I used to be obese so I can answer. Food to me was like a competition to eat as much as I could, eating the most delicious foods I could. I eas always snacking and even for breakfast, lunch and dinner eating really unhealthy. Soda, ice cream, pudding, mini Muffins, you name it.

I can't blame the individual anymore when our whole food culture is like this, since we're at 42% obesity - the highest in the 1st world. Edit:Yeah, most people think that cardio and lifting sucks, however you don't have to do those to not be obese. Edit 2: Quitting sugar also does suck. Stuff is addictive...and I read somewhere that junk food has been engineered to be addictive.

It is really hard. I used to be obese as a teen, that's kinda why I'm mad a system sets people up for failure. Some quick and dirty tips: Cut out fried food, added fats, eat whole grains, switch ground beef for turkey (and lean meats in general), cut out sugar except for fruits, if you drink soda then switch to diet soda. Sauces and spices are your friend. Also cardio. That's just what I used to drop 45lbs in less than a year. Sugar is addictive imo. Then you can reintroduce foods as you get to …

I dont agree with that at all. Most people aren't athletes with tons of muscle. Even I have q decent amount of muscle on, a small amount if belly fat (have to flex to see abs), and yet I'm in the normal weight category for my height/weight.

It's greed to be honest. Nothing else. Greed and corporate brainwashing because we trusted our leaders and health experts (Fruit Loops has 12 essential vitamins and minerals! Part of a complete breakfast.) Also with painkillers, pharmaceutical reps sold them as basically non addictive, which is crazy. It is depressing though. We could be awesome. It's an uphill battle in this country to stay fit, in my opinion. Pizza is a lot of peoples dinners. Sugar is in so many things. Kids are eating pop tarts for breakfast instead of oats or eggs. It's a massive culture where 80% I would say of the food is unhealthy garbage. Edit: I'm pretty fit but I used to be obese so I have to watch my calories and food quality constantly.

Counterpoint: you can be both self improving and validation seeking. You could have been down in the shit and realize just how much you need to get out of it. A lot of successful people talk about having low confidence or that "never enough" attitude that propels them forward. Being strong is one thing, as well as holding your own. UFC fighters wouldn't be a good representation of what the general population is as a lot are thugs. Most girls don't really care that much. I bet warrior prowess is more praised in some countries than others though. At one point in England, the Calf muscle was considered the most attractive. Heck yeah, keep at it. It's a lifestyle change but you can do it. I recommend changing diet more than absolutely anything. AthleanX has a good diet routine that is realistic and not too insane. Whole foods though are probably the best bet for losing fat, imo, and not eating refined sugar. There's a reason most often he country is overweight: because people think it's okay to eat and also feed kids garbage, like Pop Tarts for breakfast.

I agree that it does have a lot of detrimental effects. I just wanted tot all about my frustration with it here. I read a Cornell study someone posted about how obesity drives up the process of healthcare by 29%, which is ludicrous. Also the fact that it leads to the number one killers of Americans, Heart Disease and Diabetes, is just tragic. There has to be another way.
