No. Men are not "responsible" for women's actions. Some men want something from women that they are not willing to give. That's it. You're whining that women have autonomy and don't always give men what they want

When I see people hurting that bad as a result of imaginary problems and wrong ideas, I try to point out the problem. I could say the same about TRP What is your solution to their problems? As a feminist, do you take any responsibility at all for the situation they're in? Well, I'm not a feminist so I can't answer that. Curious that you believe that it's women's responsibility to make sure men have a happy and fulfilling life. Why aren't men accountable for their actions, beliefs, and circumstan…

I live in a very liberal area, so I know quite a few male feminists. I have to say that your analysis completely misses the mark in my experience. My ex boyfriend is a hardcore feminist. He has great self esteem, is highly educated, attractive, masculine, ripped, outgoing, kind, and has slept with more women than a majority of RPs (over 30). The two biggest manwhores I know is are feminists (easily have partner counts approaching 100). They are both attractive and fun, but also rather effeminate…

Some are and some are not. I used to be very oblivious. It seemed like every time I was sure a guy wasn't interested in me he was, and when I was sure he was, he wasn't. I'm much more astute and accurate now, but that came from experience and practice, not some innate knowing. I still get it wrong sometimes.

I was required to read a fair amount of radical political material for a project I was working on in college in 2003ish. They're was some really interesting stuff, but that was also a very different time in social dynamics. Back then, as now, I always found the concept of assigning one's self to a social movement interesting. Though I've chosen to not assign myself to any particular movement, I try to learn what I can about all kinds of groups. Various religions, cults, radical political movemen…

I don't see any of that as a reasonable excuse to call victims liars in general and tout false accusations as even being close to as big of a problem as actual rape. Not only does RPs blase attitude towards rape harm female victims and potential victims, the tendency to call them liars, sluts, or dummies for "putting themselves in a bad situation" is incredibly harmful to male victims. How do you think a male rape victim feels when he hears how trivialized it is? When female victims are blamed o…

You can't ever know 100%, but I have heard that people who flaunt the law a lot are more likely to be rapists. I.E., blowing through stop signs and street lights. That's interesting. I guess it's tied to arrogance, entitlement, and believing the rules don't apply to you.

You don't need to be a feminist or a feminist sympathizer to acknowledge that rape, in general, is a huge problem. I have every bit as much empathy for male victims as i do for myself and other female victims of rape. But let's be real here. Rape stats against women are consistently trivialized, and any mention of the fact that over 90% of rapists are men and you're accused of trivializing male rape and are treated to a lecture on false rape accusations. Did you know that men are actually more l…

Because it won't make a difference. RP consistently denies statistics related to rape, and calls people who share their stories liars and sluts. They teach people that a no is just a yes that needs convincing and that you can't rape your spouse. It's not a problem to them. They won't acknowledge anything that stands in the way of getting laid, ever. It's a pointless discussion.

This has been my experience as well. Only two people ever asked me, and one was in high school. OP was asking where an ugly guy could find a girl to hookup with. If you're a 4-6, you're not ugly. My sister in law isn't ugly, she's just kinda plain, maybe a 5. There are plenty of attractive people on those sites, just not as many super hot people as Tinder.

In that scenario, teaching people to drink responsibly should be the go-to-solution and not tagging everything as rape. Agreed, but that's a very idealistic response. Telling young people not to make dumb decisions is like telling water not to be wet. That's why teaching kids "don't rape" or "don't get raped" are overly simplistic and not practical. Rapists don't care how fucked up rape is.

Well my aspie brother found himself a cute socially awkward wife on Match. She's not a 10, but she loves my brother and is a catch. Offer stands if you feel ready. It's good to have impartial feedback for these things, and I've used dating sites quite a bit.

Plenty of people are raped without offering resistence. If your solution was implemented, most rape of children would be legal. What if you're being threatened? What o if you're frozen with fear? What if you're mentally or physically handicapped? What if you're asleep? What if you're injured? What if you're on powerful prescribed medication? What if you're being consistently assaulted and have given up fighting back?

Mixed messages all around. Even with my debates with RPs, I get mixed messages. I see many claim that men only want to interact with women of they want to bang them, that men think about sex constantly, and then I see RP chastising women for treating them like mindless sex machines and called unempathetic for treating them as such. Every girl in the western world is taught from birth to be wary of boys and men, especially in teenage years. I heard this from my father, all of my brothers, and tea…

I think your concept of a SAHM is warped. The few friends I have who do this don't get to socialize at all and are going nuts from lack of adult interaction.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/11/15 06:22 PM

Try Match. My less attractive friends have had much better luck. Because it's a paid site, the people there tend to be more serious about dating and aren't just scrolling through for funsies. There also tends to be less super attractive people there in general, so your odds are improved. I know you're having a rough time with dating, so I'd be happy to help you construct a profile of you'd like.

There might be a few, but most know to stay away from hookup sites and stick to dating sites. I'm not talking about women who are below average, I'm talking about ugly and severely ugly women. I have a few friends that are quite unattractive, and men just don't even see them. A severely ugly dude needs to realize that life isn't fair and he'll likely never get to hookup with an average or attractive woman.

