I have had both medicated and unmedicated labors, and the thing that works best for me is vocalization, but LOW sounds... almost like a low growling or humming (loud and constant, but as deep of a tone as possible), and try to keep your throat and neck relaxed and breathe while you're doing it. Breath holding and silence, or higher pitched vocalization, increase my pain by a lot. The low humming is magical for me.

I don't work for pay outside the home; our plan has always been to have a large family and have me stay home full time, which was a straightforward decision because my education and work skills are such that I would pay much more for daycare than I would make at a job (I could probably make just upwards of minimum wage, even had I not had the employment gap created by staying home for years). We do have a bunch of kids, though, and I'm the one who takes care of all of their things, too. My husba…

I could have written your post. Catholic/NFP/obesity/sleep apnea/won't follow through on helping with things. Except this was me about 15 years ago. You've already gotten tons of good responses in this thread, and you should take them to heart. I just want to add that I tried everything you tried (even down to the x mins a day of doing directed tasks) and none of it helped. The only thing that helped was taking responsibility for the things I wanted done (so, all the household tasks, plus the fi…

I think the responses you've gotten are right on, but I want to draw attention to the fact that, per your post, the resentment, superiority, disrespect and lack of deference on your part was happening before the drinking event. It seems there is a lot of focus here (and in the replies) on how you reacted to that specific event and how it might be related to your own recovery, but I wonder if that focus is misplaced. The incident looks like a trigger at first glance, but what if instead, it was t…

I can empathize: my husband is gone from early morning until 8pm and he's exhausted and mentally checked out when he gets home to do the late dinner/kid time thing with our brood. My love language is also quality time, and I'd love nothing more than to sit and talk and spend time together, but our time has to be brief or the resulting sleep deprivation is brutal for both of us (him especially). Honestly, what has helped the MOST in terms of the connection between us is making sex the priority fo…

In regards to purposely increasing one's own S/RMV, I see what you're saying there. You assume the husband's behavior after this improvement stays the same, but if the woman receives more love/admiration from her own husband due to these improvements, her satisfaction in the relationship may increase, and she has less motivation to branch swing, despite having more options due to her S/RMV increase. Also, the husband may think, "I must be high value, or I wouldn't have merited such a high value …

Getting back to running--beyond grateful that I have a body capable of adapting to exertion after many months off! For a husband who wakes me up early in the morning so we can be intimate before he has to go to work (and who doesn't mind giving up some sleep for it) For a nice warm house during some crazy storms we've had lately

Good: Got some very nice unsolicited comments during a BJ about what a good wife I was and how I made him "feel like a king." I feel like this translates to +100 RPW points :) I'm going to ride high on that for a long time. Hopefully it spurs me towards even more of the same. Bad: Was kind of depressed for no reason this week (damn hormones) and didn't do a very good job being sweetness and light. We had some home repair stresses which I had some anxiety about, and had to have him calm me down. …

Oh man, I had to learn all of it! I was raised doing pretty much zero for myself, so I had to read a bunch of books about housecleaning, cooking, and home organization/time management. A few random good ones, from memory: Home Comforts - Cheryl Mendelson (a little... ambitious, but a good reference) Martha Stewart's Homekeeping Handbook Happy Housewives - Darla Shine (she can be a bit eye-roll-y and hard to take, but for some reason, this book hits me in the right spot) Is There Life After House…

My husband works very long hours, so the majority of the tasks fall to me out of practicality. He works, takes care of scheduling appointments and making phone calls (he can do this from work, plus, I have a phone phobia), picking up takeout and other errands that may need to be done on his way home. He fixes any technology issues at home with our phones/computers/TVs, etc. He also does our taxes and tax planning. He takes the kids with him (minus the nursing baby) when he does errands on the we…

A couple of things: I think different personality types approach and experience marriage itself differently. For me, as an introvert with control issues and lacking sentimentality, merging my life with someone else is automatically challenging (and my husband is extremely easy to get along with). Good, and often amazing, but challenging (like parenting, actually). When I have any other stresses in my life, it only magnifies these challenges. Even if everything is going really well in our marriag…

Tell her directly that her comments and "advice" are upsetting to you (disclosure of emotion) and you don't want to discuss the topic with her anymore (statement of preference). If she pushes despite that, she's not very good friend material no matter how much you like her. With few exceptions, women are notorious for encouraging their friends' dissatisfaction in their relationships. I think it's supposed to come off as "support" (fanning the flames of whatever feeling is expressed), and I also …

There is a natural attraction between man and woman, and where there is attraction, where there is desire, there is power. A power that lies particularly with women, for they control the situation. The controlling person is always the one who can say the decisive yes or no; and that is the woman. Such a perfect description of women as the gatekeepers of sex, and a good refutation of the feminist idea that men hold all the power.

I have an anxiety disorder, and things got a lot better between us on this issue when I started apologizing (even though I was still mid-freakout) and acknowledging that it WAS an overreaction on my part (by definition, these panic patterns are out of proportion to the event) and unfair to direct it at him. Now I always default to something like, "I'm having a really hard time right now--I'm sorry for taking it out on you. Thank you for bearing with my craziness!" It helps, as long as you don't …

In my particular situation, I have a higher SMV than my husband does, and the men I'm talking about are generally at or above my SMV. We do have children, along with religious beliefs that would preclude remarriage after divorce, so I'm not looking to move on. Realistically speaking, I'm post-wall and my SMV is declining, while my husband's is likely to keep increasing due to professional accomplishments. He also has a lot more he can do to improve his SMV in terms of physical improvements than …

Can we talk about what to do (mentally) to combat these types of thoughts when your spouse or partner does not actually have "more than enough going for him"... When the attention you get is coming from men with a much higher SMV? Understanding hypergamy has helped me see what's happening when I get "hooked" on such attention from high SMV men, but I still struggle with willing away those feelings when my partner is pretty low SMV in comparison. Any tips?

Good: Had several instances where I just said "ok" to something my husband wanted done a certain way instead of nitpicking and arguing endlessly about why my way was better. I noticed a corresponding increase in his take-charge-ness over the course of the week, too. Made it a point not to be bitchy when I wanted to be. At one point during sex, my husband stopped and said, "this, us, right now--this is the woman I wanted to marry." I haven't heard him say anything like that, ever. Bad: Reining in…

I'm not sure I understand why you disliking the bride is relevant to your jealousy over him dancing with a bridesmaid. Does your boyfriend work with any women? Do you feel anxious about his interactions with them? I have known a few men with girlfriends or wives who have allowed their jealousy to surface and put unreasonable demands on their men. They have all broken up. You can't control that you feel jealous and anxious over this, but you've absolutely got to suck it up, or your boyfriend is g…

I'm new here, too. I read FW many years ago before getting married and it resonated with me, but I stopped trying to put it into practice and spent the majority of my marriage being an overbearing bitch. Things are better, but not perfect, and I'm excited to go back to this material for the first time in about 13 years and see it with new eyes!
