There’s pros and cons to each gender but one of the pros of being a man is that our attractiveness is something we generally have more agency in. Be competent, confident, strong. These are all attributes you can improve/choose.

I think a big contributor to men not seeking higher education is the general narrative in the media and enetertainment that men/boys are stupid and not academic.

It’s weird cause I think the expectation that men pay for all dates is specific to the US. I don’t think that culture exists in Europe and it doesn’t in Australia (to the extent it seems to in America)

I think evidence reveals that laissez-faire capitalism benefits a small few and hurts a vast majority. For essential services people need significant protections from a system that left unchecked is brutalist and exploitative. Lots of things should not have a commercial imperative else you encourage negative outcomes. Eg law enforcement/penal services, medical services, roads, education. Pooling society’s resources and risk is critical in many markets.

I consider myself a leftist. To me that means we need strong legislative controls on markets (especially essential services/products) and fewer social controls on people for things they can’t control. Give people enough social and economic agency to reach their potential. Right now the left has lots of anti men advocates but the right also wants to put more men in prison and living in poverty.

Less agency in most things. Fewer women can fall as low as men but also fewer can reach as high. It comes with pros and cons but having more agency vs more societal protection is what works for me.

Important to differentiate between ‘not ashamed’ and ‘proud’. People should feel neither pride nor shame for things about themselves that they have no control over.

Double standards aren’t ok so why does this one exist? Part of it is that women’s sexuality/desire has only recently been permitted and acknowledged so lots of acts of overt sexuality are seen as empowering or progressive. Men’s desire has been the opposite. I suppose time and conversations like this will ultimately create new norms that aren’t so dependent on gender. The real question is, all things being equal, what is the right thing to do? Is it ok to take a PG photo of a celebrity or sports…

My experience is that women only ever showed any interest in me only after I had made it clear I was interested in them first. Afterwards I asked girlfriends when they first started to think of me as a potential partner and they all answered it was only after I had initiated. I get the impression you probably lack confidence and self esteem in most areas of your life. Confidence comes from the knowledge you can be successful in your chosen ambitions, the way to achieve confidence is by building …

It's equally likely that people that get married later are more likely to be people attracted and used to their own independence and find marriage harder. Sometimes this sub is beyond stupid.

Except context is everything and the context here is that there has been generations and a long history of powerful men harassing less powerful women. Somethings are but not everything is as simple as trading pronouns because it ignores our history and lived experiences. In saying all that: man, woman, gay or straight, it's really not a good idea to boast about ogling others and commenting on their bodies.

The article talks about higher rates of anal cancer amongst gay men. They also don't mention the lower rates of cervical cancer amongst lesbians. The article is clearly anti LGBTIQ

How can I hold a screening of this film in Brisbane Australia? Or even just see it? I'm part of a group of left leaning gender activists and I'd like the opportunity for this film to be a catalyst for some discussion and maybe a way of trying bridge some devide between moderate MRAs and moderate feminists. Tldr I'd like to see this movie and live in Australia where TUGG doesn't operate.
/r/MensRights01/11/16 07:43 PM

If you're approaching that many people with no results then you're probably doing it badly. What is your goal in all of this? Just trying to rack up xp so you can level up in a game that doesnt exist. First rule of being attractive is dont appear desperate.

I lean left and hate conservative politics. I consider the issues that interest MRA's to be very progressive and quite a modern and radical way of thinking about gender roles and manhood in general.
/r/MensRights14/06/14 12:25 PM

really!? REALLY?!? c'mon! most mens issues are not zero sum games. heres a list: Homelessness, incarceration rates, suicide rates, drug dependency, false rape accusations, circumcision. There are more but none of those require women to be worse off for us to fix them and main stream feminism does not work against fixing those issues (just mostly ignores them).

I think you have a narrow view of MR if you think it exists solely in opposition to feminism. Its really sad that we cant just talk about mens issues without framing it through a prism of feminism

The whole point of any type of insurance is that the people who dont use it subsidize the people who do. The young pay higher premiums than their usage would warrent, to subsidize the elderly who use far more services. Its called shared risk and when it comes to health care the US is really about as backwards as it gets.

Feminism teaches women that the system is gamed against them and no matter how talented or hard they try there are things out of their control that will hold them back. This attitude is really dangerous for girls as it provides excuses for failure and ultimately, negatively impacts on effort.

