Men who feel the divorce came out of the blue, what kind of conversation do you wish your wife had with you and how far in advance do you wish she’d had it?We had just celebrated our 20th anniversary 3 months earlier. That would have been a great time to sit me down and say something along the lines of I love you but I'm concerned about the future of our marriage. Can we talk calmly about some things? Nope just sat on it, then cheated, then did something so ridiculously stupid (hard to believe it wasn't preconceived) that set me off, then proceeded to blame me for getting upset and apply that to a larger "anger" issue. | /r/Divorce_Men | 28/07/26 07:52 PM
Can anyone else here relate to this?I hear you. If I try to think of something comparable that had cultural appeal I immediately think of Henry Miller but he was almost a century ago in | /r/Divorce_Men | 06/04/26 02:29 AM
Can anyone else here relate to this?I happened to listen to that book back about 15 years ago and something I mentioned to the therapist I was seeing at the time was "Imagine if the same book was written by a man". It would have never been published and if it had it would have been considered vile and misogynistic. | /r/Divorce_Men | 01/04/26 06:08 PM
I've come to the realization that marriage and divorce are all about the woman in life and in courts.Perimenopause. Mine didn't become a monster but she definitely became more cold and distant. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/03/26 10:06 PM
I've come to the realization that marriage and divorce are all about the woman in life and in courts.Exactly. I put the $100K down payment on the house and over the next 15 years made every single mortgage payment, now here we are putting the house up for sale (I can't afford to buy her out) and splitting the pay out 50/50. Now ladies, reverse those roles and see if you feel that feels equitable. Oh and she makes more money than me. | /r/Divorce_Men | 19/03/26 09:14 PM
Social media has destroyed everything in this worldWhen mt STBXW started pushing for marriage I told her I didn't believe in it because people just leave when they don't feel like doing it anymore. I gave in because I loved her and wanted to make her happy. 23 years later look who's leaving because YOLO. | /r/Divorce_Men | 18/02/26 10:57 PM
The 'after-divorce' trapI tried to quit drinking for years during the 25 yrs I was married ( we drank every night together). Then when we separated I just stopped cold turkey. It was almost like the devastation was so extreme that my brain/body knew that no amount of booze would kill the pain. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/01/26 09:59 PM
How do you ban the thought of Su1cide as an easy way out of the nightmare? One of the things that pulls me back from the edge is simply the way suicide is perceived now a days. 20 plus years ago if you killed yourself people had a certain amount of sympathy and even guilt. "how did we not see this coming?" Why didn't I reach out more?". Today suicide is widely viewed as a weak cowards way out. In addition there is the fact that your ex and her friends and family will view it as validation that she made the right choice leaving someone so weak and unstable. | /r/Divorce_Men | 08/01/26 08:21 PM
Struggling with divorce, I want to kill myselfI'm 56 and my wife of 20 years told me two days before xmas she wants a divorce. You are YOUNG. I know it doesn't seem like it but you are in the prime of your life. Don't give up. | /r/Divorce_Men | 31/12/25 10:36 PM