TRP says the game is fixed, but you can become one of the winners if you work hard enough. Feminism says the game is fixed, and the only winners are a biological group of people who have been keeping you down throughout history. That's a pretty big difference in my opinion. Then you have a fundamental misunderstanding of both feminism and victim mindset.

Not sure what the solution is . As long as someone is capable of mustering meaningful resistance (i.e. not passed out or too inebriated to resist because it would be too exhausting at that moment) but decided not to do so, it isn't rape No. I strongly suggest you get yourself familiar with the law. Just because you feel like something shouldn't be illegal doesn't make it so.
/r/PurplePillDebate26/11/15 06:00 PM

It teaches that the game is fixed, and only the top males can succeed. So become a top male. This is basically what feminists believe. That the game is fixed and the only men were given the chance to succeed. So displace the men. Also, nobody deserves good things. Good things come to people who can get good things for themselves. And those who are best at that don't need a victim mentality to do it.

Yeah, but did you never wonder why that is? When I grew up, I was abundantly informed that fuckzoning was the practically worst thing a guy could do to a girl (well, after actual rape). The point that women as a rule don't really want to have "just sex" was constantly reiterated, also that you're a huge asshole who deserves to be alone and unloved when you sleep with them despite knowing they're into you. What was also conveyed was the idea that this happens all the time and that guys who abstai…

Usually, both parties are intoxicated. If you're sober, then you definitely shouldn't be trying to sleep with a drunk person. That's not a legal gray area at all. It only becomes iffy when neither person is sober.

Don't you already know the answer as to why a normal vacation picture of a man gets fewer women telling him how sexy he looks vs when a woman does? Women tend to look at non sexual situations as just that. Not sexual. Men are more likely to look at any picture of a woman in a sexual way. For example, I posted a picture of me with my then ten year old niece and got a comment that read "you look so fucking sexy in those glasses". My woman friends and my male friends with social skills either comme…

I appreciate both equally, but considering how much more time and effort women generally put into their appearance, I notice myself complimenting women more often than men. Still, telling someone that you like their outfit or their hairstyle isn't really complimenting their appearance, it's complimenting their taste. Very different. Also as an anecdote, every man I've dated has seemed very uncomfortable when I compliment their appearance. The last one even got annoyed when I did. Even with my ow…

I think you might be misinformed on the process. It's incredibly difficult to find a doctor willing to perform ligation on a healthy, childless woman of child bearing age. It's not even close to being as easy to get a vasectomy. I saw nine doctors in five years, no one would do it.

Does TRP not teach is followers that the game is fixed? That it's not them, but women and society in general that is the problem? The self improvement is more of "how to stack the odds on your favor and get them before they get you" than "here's how you become a person who deserves good things"

Very common It stems from insecurity. Insecurity and poor self image are actually very self centered states of mind. My life sucks/ I'm the worst/ no one cares about me/ my life is harder than anyone else's/no one understands . we all feel like this sometimes, but when it becomes a chronic state of mind, the person becomes completely self absorbed in their victim mentality. Right. Taking advantage of someone who isn't in control of their faculties shouldn't be an easy thing to get away with, but sexual assault charges shouldn't be easily brought upon people for gray area scenarios like coming home drunk and climbing on top of your boyfriend (guilty). Not sure what the solution is .

For example, "initiating sexual contact with a [person] while [their] judgment was impaired by drugs or alcohol" is a poor definition of sexual assault or rape. This is such a tough one. By this standard, I've raped and been raped dozens if not hundreds of times (as I would imagine is the case for many/most people). On the other hand, if you're engaging with someone way drunker than you, knowing that their guard is down and that they're vulnerable.... That's pretty fucking rapey. It's tricky.

Being sexist doesn't equate to hating women. It just means I realize the very obvious differences in how the genders operate, is all. Where did I accuse you of accusing us of misogyny ? I may have jumped to that conclusion. I've been accused of attacking TRP lately, even though I've never made any comment of the sort. I just pointed out that this is a common charge levelled at us from BP world, and one do the targets it is levelled at is SPECIFICALLY our protective advice concerning "bad women" which mostly comes under AWALT which the BP world seems to hate with a passion. Where have I accused anyone of misogyny or attacked RP? I would imagine that women utilizing RP tactics and assuming AMALT would likely help them avoid being mistreated. If I assume every guy I date is going to cheat on me, that would probably help me avoid the pain of being cheated on, for example. All I'm suggesting is that it's often very difficult to predict if and when someone is being deceitful or out to hurt you. If it were easy to tell, it wouldn't happen as often as it does. I find discussions on gender dynamics interesting. You're jumping to conclusions and projecting malice where there is none. That's not an effective debate strategy. I find RP pretty ridiculous for a variety of reasons, but I've never even remotely suggested that I don't believe it should exist. I think Mormons hold ridiculous beliefs too, but they're just as entitled as I am to their beliefs.

