Petitioning to lower child supportWhat state are you in? | /r/Divorce_Men | 07/09/22 08:37 PM
Petitioning to lower child supportYes | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/22 07:31 PM
Petitioning to lower child supportYup. It's depressing. I came at this from the point of view that I was helping my kids transition to two homes at the start of COVID when their life was already messed up. And now I'm stuck deep down in a hole. Feels like an unfixable situation. I'm trying to negotiate her down to me paying a few hundred a month per child. But what incentive does she have when she getting much more right now? A reasonable human being wouldn't want to bankrupt the other parent to their children but I know how tha… | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/22 07:30 PM
Petitioning to lower child supportYes. That's apparently the standard in my state | /r/Divorce_Men | 02/09/22 07:29 PM
Child Support QuestionSo, my lawyer and I agree that she is upset that she didn't get more in the division of assets. Over the course of a year, the number solidly dropped. At first she thought she was getting six figures, then mid five figures, now less. At one point they even asked me to give her cash out of my IRA AND pay the taxes she would owe on it because she didn't want to go the QDRO route! Lots of disappointment for her so I understand her frustration. But that is what happens when you let dollar signs clou… | /r/Divorce_Men | 12/03/22 04:14 PM
Child Support QuestionWhat kills me is that its called "child support" but there is absolutely no consideration for the child on the other side. It's all about how much money can possibly be extracted. Who cares if I can no longer afford to contribute to their 529s and pay more than my share of their activities. If this goes through, the first thing to go is the 529 contributions. And every expense will be split 50/50. She may end up losing in the end, as will the kids. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/03/22 05:08 PM
Child Support QuestionYep same here. She got the house in my case and I still ended up owing 50k out of my retirement. My only saving grace was that I convinced her to contribute to her company match (full 9% match!!) years ago. Otherwise I'm sure I would have owed her 150-200k. Nevermind I also paid for most expenses out of my paycheck during the marriage. I was such an idiot, ha. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/03/22 03:25 PM
Child Support QuestionYeah, I hear so many stories about couples who part amicably and have common sense when it comes to these kinds of things. Why couldn't I have married one of those types of people??!? | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/03/22 02:30 PM
Question about date of separationShe's not contesting the date but instead saying she wants to calculate assets based on current? Can she do that? I have all kinds of documentation to back up when we separated. I just don't want to have to start over again, even if the new date may benefit me a little. | /r/Divorce_Men | 13/12/21 01:27 PM
Question about date of separationI guess extortion is the wrong word maybe. But she knows I'm right and is threatening to change the date unless I agree to her inflated numbers. It's pretty aggravating that someone can operate like that. Thanks for your advice. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/12/21 04:53 PM
Question about date of separationIt was never completed, at least from the asset division perspective. | /r/Divorce_Men | 11/12/21 01:45 PM
Question about distribution of financesThat's a good point, I have a Roth as well. Really don't want to touch it though. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/12/21 07:02 PM
Question about distribution of financesThanks. We are at the stage where all assets have been figured out and I'll owe her x amount. She kept the house, which greatly reduced what I owed her. But I am paying the final amount out of my IRA. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/12/21 05:34 PM
Question about distribution of financesThanks. I think she wants the cash payout and not the IRA. I thought maybe I'd be responsible for the taxes given she isn't required to take the assets into her IRA. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/12/21 04:00 PM
"Happy Wife Happy Life"I think the "Happy Wife Happy Life" thing is true. Both spouses need to be happy for it to work. The problem is when a spouse relies on external factors for their happiness. They look to their spouse, friends, family, materialistic possessions for happiness. It will never really happen unless it comes from within. So when they are unhappy, they blame it on whatever is the biggest factor in their life. Usually their spouse. That is the number one thing for a successful relationship is to find som… | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/06/21 11:56 AM
Thought you might get a kick out of this.Yes, this times 100. I was threatened that every little thing she perceived as me doing wrong was proof that the judge wouldn't grant me equal custody. And, in my mentally state back then in mediation, I bought it. Dumb mistake that I regret every day. At the same time it might have worked for her. | /r/Divorce_Men | 17/06/21 02:43 AM
Advice for an escape planDon't do it. Save up in a regular savings account if you need to. It's a good idea anyways to have an emergency fund. You will lose have of it but it's better than getting caught trying to hide money. That wouldn't end well. | /r/Divorce_Men | 10/06/21 12:45 AM
Lessons Learned?Don't ever, ever ignore red flags. Don't get married until you've been together for at least five years and living together for a good part of that. Don't stay with someone who either won't fight fair or won't ever say they are sorry. In my case, I could never get a word in edgewise and was talked over me constantly. Should have been a sign. Discuss a prenup if you are coming in with significant assets. Probably a red flag if she isn't at least willing to discuss it. Don't get married. I just do… | /r/Divorce_Men | 09/06/21 05:21 PM
Divorce on the wayI'll just add that it's good you are doing this now when your daughter is 1. She won't remember the time you were married and the fights. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/06/21 01:19 AM
Mediation set for Mid February... need some help! You will probably be able to claim half the house equity and that will be great. I'm in a similar but worse situation with an ex who is threatening to break mediation and litigate because she feels she is not getting enough of my money even though she's getting what she is owed (and it's a lot!). Money really seems to bring out the true, awful character in some people. I try to remind myself it's just money. Also, I'd try to be as emotionless when it comes to mediation. Put aside the cheating an… | /r/Divorce_Men | 29/12/20 01:35 PM