Im an MRA and im also losing my shit. It is embarrassing as an Australian that our govt can only find one woman worthy of their cabinet out of a total of more than 120 in their caucus. OF course their shouldn't be quotas and of course the best people should be appointed regardless of gender... doesn't make it any less embarrassing.

Parenting payments should be a workplace entitlement, like sick pay and long service leave. It should be gender neutral so either parent can receive it.
/r/MensRights22/08/13 12:23 AM

The policy is funded by a 1.5% levy on the 3000 largest businesses. I agree that being a parent shouldnt be an obstacle to furthering or reaping the benefits of a career. Society needs people having children and shouldnt puunsih them for doing so. Where this policy fails is that it only provides this to women. If it were gender neutral and one of the parents (male or female) could get the payment then it might enable men to take a leading role in the early stages of child raising.

Who actually accused him of sexism?? Is the paper reporting on its own headline? Whether the reporter was male or female Abbot was being a typical condescending prick. Can't wait for him to fuck off back to the dark ages where his world view was formed.

Thats not the whole story. The Prime Minister has been receiving some pretty crazy attacks that are gender based. The opposition had a fund rasier where on the mock menu that decided to have "Kentucky Fried PM, Small tits, huge thighs and a big red box." Then today a radio jock that was interviewing her asked if her partner was closeted gay. None of these things would have happened if she was a bloke. Regardless, this shouldnt be used as opportunity to solely ignore issues effecting men.

There's something very wrong when people won't read something because of the gender of the author. I hope the publishers are wrong in that hypothesis but regardless they shouldn't pander to it. MRAs should get behind the idea that people shouldn't be asked to hide their gender or accept it when people ask them to
/r/MensRights22/05/13 12:52 PM
5

If it's true that her publisher asked her to hide the fact she was a female because they assumed boys wouldn't read a novel written by a woman then that is despicable and we should lobby against it. Its insulting and dangerous to boys to perpetuate a narrative that they should only read male authors.

I was brought up never even entertaining the notion that women were in anyway inferior or less capable at anything. Then one day my mother told me I was living in a revenge generation and that I should expect to be persecuted because of the wrongs done to women in the past. She didnt agree with it and neither do I.

Get used to asking for what you want in life. You have to unlearn shyness with practice. Join a toastmasters club or something. With regards to this guy he's already given you the green light and is probably just worried hes confused the signs as your half his age. If all you want is sex then send him a text msg or email saying as much. When I go out with female friends im always shocked when they cant ask a guy for his number or instigate anything with someone they really like. When I eventuall…

Don't listen to people that tell you to cut her off your insurance and become malicious. Seek legal advice regarding access to your children but expect things to be terrible emotionally for at least six months. Take solace in the fact that people all over the world are going through similar situations and you will come through this. I empathize with your pain.

I dont understand why seeing porn actors as sexual objects is considered wrong to begin with?? The viewer is given nothing else with which to judge these people. Why is being objectified the ultimate sin and of course models and anyone working in an industry based purely on appearance will be judged on their superficialities. A cat walk model is simply a walking mannequin.

Actual answers. Im always confused by hetro guys who complain that women are too promiscuous. While being single surely it's best if both genders have the same attitude to hooking up.

Men like to chase and we instinctively value things less that come easily. We're just cave people living in condos and our cave people instincts are still our biggest driving force.
/r/MensRights28/01/13 11:38 PM

Why would hookup culture lead to lonely women? Women should be encouraged to be as promiscuous as their biology tells them. Why wouldnt us hetro men want women to be more sexually available?

yeah of course, day in court and all that.. but what if 30% of all men committed a rape? would we as men as a whole, then be more responsible somehow? What about 50%? whats the line where we can just say its rapists and not some underlying problem with men? To clarify, I know there isnt an underlying problem with men as a whole and of course im not suggesting that.
/r/MensRights27/01/13 09:51 AM

I dont know what my guess would be but im curious what people think is an "acceptable" percentage so as not to malign all men in general. eg. if 2% of all men will commit a rape in their lives is that few enough that we can dismiss them as an anomaly. What about 5%? 10%? 25%?

The stats are probably somewhere closer to 25%. The below article is a study that showed that 20% of all people accused of rape were proven to be not guilty by dna evidence. Another 20% was inconclusive and 60% of the accused were proven guilty by dna evidence. This does not prove that the accusers weren't raped simply that the accused were often proven to be innocent. Every year since 1989, in about 25 percent of the sexual assault cases referred to the FBI where results could be obtained (prim…