TRP is not a men's forum designed to discuss varying topics on men's issues and interests. It's a sexual strategy by its own description. If it were a mens forum that focused on a variety of topics that sometimes included dating and sex advice, that would be very different and likely a lot more accepted. I don't have a problem with any sub culture or philosophy existing, no matter how ridiculous or offensive it might be. I don't respect all beliefs, but I respect their right to exist. I hold con…

Out of the 3 million subscribers to cosmo, I guarantee that more people take it as life advice than are subscribers to TRP. Plenty of people read Cosmo for the intended purpose of the magazine. Even so, it is both hated and controversial. TRPs sole intended purpose is sexual strategy and how to woo women. Are you saying that you believe the sole mission and philosophy behind huff post and Marie Claire is sexual/dating strategies aimed at manipulating men? If TRP were simply a men's forum set up to discuss any number of men's interests and topics, but that occasionally published pieces on sexual strategy and manipulation, do you think it would be as controversial as it is now? What I'm hearing is that you are outraged that some women are trying to do to you what you are trying to do to them.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/11/15 04:53 AM

I think the major difference between the two is that no one takes Cosmo seriously. It is a total joke, and the concept of their advice being ridiculous is a cultural trope and has been for a long long time. People read it for the laughs more than anything. TRP followers, on the other hand, do take the advice seriously and implement it. Imagine hundreds of thousands of women actually following Cosmo advice for a moment. Are you suggesting that it isn't? Jezebel is very controversial. I haven't read much from Jezebel, bit I think it's pretty clear that it is not set up for the sole purpose of manipulating men, even though they do occasionally publish pieces on the subject.

You're asking for certain tell tale signs that someone is about to take advantage of you. If these existed and were easily identifiable, no one would fall victim to these people. The reality is that you often can't tell, and that no matter how careful you are, there are still people out there who will lie/ manipulate others with no hesitation. There's no sure way to protect yourself other than isolate yourself from society.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/11/15 03:03 AM

You're probably right. I couldn't venture to guess how common it is, but I think it's somewhere in between "virtually all" and "a trivial amount". As far as sexual fantasies go, I'm sure it's up there as one of the most commonly acted out.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/11/15 07:18 PM
5

Perhaps, but it's a pretty big leap between being sexually submissive and having rape fantasies. Rape fantasies cross the line into kink/fetish territory, which most people don't engage in. So while many (even most) women might enjoy being dominated in the sack, I don't believe that means they would necessarily be interested fantasizing about or acting out a rape roleplay or something similar. And just to be clear, I'll say that I don't think there's a thing wrong with having these fantasies, or…

A lot of women do like to be dominated, but I think "virtually all" is an exaggeration. I used to be pretty active in the kink D/s scene, only I was Dom. There are TONS of men out there who also like to be dominated. I think domination is a very common sexual fantasy in general.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/11/15 06:46 PM
4

No. When i say "in general", i mean in general. You're projecting. It has nothing to do with my opinion, its science. Men take bigger risks with finances (in general. Obviously not every man ever). This is why they tend to make better professional investors. Women tend to be more conservative with funds and take less risks, which is more desirable for household management. You're confusing investing with wealth management. Two very different skill sets.

You're getting pretty emotional about this. Here's the facts. Women are out earning their husbands more and more every year, and most household finances are managed by women. That is what we're discussing, household finances. I don't expect you to accept any study that doesn't reinforce your bias, but here's a few anyway. Not only are women more likely to be in charge of family finances, women are less likely to be in debt in general, and men are more likely to make risky investments. Also, men …

Only comment in weeks that actually made me laugh out loud. I don't know a single household where the finances aren't managed by the women. In my personal finances, I've never let anyone touch them other than myself, and somehow my feeble female brain has put me in a better situation than any man I've ever dated, ever. This is TRP fantasy. If a guy does choose to obsess, and let's that obsession upset him, that's 100% on him. You're arguing that women should be held responsible for men's emotional reactions. Especially if that need is a preestablished deal breaker. So, you're an advocate for nuclear dread? I don't disagree that that can be helpful, but I'm sure that the answer would be "don't do either of those thin…

There's nothing wrong with acting in self interest. If you want to have sex with lots of people, you should. Just don't drag someone else in, demand their monogamy, and then lie and cheat. It's just immature and unfeeling. At the very least, tell you partner what you are planning on doing and let them make a decision.

That's certainly not a simple situation, and the solution will likely not be simple. However, to claim justification for cheating due to your partner's illness is very far fetched. In fact, I think cheating in that scenario (your partner wants to have sex, but illness prevents it), is actually worse than cheating due to general dissatisfaction. Especially because she's your wife. You promised to be faithful even in these difficult situations. I don't know what the fair thing is to do, but it's d…

Mistakes are something that, in retrospect, you wish you would have done differently. I've made my fair share of mistakes, but dating a lot isn't one of them. "Getting slutty with it" can sometimes help people grow up. As in, you learn that not everyone cares about you. It can also be used to cope with some weird hang ups that after coming to that realization that people either don't care about you or you get your frustrations out in this particular outlet, you grow from it and are then ready to pursue a real relationship correctly. When you enter a monogamous relationship, you're making a promise to only sleep with your partner unless other arrangements are agreed upon. If I can't trust my partner to keep the most important promise of the relationship, I can't trust him at all

