Feeling hopelessDon't move out of the house. Women often think they call the shots when it's divorce-time, usually because we 'don't want to make things ugly'. You don't have the gift of hindsight yet, but many here do. You need to get on top of this, and yes she'll say you're the bad guy. Let her take the kids, all of them if she wants, it's very temporary anyway. Document everything, and in the end you'll come out of this in a much better situation. And don't apologize, it's ok to be mad and tell her to go to… | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/01/26 03:27 PM
The 'after-divorce' traplol, good advice. I generally just say my marriage 'ran it's course', and leave it at that. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/01/26 11:10 PM
Ex wants to meet upYou're past the emotional side of everything and in a good headspace because you got away from that situation, and you're considering returning to it? This is like an alcoholic feeling great after a few months of sobriety, and then thinks he can have a drink. Reeling you back in is her backup if things aren't as rosy as she thought it would be. Trust me, don't do it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/01/26 07:53 PM

Went to my first consultation with a lawyer. I’m having a hard time accepting the potential amount I would need to pay. How do I get through this?Don't be too amicable. It doesn't sound like she is. This is going to affect you the rest of your life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/07/25 03:37 AM
I think I’m doneOne thing I've learned is that you cannot control how someone else behaves. And that goes for our kids too. Be the best you, show them respect, be patient and non-confrontational. If that isn't enough, leave them be. Time has a way of ironing these things out. If you were fair with them, they'll eventually see it. If your ex is manipulating them, they'll eventually see that too. What you DON'T want to do is grovel or bargain for their attention. It'll be seen as weak and will likely just fuel th… | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/01/24 09:31 PM
Why don't fathers tell sons not to get married?it really takes two to fuck up a marriage properly. You don't really believe this do you? | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/09/23 11:24 PM
Has my divorce gone through? We handled the divorce ourselves also and I discovered that without an attorney in the mix, the judge would simply sign off on the divorce and it would be filed away. I was divorced for about a month or 2 before I called and checked. | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/08/23 08:43 PM
When a woman say she was/is in an abusive relationship or marriage, Abusive is a Code word for women.I like to think that women who do this are in the minority, but I was called out for being 'verbally abusive' when I said that I thought Facebook was a huge waste of time. And of course her FB group of 'abused' women agreed. | /r/Divorce_Men | 05/09/22 03:22 PM
Asshole husbands are better than decent family manIt took me a while to realize that all women don't all share the messed-up programming of my ex. The only person I was hurting was myself when I would seek my 'revenge' on an entire gender because I made a poor choice. Don't be foolish enough to allow one woman to ruin all your potential to enjoy life. | /r/Divorce_Men | 16/07/22 03:03 AM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneyBless your heart. Take your meds, adhere to your restraining order, and stay away from firearms. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/07/22 03:09 AM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneyhow do you know if you got a great deal? We are all waiting on here for your detailed and expert analysis Well, I got to keep my house, got full custody of both kids, didn't pay her a dime, and simply erased her from my life. I consider that a good deal. Now, go troll elsewhere. | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/07/22 03:03 AM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneylol. Are you on drugs? At least you're not freaking out, right? | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/22 11:46 PM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneyThank you. The divorce was years ago and laws are written in English, it's not rocket science. Maybe if I knew what specifically you're freaking out about I'd have a better answer. I can't speak to non-equitable distribution states, but here courts really only care about the kids, and that they're being cared for properly. If the husband/wife mutually agree on how to split their personal assets, a judge won't intervene (but a lawyer would). It was an amicable split and we're on good terms to thi… | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/22 10:01 PM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneyNot true at all, on any point. You must be a lawyer. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/22 08:06 PM
Wife says she doesn’t want my moneyMy ex didn't want any money either. I assumed most of the debt and she considered that fair. The judge didn't care a bit about that, only that agreements were made to take care of our children, which was 50/50 all costs, no child support was set. I would assume all medical costs and insurance. We handled the divorce ourselves, no lawyers. If lawyers get involved she will be persuaded to go for all she can, and things will somehow start getting ugly. I got divorced for $300 + court costs after a … | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/22 02:58 PM
Cheaper to keep her?Peace of mind is worth a lot. I was pretty concerned about my financial fallout too, but now that it's all over and done, there's no amount of money you could give me to get me back in that situation. | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/07/22 05:31 PM
I gotta ask, does it ever get better? The hate for your ex wife? Not for me. Been divorced over 4 years now and I feel physically ill when I think of times I was intimate with her, and that I tried to treat her as an adult. The level of foolishness I feel for making such an abhorrent choice for a partner rocks me to my core, and makes me question my own skills of judgement, to the point I'm terrified of dating. The worst is that I wasted 20 precious years with someone who never had goals greater than being a party-whore, stoner, and a drunk. I was repeatedly … | /r/Divorce_Men | 04/06/22 07:08 PM
"We don't miss our ex's, we miss what should have been."Same here, it would never have worked and I should have never been there. What hurts is the time we wasted. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/07/21 01:07 PM
Men Please Help! You know what you need to do, you'll never be happy in this arrangement. 2 1/2 years is nothing. Accept your responsibilities regarding your child, but get out of that marriage now. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/04/21 03:45 PM
Can’t believe I used to love this womanIt's likely they'll throw all their support behind her because she's family. You wanted a wife, not a project. It's been my experience that people don't really ever change. Women like her need a punching bag, with you not around anymore someone else will receive her wrath. I actually got back with my ex for a while because I missed being around my son. Big mistake. Your son will get older and will probably choose to live with you anyway, both of ours chose to live with me. Once our youngest is g… | /r/Divorce_Men | 25/04/21 03:08 PM
Can’t believe I used to love this womanExact same boat man, except for me it was 20 years and we had 2 sons. My advice is to just stay the course. Her chaotic ways will eventually be apparent to everyone and you won't be in the picture then to take the blame. My ex somehow decided everyone, and I do mean everyone, was a narcissist and out to get her. When she pushed them all away I was the only one left to take all of her anger and abuse. You may want to record her calls to you, even if not admissible in court, they're excellent proo… | /r/Divorce_Men | 25/04/21 02:29 PM
The ConundrumFor me it's not her I miss. Not really even once. It's all the years (21 years!) I wasted that hurt. All those years I knew she wasn't the one. Years dragged by but I 'upheld my vows' and gave it my best to tiptoe around her insanity. The only option is to move on. I would welcome a loving relationship with someone, but I don't have the energy or passion for it. | /r/Divorce_Men | 24/12/20 07:52 PM
Getting divorced...healthy tips?Your head sounds like it's in the right place. I would recommend maintaining a very civil and friendly relationship. If you can both come to terms regarding the children and everything, lawyers aren't necessary, my ex and I handled it and it basically cost nothing. Remember, getting divorced is hard, being divorced is easy. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/08/20 06:37 PM
