It makes me very sad. People don’t understand the danger.

I am so sorry this happened to you. It’s horrible.

True, true. I’ve seen small women best larger women and men alike in the dojo. Force equals acceleration times mass, not mass on its own. A quick reflex and good aim can overcome mere brute upper body strength. Plus, uhm, female lower body strength is not to be dismissed.

As a person still decades older, a person who did the black belt work, studied the languages, I can reinforce you: I am glad if I gave a few projects to the world instead of kids. I would not change any of it. Having children would have been bad for me. I knew this early in life, and I stuck to it. Now, haha, no one can make me do it :) Kids are amazing, parents astound me. But we still need people like us.

There is something to this idea, but the key material causes, I am convinced, lie in society’s pervasive, ambient campaigns to minimize the experiences of women at any age.

Yes, they do that! That way you can never turn them in. Next is they hit people and say, “that didn’t hurt.”

Thank you for the alternative statement, this makes sense

I am guessing the first. A real challenge — someone who talks like that, with such little imagination, does not know how to enjoy challenges, or even friendships where they are not the center. Too angry for challenge. Not the kinds we play chess with, nope

Yes, sperm has to copy, it doesn’t regenerate fresh. Each time it replicates, there is a chance for a mutation.

Yeah, FB colleagues post interesting links to science articles or poetry in other languages, people rant about issues that matter to them, people faraway let us see how their kids are growing...some people are quite thoughtful over time.

For me, it was daily music practice. I made music into my own happiness generator. I recommend some kind of art to channel the feelings and help you see clearly, feel a sense of purpose.

Then tomorrow or the next day, get out your pens: Make a list of all the conflicts or problems (I am channeling Dr. Ramani :). Doing this will help stop the ruminating about the “good beginning times.” Make a list of all the activities that somehow got curtailed because of this relationship, things you can do soon.

My life with stepfathers is different from yours, but there are overlaps, and I am rooting for you, and want to tell you something that helps me when I need to separate from a bad attachment: I think about a time before them, before I knew them, when I had a brave day, or a happy day. I think: I was happy before I let them in my head, I’ll Be happy again with them out of it.

I am sad the counting stopped at 40. It is worth it to keep adding the age groups, if you ask me. It is very worth it to be up here, well over that number, and single.

Another yes point: women in their thirties are usually in fact more fertile than teenagers
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy08/12/20 06:19 AM

Yes. Also, More birth defects are caused by sperm at 50 than eggs. This is because sperm has to replicate, with increasing mutations over time.

That is a great point. I never thought of this angle.

I either don’t have a dad, or have four dads, depending how you look at stepdads, adopted and biodads :) One was terrible, one was mixed (taught me some things, made our mom cry), one turned out to be awesome, and one is a mystery.

I’m sorry your sister pushed you into that. We want to trust our relatives and friends, but they do this.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy04/12/20 06:36 AM

yes! Good choice. I studied a somewhat less practical martial art, but I know what you mean. You realize in the dojo that in fact most men are not really stronger or bigger than all women. Some have upper body, but we can leverage center of gravity with quickness and win. Nothing like winning a match :)

It's more of a diaspora since the 1830s, but you have a scatter point in the Georgia/Alabama mountains, then families down the Gulf rivers one way, to Oklahoma and Arkansas the other way.

A footnote: once I went through a long period of rehab for a leg injury, and during it my now ex built up credit for being "the only one" around to do anything for me. He left me snacks and beverages each morning, came home after work . . . When, a few years later I was again injured, I insisted on having more people coming by, more people were around -- and he became increasingly sullen and angry. It seems that he had used the first situation to isolate me.

Colonialism, some say, a convergence of guns, disease, broken treaties. Also, they (matrilineal families or societies) are not all gone, they just get folded in. Since those events were not really so long ago in this country, maybe the current wave of patrilineal property forms will turn out to have been a blip
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy02/12/20 04:27 AM
33

This historical answer makes sense to me. I was raised in a family that still had a few lingering matriarchal practices from the way before times. It’s a long story, but I feel like the older generations assumed women’s rights to things likes property even when the law had not. Women inherited rights to places, and they could divorce and choose fathers and so on, it was normal. And I do think there was less of this fear

Yes: they get away with it because it takes a minute to ask how come they see the toxic before you do. He understands them a little too well, but we don’t see that at first.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy30/11/20 06:29 AM

Also. Do they bother to learn how to initiate in a way that would seduce those wives to want it more? Nevermind orgasms, I can do that myself -- if the other person is the one wanting more, why don't they work on ways to draw you in?

Well, as lament it is still a good question. I've lived in places and times when this style of male self-presentation was not a thing. I mean, I lived in countries in the 90s where the porn market had barely begun and where capitalism was not a thing, and you are not wrong to point to these structural factors imho.

Community theater, work, music classes, friend networks. Once, though, I met someone through a friend that she had met on OLD, and that was a disaster. Social context leads to accountability, and gives you chances to see how responsible they are.

Too many men behave "supportively" only so long as you remain the "daughter" with "potential." Once you attain real skills and authority, they undermine.

A long time ago I tried "It's just Lunch." They kept setting me up on evening cocktail dates. When I complained, the madams in charge chastised me with the argument that, "Well, you will lose out on a lot of guys, because THEY prefer evenings at the bar." My preferences did not matter to their calculus, clearly. Also, they matched me several times with men wearing shoe lifts. So I told them they ought to change their business name to "Just Drinks after Dark with a Midget," and cut off my members…

I have similar concerns, similar story...I have got it wrong before thinking amount of time alone was the key. I think more important is how they react to your boundaries, as they arise, each time. And in the process of expressing a boundary, do we learn that they also have boundaries? Does it feel that they also want to be known before risking intimacy? Do they also prefer small steps? Can they enjoy taking a step back, or do they always get irritated if they cannot push forward?

This article actually reads as naive and silly. Maybe it’s just me, but whenever I‘ve encountered the kind of person who aims to play this game, I can’t help it but experience a wave of bored irritation, sort of anti-attraction. Yes—in this country for a long time, women were not allowed to file and own patents. Female inventors, no matter how large or small the invention, had no choice but to file through their husbands, in the husband‘s name.

There is another reason for hope: there are not many women who combine all these traits either. If rare birds do flock together, those few men who fit your criteria are also going to prefer YOU. Reverse your thinking: instead of searching for the rare, know that it is searching for you. Do your beloved activities, and the people will make themselves known.

As a writer, I do not hate texting and want friends who also like writing. For a potential partner, sure, I would prefer to move to phone — but on my pace, which might take more than one or two texts. I give away more information when a person gets me on the phone. This is a risk, and thus I set a boundary. Also, I am vetting for patience and respect for ANY and ALL of my boundaries. If a stranger can’t wait a few days until I give consent for a phone call, the question arises: what other of my …

All usually true -- and I will add, though, that studying karate over the decades demonstrated to me that small people (men or women alike) can equalize by building speed, reflexes, and target accuracy. Force equals mass times acceleration. Being able to concentrate this force into the knuckles, correctly folded, means that a tiny person can knock the wind out of a larger oner. Aim to the knees, eyes, nose, windpipe

I am a professor at a large research university. I am small and can be very goofy. And yet, even before I was 30, still in grad school, I discovered that I intimidate people by being rigorous and alert. When I am not convinced, it is known. So I learned to harness the goofiness as a mitigating technique. In the classroom, it helps to go in order: strict and truthful first, humor once you are in charge. Start Severus Snape, end McDoneagle. But what helps most against interruptions and mansplainin…