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with 16 year olds having sex. I had sex at that age, and nothing awful happened to me. I'm suggesting that the potential for abuse and manipulation is much higher in a relationship like OP described, which is why it's often regulated

I think you're missing the most common reason for women using sex: because they want to have sex
/r/PurplePillDebate12/11/15 06:31 AM

There's potential for abuse in any relationship. The point is that a relationship like the one you've described is at a much higher risk for being exploitative and/or abusive, which is why it's often illegal

I don't think that a 16 year old having sex is inherently bad. I was sexually active at that age and came to no harm because of it. I also agree that I don't think this scenario of a 50 year old man having consensual sex with a 16 year old girl is a likely or common thing. I do believe that sort of relationship is likely to be a much higher risk for exploitation than it would be for two teenagers.

Many people who call themselves feminists do so with the core belief that women should have all the same rights and opportunities as men. You'll see many celebrities and politicians adopting this view on feminism. It's a correct description going by the original intent and philosophy of the movement, and I agree with that sentiment. However due to the changes in rhetoric of different branches of feminism, many of these people have begun to describe themselves as humanist instead, which is probab…
/r/PurplePillDebate12/11/15 06:24 AM

The idea behind that is that a 16 year old doesn't have the power or ability to sexually manipulate another 16 year old. That's the point. It's a power thing.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 09:24 PM

So, if they were raped by older women that would be fine?
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 09:06 PM

They are closely monitored. That's why age of consent laws exist
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 09:04 PM

Perhaps. However I don't think most children can give consent. I'm sure there are exceptions, but they would be rare.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 08:56 PM
6

I think what you're missing is the "as long as they are a consenting adult" part. That's like arguing that boys abused by priests should be totally fine because teenage boys generally want sex
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 08:55 PM

Not if both parties are mutually benefiting and consenting. If a man and woman both want sex and both get sex, it's a win for everyone.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 08:53 PM

And, do men have personal authority over women? So... is feminism bullshit, or are all heterosexual relationships the same as statutory rape? In this example, neither. While it can be argued that men have political power, and sometimes even personal power, that would not apply in the arena of consensual sex. Women have all the power there. Has to be one or the other here. Only if you believe that the world is made up of generalized black and whites, which I do not.
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 08:49 PM

I don't think most do. Women like sex. People have all kinds of reasons for having sex. Pleasure, intimacy, fun, as an expression of love, to make babies, because they're bored, and yes sometimes to manipulate. I don't think any of those are exclusive to either gender. Both men and women have sex with ulterior motives sometimes. For example, using it as a means of increasing their partners feelings towards them. Sex can be an effective weapon in the right circumstances, but I don't think that's …
/r/PurplePillDebate11/11/15 08:25 PM

I think you're confusing political power with personal power. A 50 year old man has power over a 16 year old due to his ability to manipulate and exploit his authority as her elder to get what he wants from her. A white individual has no such power over a black individual, all other things being equal.

Your question is over simplified, but yes I agree. The straw man radical feminist that is so often debated represents a tiny sliver of people who align with the feminist movement. The trope of the most controversial and extreme of a group getting a lion's share of the attention doesn't exist for no reason. I would guess that the same goes for those who align with MRA, but it's not apples to apples. Feminism has had decades of momentum to give rise to endless variations of interpretation of core …

Yes, because we all draw our line at what we personally feel signals promiscuity. For some (largely the incel fuckwit crowd) that's 0 or 1 partner, although where they think they'll find virgins in this day and age I have no idea, for others it's at more reasonable levels. Don't you see how broad that definition is? You ask ten TRPers what constitutes a high n count, and you'll likely get ten different answers. "Slutty behavior" is completely subjective. Some believe that a woman's clothes, or the fact that she has a high sex drive, is polyamorous, speaks frankly about sex, is flirty, or is into kinky shit makes her a slut. Not if they're losing sponsors. The NFL doesn't give a shit about morality or sending a good message, they want money. Bad press causes sponsors to pull out. They've fired players for grand theft and violence against men too.

I think it has more to do with the fact that professional athletes are high profile, and that they work for enormous corporations. If he had been a janitor or a chef, he would be less likely to be fired for these crimes. The NFL wants to protect their image and their money. They can't have their employees consistently making headline news for violent crimes and not do anything about it, the public wouldn't allow for that. The NFL has a recent history of firing players who are involved in crimes.…

Historically, women needed to find husbands as a matter of practical survival. For most of human history, intense sexual attraction, common interests, and other paramount concerns of today's dating market were just nice bonuses, not priorities. Same with children. They were needed in a family unit as workers. Kids used to earn you money and food. With globalization, modern life, and feminism, all this has changed. Just about anyone in the western world can make it on their own with a little hard…

I do find many people under 25 super self absorped, I think I probably was as well but I wasn't blasting it on social media so nobody ever knew I think about this a lot. I thank the gods that social media wasn't a thing when I was in high school. I like to think that I wouldn't be as stupid as many of the teenagers I see blasting their moronic decisions and opinions on Facebook and such these days, but maybe I would? We all did stupid things as teenagers and young adults. Some of us were just lu…

