understand how that’s contradictory. To me, it makes sense that a female doctor would want to date a male doctor or someone who is similarly successful. It’s up to a male doctor to decide if he wants to date a woman he has to support financially or not.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 08:13 PM

I guess I’m not sure how it’s in bad faith. You don’t do relationships, so I figured you are looking for hookups or casual fwb/situationship.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 02:22 PM

Why are you mad? Just meant what you said makes sense for your goals then.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 03:14 AM

Well then it makes sense you wouldn’t take time to court a woman. I imagine other men do it because they like that woman, and not just as a song and dance for access to sex.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 03:06 AM

Is sex the only reason you date?
/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 02:49 AM

I like people for their personality. Not sure why you wouldn’t think that’s possible. It makes me uncomfortable when men treat me that way as well, as if I checked the right boxes for them so they’re interested.

Ah, that makes sense in that context.

/r/PurplePillDebate09/06/26 12:56 AM

it really didn’t bother me. we are very different and would have never connected outside the specific context we met in, and I’m glad we did.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/06/26 02:42 AM
1

Sure, I guess. I still think dating preferences are different than an entire sociopolitical structure in which women can’t survive without a man. To me it’s a huge leap in logic to think “when women couldn’t open bank accounts they got married more” means “women don’t care about men’s money at all now.” Also I think women in general will admit they want men who are financially stable and are at least on equal financial footing as them.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/06/26 01:59 AM
2

It’s not really a marvelous quality but again not incongruous. I think anyone would prefer to have more money as a couple and/or an equal partner, what does that have to do with needing the money? Do men NEED an attractive partner? No. Would they still choose to date an attractive woman over an unattractive one?
/r/PurplePillDebate08/06/26 01:35 AM
1

It seems like most men and women want this and understand that’s why the other gender wants.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/06/26 01:23 AM

I have never thought about that lol. Probably why I am single

This is one reason I don’t approach men. I know I don’t want to have sex quickly but rejecting him being physical after initiating seems quite strange.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/06/26 12:43 AM
2

What is incongruent about it? Women being financially forced into relationships is naturally going to lead to more relationships. That doesn’t really relate to any preferences they would have for a relationship they are choosing to enter.

I’ve thought about that a lot as someone who was the right age to experience dating before and after OLD became huge. There are lots of men I had crushes on that I probably wouldn’t have had any feelings for after one date from an app.

Tbh I grew up evangelical and that’s pretty much EXACTLY the paradigm they told us. It was really toxic for everyone because there was so much shaming of sexual feelings and then you were supposed to magically feel amazing about it after marriage. What was frightening is the way it set it up post marriage life as a nonstop fuckfest, which was centered around the men. There was never any discussion of consent or sexual self control after marriage. It was totally set up like “you have to be comple…

What you’re essentially arguing is that violence (or at least threat of violence) is social policing and since women are excluded from threat of violence they are excluded from social policing. From there you have to either allow violence against women as well, which means that the biggest and strongest people are in charge of social policing, or take violence and threat of violence out of the equation for men as well.

It’s not just about women, it’s why evil political leaders come into power or why evil people are successful in business or entertainment. It also doesn’t even help the thing you have an issue with. If I come out of a bad relationship and think, “well I am just stupid, there was nothing good about that guy!” I’m bound to repeat the same mistakes, whereas thinking “wow I really ignored these red flags because he was funny and charismatic is actually learning and growing.

I do think women being sexual is seen as empowering in a way that it isn’t for men. I sort of agree with OP, except for the use of pejorative language like “sluts.” I also disagree that men aren’t praised for being sexual.

The question is if abusive men have good personalities, I think it’s pretty dumb and just blatantly untrue to just say no because they are abusers. I agree they obviously shouldn’t be glorified or have their positive traits emphasized repeatedly, but I don’t think we need to lie and act like we live in a binary world where hot, charismatic people are good and ugly, awkward people are bad. Acknowledging that charismatic people can be abusive is different from going “he’s abusive but he’s so hot.”

That’s really silly. Someone can be abusive and physically attractive, talented, or charismatic. It’s not like positive traits are doled out according to moral character, nor the other way around.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
