Yep. No point in doing otherwise

Sweet sweet freedom, once you get over the heartbreak. I work a 2 week on 2 week off schedule and my two weeks off these days are absolutely fucking amazing.

Mine pulled the same shit with me. One day I got smart and I haven't said or heard a word from her since.

I don't. I'm not making that mistake again. Date. Screw. Have relationships. Never trust.

The problem is that it won't look or feel like you did everything you could. You are going to feel like a fucking idiot and a sucker and your resentment will be unrecognizably more than it would be had you done this correctly. Source: I was you.

If only I had these answers for myself.

You have described my ex wife in ASTONISHING detail. You need a lawyer. And stop worrying about the dogs. I am serious. You need to be worried about you.

Couples therapy means it is already and has been too late. It's just a way to get you vulnerable and possibly incriminate yourself.

Oh trust me man. Once the dust settles and you start feeling out your freedom at your age, the sex, the cuddles, the conversation, etc all start to show in a different light. I can't imagine paying so much for so little ever again. I miss having a woman to loaf on the couch with when I am watching TV but that's literally fucking it.

Women are emotional chaos. Even the good ones. I can't imagine what I could need that would be worth that. It doesn't sink in how much trouble they are vs what they provide until you have been on your own for a while.

It's been almost two years and I have ZERO interest.

Get a lawyer and tell him you want to preserve every fucking penny possible. Stop being nice. Divorce is war, like it or not.

Fuck no. FUCK NOOOOOO. Why? Cause I did. And I never saw a dime back.

I jerk off. Sex with women is absolutely not worth the effort to me anymore. I can easily go without by devoting one brain cell to remembering what inevitably comes with it, including the possibility of me catching feels.

Always get a lawyer as soon as humanly possible. While you are dragging your feet wishing for reconciliation she is plotting maximum damage.

This is a delaying tactic by her lawyers, often used to increase the amount of billable hours from your lawyer to make you feel financially cornered and panic. Disclose everything to YOUR lawyer and tell your lawyer you do not want to participate on this game. My ex did this so often my lawyer ended up capping what he would charge me. And we reversed our stance on legal fees due to her lawyer requesting so many constant financial disclosures. Absolutely request the exact same from her. Might fin…

I bought my ex out of the house using my 401k via QDRO. Time to sit down, take a deep breath, and listen to your lawyer. He will negotiate the split with your exes lawyer. It's very simple if you can manage to not get emotional about the process. It is going to be expensive, even if she wants an amicable split her lawyers will talk her into going after every penny, it's in their interest. But, if you have a good lawyer he will get you out of this with as little bleeding as possible. It's going t…

Not worth it. Opening yourself up to punitive action by the judge.

I cannot stress enough how much of a gigantic mistake sending this to her would be. Put it on paper sure, but do ANYTHING OTHER than sending this to anyone.

Get a lawyer. File first. DO NOT move out. You have an enemy now, and you need to get resolute and cold and start working on preserving your assets, mental and emotional health, and not ending up broke and broken over a woman. Things will work out just fine if you can commit to being an advocate for yourself.
/r/Divorce_Men05/09/25 07:57 PM

That's like 1/16th of the picture. Tell your wife to eat shit, get a lawyer, and do it right.

Mine did the same thing except never told me. Just moved out while I was at work. Hilarious in retrospect.

That's the way shit goes sometimes. Not trying to say it's fair. But when you are in a situation like the OP's, doing nothing can literally be the best strategy.

Trust me when I tell you guys, just do nothing. Don't fight, don't file shit, dont give up anything. Be a reed in the wind. An available reed in the wind. Your kids will hit their late teens and early twenties and suddenly become aware of all of the bullshit, and things will be fine.

Get a lawyer!!!!!! This "amicable" shit is never the case with women. Whether you like it or not my friend, she is absolutely 110% your WORST ENEMY. They all do the amicable/mediation routine because it puts you off your guard and gives them a step ahead. It's a lie and a strategic move against you. Get a lawyer, fight like hell for what is yours, and damn the torpedos. My ex talked a long game bout amicability and all that and it just gave her time to plan and work with her lawyers while I was …

I would argue it depends on the egregiousness. I am sure I should have gone for it, but in most cases I absolutely agree with you. Stop the bleed and gtfo.
/r/Divorce_Men27/07/25 01:04 AM

There is. The judge can absolutely get punitive for this shit. I wish I would have done it during my divorce.