THEN ignoring the fact that almost all the numerator occurs in prison! (Which is why, immediately on being challenged above, I straight away ruled that out... Knowing full well that's the vast majority of male rape victims). Didn't ignore that. Even with prison rape being a majority, the stats show a wash. Why don't you believe that prison rape should be taken into account at all? Millions of men are incarcerated, why discount it all together? No, not the data you are using. That's survey data. …

Well clearly if you don't accept the statistical information, you won't trust the results. This is obviously very difficult if not impossible data to pin down to any precise degree. But you're still ignoring major factors. Most prominently that men are considered much more likely to go without reporting sexual assaults, so any data on male victims is going to be artificially low. Also, the data gathered in the second link was from victims who were assaulted before the age of 18, which would sigf…

Even with prison assault factored in, that still leaves just under 1 million male rape victims. Factoring in to the 1.6 million false accounts risk factors that increase chances of false accusations, such as preexisting criminal records and behaviour such as frequenting prostitutes, it's a wash for average men. So, the average Joe college student is still about as likely to be sexually assaulted as to be wrongfully accused of sexual assault. Again, this is assuming that 100% of the falsely accus…

Women are thought to be at least slightly more likely to make false claims, but the stats for that are crap. I don't know what a prudent estimate would be so let's include all the men. This means that our final result wi…

Right. It's a very difficult crime to prove. Even with the reality of rape being at times impossible to prove or disprove, false sustains accusations and convictions are still more likely to occur with almost all other crimes. I truly think that most men are not commitment phobes, not just because of my dating experience, but because of my all around life experience. I hang out with a lot of single dudes. Most of them are musicians and tend to fit the RP stereotype of "bad boys". Most of them want/have long term girlfriends and wives that they are dedicated to. Some of them are cheaters or players, but only a few. I don't believe that it's even close to being as common as RP believes.

No. The vast majority of all men are getting laid. Of course hotter people have more sex with other hot people. That has nothing to do with gender dynamics. That's how attraction works. Of the remaining 30%, it's estimated that at least a third to half of those are filed by the man ONLY because the wife has made his life so intolerable and unbearable that he has no choice but to file and leave the marriage. I touched on this in pervious comments, but my experience hasn't been like that. I haven't been "slut shamed" by anyone since high school, but the boys were always much much worse than the girls. I'm not trying to be mean, but your comment just reeks of bitter confused teenager. If you are a teenager, rage on. If you're not, I suggest a major reality check. The Internet is great to connect and vent, but there's a whole world out there that is not a black and white as you believe.

It's the same thing with breasts. Most men are pretty open with their appreciation of a nice big rack, but I don't think I've ever known a guy who would straight up reject someone solely on their breast size. Ideals are just that, ideals.

That's what makes it a uniquely terrifying crime. Literally anyone could be driven to theft, assault, and even murder in the right circumstances, but only a true sociopath could rape. No normal person gets so angry/horny/drunk that they spontaneously rape someone

Not really. Penis size is unique because a vast majority of men fit right into average. It's actually rare to not be average. So unless a woman has had the incredible luck of only seeing exceptionally small or large dicks, her idea of average will be spot on. What women do suck at is accurately estimating how big a particular dick is, because we don't usually break out a measuring tape during sex, and humans are famously terrible at estimating without using tools.

Sadly yes. Two years ago I was walking home at night when a guy tried to stop me for a conversation, I refused and kept walking. He sprinted up behind me, grabbing me in a bear hug motion and slammed me to the sidewalk. He dragged me around the corner and started fondling my breasts and trying to take my pants off. I was in such shock I couldn't even scream, I just kicked as hard as I could. Luckily, a pedestrian saw it and screamed at him, he ran off and she called the cops. They caught him and…

No, modernism worked. Women don't have to be "dependent on men" in many nations on which feminists have never set foot, notably in parts of Europe, East Asia, and South America. Changes occurred because of modernism and industrialization. In many of these places, women have had opportunity on par with men for decades or even centuries, and have continued to evolve with the modern market. In other words, they didn't need a feminist movement. Don't you think that the men themselves should be respo…

Perhaps a bit of both? In previous generations, finding a husband was a matter of practical survival. These days, anyone can survive or thrive on their own if they try. Men didn't need to put a lot of effort into getting a woman before, and now they do. Perhaps it's s combination of women holding their partners to higher standards, and some men not adjusting to the changing social dynamics quickly enough to catch up.

Women never had it "much worse than men", ever. Not 100, or 3000, or 40,000 years ago. If you study history you'll quickly see men were the victims of most horrific suffering and far more frequently than women as well. That depends on your perspective, doesn't it? Even as recently as 60 years ago, women were essentially forced to depend on men for any kind of security. 100 years ago, a woman making a decision to not marry or have children would be signing up for a very rough life, with the excep…

It's a dramatic made up number created specifically to fit your narrative. The fact remains that a vast majority of men do get married and have children. Some of those who stay single do so by choice, and a very very slim minority stay single against their own desires. I'm not saying that doesn't suck for the men who wish to marry and have families who never fulfill that desire, I'm sure that's awful. This is not an issue of women advancing, but an issue of men not being empowered to advance wit…
/r/PurplePillDebate30/10/15 09:01 PM
3

That's what you're implying. You're claiming that the rise of women is to blame for your (greatly exaggerated) perception of men falling behind. If half the population is advancing while the other is staying stagnant, wouldn't the logical conclusion be that we need to figure out how to advance men instead of blame the success of women?
/r/PurplePillDebate30/10/15 08:57 PM
4

Correlation =/= causation. It's very likely that low-earning and uneducated men stay single because more highly educated and higher earning women don't see them as suitable partners. I'm still waiting for an answer as to why this is an issue for women to solve. Edit: it's also worth noting that a vast majority of men do become husbands and fathers

As long as the top 20% of the men get all the attention a decent chunk of the 80% That's a totally made up and false statistic. You have to know that. I'm not saying that I don't believe that some men give up, not believing that they will marry and have children to support and that it effects their career choices. I'm asking why that should be thrust on women to solve. We can't solve it without giving up our hard-earned gains of equal opportunity and autonomy. If women can go from being totally …

I'll tell you what, I'll source my claim of decline in manufacturing jobs due to technological advances (which should be intuitive and obvious), if you source even one of the ridiculous claims you've made. Prove that men will not choose demanding jobs because they aren't needed by women. Prove that there's a decline in male income outside the trajectory of the economy.
/r/PurplePillDebate30/10/15 07:55 PM

So what do you think is the solution? Creating a society in which women are once again dependant on men, or empowering men and boys to be more motivated? Also, as far as I know, there's no dire shortage of men pursuing trades, and any decrease is largely chalked up to the growing tech industry.

I wouldn't necessarily label all men who supported the original goals of feminism feminists. Most men believe women should have equal opportunity. I'd also say that the "new model" is going to have problems specifically because there won't be enough men to power it for you. You're already rejecting the men who would otherwise be there to finance it, change the oil for you, fix the toilets, and do the heavy lifting. Those men won't be there when you need/want them. They're not being killed off, they still exist. If I need someone to fix my toilet, I hire someone to do that. I don't need anyone to finance me, I do that myself. I understand t…

Plus, "empowerment" through education and work is, well, pretty hard, and most of them aren't suited to it, and don't really want it once they discover what's actually involved. Source for this? I don't see it as a pyrrhic victory, just a victory. Our mothers and grandmothers were practically forced to get married and have children. If not for societal pressure, than for economic need. Modern times have shown us that given a viable option, many women choose to remain single and have fewer or no children. I'm 32, unmarried and child free by choice. It seems like your understanding of fluidity is different than mine. When I say that I'm sexually fluid, I mean that my preferences change based on my current mood or circumstances. Lesbian sex is so hot. I'm never not in the mood for lesbian sex. I also love penises, but like you said it's a roll of the dice. Few men have the physical ability to go for hours, and some men don't really consider the woman's pleasure a priority. I've never encountered this with women. Sometimes, I enjoy the straightforward nature of straight sex, and I always enjoy the company of men. I just could never choose between the two.

I suppose it depends on your understanding of suppression. I think of it like a denial. I don't deny my negative emotions, I acknowledge them, feel them for however long I want, and then decide to "change the subject" in my mind by focusing on something that makes me feel good. I don't think denial helps in the long run.
/r/PurplePillDebate29/10/15 12:42 AM
2

Because it's a natural physical reaction. I think you're confusing not feeding into emotions with suppressing them. Controlling emotions is the difference between recognizing a natural reaction, and choosing to let it control your mind and behavior. Something outside of myself might make me feel immediately sad, but I can quickly choose to focus my energy on something else and choosing to feel better.
/r/PurplePillDebate28/10/15 07:01 PM

I have no problem acknowledging my emotions, feeling them for awhile, and then releasing them. It takes practice, but anyone can control their emotions. However as I've said, I'm just not a jealous person in general. I think competitive people are more likely to get carried away with jealousy, and it's partia…

We can't control what happens to us, we control our reactions. Of course in that scenario I'd be immediately offended, but I still choose my reaction. I can yell back, cry, lose my temper, stew about it all day, give the finger, or simply walk off. It's the same with jealousy. Think of it like a flash of anger. When anger arises, you have several choices. You can either feed into it, allowing it to amplify, or you can take a step back, take deep breaths, think about the situation logically and calm yourself down. Same with sadness. We can either set ourselves in a downward spiral by feeding into worst case scenarios, or choose to focus on something neutral or positive. I don't believe that not feeding into an emotion is suppressing it. We can either control our emotio…

I hear that pretty often, that successful relationships can't start at bars and clubs. I know a few married couples that met this way, and I wonder where this sentiment comes from. All kinds of people go to bars and clubs, it's a social setting where people meet. I've met a few men I've dated at bars. No country has tougher competition for sex and career advancement than Japan. Work schedules are important, but not everything. If one parent is working 20 hours less a week than their partner, and the kid is healthy and cared for, it's pretty reasonable to deduce who is doing the work. Perhaps you're right, but this behavior has not been exclusive to attractive men in my experience. It's a pretty even mix of attraction level, ages, and cultures. My point is that you don't have to be ugly to be a creep. All kinds of men can be creeps. It's a behavior, not an appearance.