Divorce isnt what we are brought up to believe is a "manly" thing to do. That time is long gone. Don't be manly. Be smart.

Not the greatest idea in most cases.

It is always advantageous to file first.
/r/Divorce_Men21/07/25 11:32 PM

Your daughter stays with your parents. You stay in the home with your phone recording audio 24/7. You get a lawyer and file for divorce. All of this immediately. Your wife is long gone. Don't let her take your finances and security with her .
/r/Divorce_Men21/07/25 06:35 AM

Nope. Stop the bleed before it starts. Hit fast, hit hard, be done.
/r/Divorce_Men18/07/25 07:16 AM

This is a question for your lawyer. Never sign anything without your lawyer reviewing it. Ever.
/r/Divorce_Men18/07/25 03:59 AM

You need to step up and file first. Also, encourage her to leave the house. There is no saving the situation, only saving yourself.
/r/Divorce_Men18/07/25 03:48 AM
10

I'm not doing it. I don't see the point. Society says we have to have a woman with us to be complete, but I am feeling pretty damn complete at work, at home in my house, doing whatever I want to do, whenever I want to do it with absolutely ZERO feedback from anybody else. Try it on for a while.
/r/Divorce_Men17/07/25 05:14 AM

So keep it and sell it. You are walking away from money. Stop moping and start thinking about this purely financially, because that's what this is right now. A financial war. And you are being manipulated to lose it.
/r/Divorce_Men15/07/25 12:07 AM
2

Tough shit to her. Keep the house. I did and it ended up paying me back double what I lost.
/r/Divorce_Men15/07/25 12:04 AM

If you start before you even think you need it yes. If you start after you even think you need it no.

I work way remote at a mining camp in Alaska. Hucked it off the back of the boat into the Lynn Canal. Really fucking deep and cold water.

They do not think in terms of principles and logic. They just flat out don't. It's all service to self and brood.

Please please please do not leave the house and do not go out of your way for her because you are some great guy or other such BS. She is counting on you doing exactly that and it will not help you.

I'm in the same boat, except I paid every cent for the house, it's in shit shape (for now). She already moved out but I don't think the judge will care. It has me in full on fight or flight right now. That house means everything to me for a million reasons. I have no idea how to keep it. And it's making me crazy.

When you go down this road, you need to be vigilant in reminding yourself she isn't the person you loved. You can be curious about who she is now but just that. Curious. Don't try to identify with it. Be compassionate. Poor thing lost her fucking mind for any given number of reasons. It's SAD. And it sucks. It wasn't about you. And she is more than likely going down a bad bad road and since you can't save her anymore, be sad for her. You are losing your shit because you care for the her you knew…

I'm considering this as well. There is NO reason I should be doing what I am doing when the whole point was to make a nice life for stbxw. I don't need the money. Or the insane stress that has always come with it.

Update: Got home off rotation to a clean house empty of her things except a couple pictures of me and her and her kid on the bedroom wall. No letter no bullshit. It's fucking peaceful for ONCE. Not looking over my shoulder just WAITING for it. The other shoe will drop. And I hope it is not tonight. Stay strong boys. Mouth shut, eyes straight ahead. I'm starting to think I will lose it to some grief I haven't expressed yet. Mildly worried about myself. But that's how it should be right?

That's my number one concern right now. I do not know a single soul in the entire state. It's gonna be a wild ride.

When I asked her why she wasn't speaking to me at all for like the third day on a row she finally spilled the beans.

All is good. I appreciate your concern. We are on speaking terms. I control the tempo. As far as other guys, I hope she gets 10 million dicks. I am in an EXTREMELY positive mindset. I was grieving and working as hard as possible to save it for two years. Nothing but sweet relief.

10 years. Alaska doesn't do long term alimony from what I have read. You can pay alimony while they are training to enter the work force (she has a trade school degree which she never put to use so no problem there) or short term alimony to get settled in a new place to live and find employment (I have heard it's like 6 months). PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.

We own the house, and 2 financed cars. Bank will let me assume the loan. I am willing to accept all debt in return for the house.

Very fair. I didn't mean it that way, I meant scorched earth in the manner of protecting myself and what mine.