I have no idea, but I don't think that's important. Obviously, labeling any lifestyle or philosophy and those who align with them as "bad" is subjective. This can be argued without speculation on why individual marriages fall apart and what H/W dynamics may have existed. If two parents are both working and providing for the household (as most are), but one parent is taking on the lion's share of housework and childcare, there's an imbalance that can't be accounted for simply by comparing paychecks. I don't take either side, so I'm going to speculate based on what I've read here. As some people have mentioned on this thread, a lot of these "problems" don't really exist (at least top the extent that RP suggests) outside of internet bubbles. Many men have found happy and fulfilling relationships with women while shunning just about every RP philosophy and ideal. Most notably the undertone that women are generally out to manipulate and take advantage of men. There's also an obsession with gend…

I think a lot of BP folks don't see the issues that RP presents as problems. If it's not a problem, why require a solution?

http://mobile.nytimes.com/2007/08/12/weekinreview/12kolata.html?referer=&_r=0 http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nsfg/key_statistics/n.htm It's worth noting that any stats on something like sexual partner count must rely on self-reporting and therefore should be taken with a grain of salt. It's also worth noting that I have never been able to find any study that reports anything but men having a higher partner count than women, only slight variations in lifetime partners. Edit: this is the link I was origi…

I think you're misunderstanding the question. OP is suggesting that women are more experimental, not more promiscuous. I'm not sure if it will interest you to know that statistically, women have a lower partner count than men. But like I said, that's not relevant to the discussion here.

I live in the Pacific northwest, and I'd say it's highly respected. Here, it's taken for granted that whoever you're talking to holds far-left, ultra tolerant, and feminist leaning political ideals. It's just the norm.

I'm not sure partner count is the subject at hand. We're talking admit experimentation, which can be done alone, within a monogamous relationship, or with multiple partners. I believe OP was arguing that women tend to be more experimental than men, regardless of context.

Wouldn't that be highly individualized? Not everyone is well socialized. One of my close friends comes to mind. She was homeschooled until college and then was just super shy and awkward, didn't make any real friends until her early twenties and didn't even go on a date until she was 22. I'd say she was pretty naive. Same would go for a lot of people.

What I'm trying to explain to you is that financial abortion has nothing to do with body autonomy. I don't see how it's advantageous to advocates to compare it to something very obviously different. If you read my commentary on this subject, you'll see that the issues I have with this system don't apply to abortion at all. I'm for any reform that does not leave children to suffer. Children who are never born do not suffer consequences of their parents choices (if you believe fetuses aren't child…

18 years of work doesn't involve bodily autonomy? Imprisonment for not paying doesnt conflict autonomy? By the very definition of body autonomy, no. People say it's different because it's undeniably different. Why is it important to you to compare the two issues? Can't you argue the merits of financial abortion all on it's own?

While I don't personally agree with the above statement because I support abortion, I certainly don't think it's outrageous. It's a perfectly reasonable opinion. As far as it pertains to this discussion, I think it's apples and oranges. One issue is directly tied to body autonomy, the other is not (unless the man was raped). Body autonomy trumps all for me.

I've seen a few people make this claim, but I'm not sure I fully understand it. Do you mean that men are more likely to explore, for example, new and different pornography to find out what they might be into, whereas women are more likely to request their partner indulge them in something new?

I can only speak from my own personal experience, and it's worth mentioning that I'm a weirdo and most of my lady friends are also weirdos. Money is very rarely discussed in my circle when talking about dating and men. Personally, I find a high degree of wealth a bit off putting. I'm comfortable, but I've never been rich. I just don't think I could have enough common experience with a wealthy man to have an equal relationship. In the few relationships I did have with wealthy men, the money thing…

With rationalization that simplistic, one could just as easily say "don't have sex with anyone you wouldn't be willing to have a child with" Wouldn't this problem be essentially eliminated with options of widely available male birth control? It seems like the best solution to me. Everyone has power over their fertility, no one gets to irresponsibly create a child and walk away from it.

I'm curious where you sense any bias towards a prioritizing of women's rights anywhere I'm my commentary. It seems to me that you're arguing with whatever perception you have of me and my beliefs, and not listening to my actual arguments. I'm not expecting us to agree, but projecting all that nonsense onto me is not conducive to a rational debate. You can go back deep into my comment history and see that I am very much in favor of reform to the current system. I'm just particular that whatever s…

Holy projection! Go back and read my commentary. Never do I mention concern for the rights of mothers. I've been very clear that my problem with this system is the fact that children will be made to suffer consequences for the actions of their parent(s). I would be willing to get behind any reform 100%, as long as the kids are left out of it. That is why I stand by my statement that I believe mitigating risk is the best and most viable solution to this problem.

You're ignoring the enormous potential of couples becoming pregnant as a mutual agreement, only to allow the father to duck out when his partner is already pregnant, leaving her with the option of unwanted abortion/adoption or single parenthood. What consequences will the man face? Nothing. At all. Total freedom from consequences to shitty choices. Free to impregnate and abandon as many women as he chooses. I believe in accountability for both parents. No one should get to create a child and wal…

Your warped view of normal reality makes it difficult to have a logical discussion with you. Like I already pointed out, it's tricky to judge any system based on potential abuses. You're fixated on potential abuses of the child support system, and presenting them as the norm. It's impossible to have a balanced discussion when you only acknowledge potential abuses for one system, and refuse to acknowledge the potential abuses for the other.

You believe that men should be able to engage in risky behaviors without accepting the risk. You can parrot all the tired semantics that you want, but at the end of the day you just don't believe men are accountable.

A woman can only "dump" the child at a safe haven if the man is also unwilling to care for the child. Also, surrendering a child is a pretty major consequence

no one has to have sex, either. It is not uncommon for a couple to be responsible with their birth control and still become pregnant. Not everyone believes in abortion. Unplanned children will always be born. I don't support any system in which the child pays the price for being unplanned. The best solution is to empower men to have better control over their fertility. "Don't have sex" will never be a practical and realistic solution. People have sex, accidents happen, leave the children out of …

There it is. You believe that men should have the right to irresponsibly impregnate and walk away from women and children totally free of consequence. You believe that women and only women should be responsible and accountable for their actions. How do you think this will change when male birth control becomes available? Do you believe that men should be able to either lie about being on birth control or misuse it, impregnate someone, and still not suffer consequences? Why aren't men responsible…

I'm not against men's rights at all, I consider myself very well in favor of them. There is one group I care about more= children. In the current system, both parents pay the consequences for unplanned children. In a system of financial abortion, only mother and child suffer the consequences. I believe that we can do a lot better to support men in regards to reproductive control, but I do not believe that financial abortion is the solution to this problem. The solution lies in mitigating risk, n…

If you're advocating for accountability, why is the man considered a victim to you? We could just flip it around and say what anti-abortion advocates tell pregnant women: should have kept it in your pants! Obviously, that's unrealistic and overly simplistic. The fact remains that if two adults create a child, they are both responsible for it. Creating a system that not only allows for but fosters irresponsibility will not solve this problem. Like I've said, this is a problem that deserves discus…

Not always. Some women keep the kid because they are morally opposed to abortion. Many women who become pregnant do not want children at that time, but believe strongly in taking responsibility for the baby. Single parenthood is no joke. It's outrageously expensive and consumes every aspect of the parents life. Considering that child support usually only covers childcare expenses, the financial incentive of child support is not reality for a vast majority of single parents. Even if a system only…

Pregnant is pregnant, the woman will still have to deal with the consequences if it's I'm the first trimester. The main difference between these two systems is who suffers the consequences of unwanted pregnancy. In the current system, it's both parents. Within a system of financial abortion, it's only the mother and the child. Like I've stated before, my issue with financial abortion is that I do not support any "solution" that causes the child to pay the consequences of unwanted pregnancy.

Ok, let's flip the script. Let's say that two people are in a stable relationship and decide mutually to have children. Once the woman becomes pregnant, the guy decides he's changed his mind and gets a financial abortion, forcing the woman to have an abortion against her will or be a struggling single parent. It's tricky to judge a system based on the potential abuses. They're will always be those who abuse rights.

I'm not saying it should be difficult for men. I'm saying that financial abortion isn't a fair or feasible solution to this problem. I don't believe anyone should have the power to create a child and then abandon it. It is not uncommon for two people to do their very best to prevent pregnancy and still end up with an unwanted pregnancy. Why should the onus be 100% on the woman to deal with the consequences? What I do believe is that there should be more birth control options for men and better s…

They are viable options, but they are not options free of consequence. They are consequences. Abortion is an expensive and painful ordeal, and adoption is much worse.

Abortion is expensive, painful, and potentially traumatizing. It's far from being an easy fix. Adoption is worse. Just grow a human in your body, accept all the risks of pregnancy, give birth, and pass it over to strangers who may or may not find a loving home for it. Easy! /s

Why should there be an an option for creating a child and walking away consequence-free for men only? There never has been and never could be for women. I really wish there was a feasible and fair solution to this, I really do. I do not believe in empowering anyone to make babies and then leave them to potentially live in poverty. This is a tough one, because no one really agrees on what makes someone a slut. Some people believe that a woman who has sex before marriage is a slut, some believe the line is at 3, 5, 10, 20 partners. Some believe that certain clothes make someone a slut. Some believe that a woman who really likes sex, watches porn, or is kinky is a slut. It's similar to calling someone an idiot or a pussy. A woman who is considered a slut by one man will seem totally normal if not highly desirable to another.…

If they are in a situation where it's appropriate and wanted, they are delighted to see a dick If they're minding their own business and a stranger randomly shows them their dick, they are horrified. Women don't like men who lack self control. Pretty basic stuff.
